Now that the tickets have landed, I thought it would be good to start a new thread - separate from the Portrush Open ticket ballot one. Mainly for people to post tips for others - like good locations on the course, merch bargains(long shot!), tented village attractions, park n ride experience, etc. I'm going on the Friday with my son and daughter.

there was a similar thread in 2019 with some great info.

Is the park and ride included with your ticket?

No, you need to book the park and ride. You should have gotten an email from them with details of how to book.

You get a separate pass for the park and ride

I only booked parking last week. It was £17 and yes the parking pass gets added to your Open Tickets app. I think they said first bus to the course was 5:00 or 5:30.

Parking Passes for the campsite arrived yesterday, better not lose them now. Anyone any recommendations for a food stop on way up, probably between newry/Belfast? I've started prepping stuff to put away now

Did they come in the post Mushy or in an email?

By post for me, but I only booked when booking the camping, so it's for that car park only and not for regular park and ride

You booked the carparking that is available with the campsite? Same as me so. I didn't expect anything in the post. I presumed we'd just print the pass from an email

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,122 ✭✭✭✭Mushy

Yeah when booking the camping there was option for parking so took that. Also wasn't expecting anything but it showed up yesterday. Comes from an address with Seamos House on it, it's legit if it shows up

Where is the park and ride located?

Not sure on the exact location but it was about 15-20 min bus ride from the course last time. It was well sign posted too. Hoping for the same this year.

I have tickets for Sunday and am considering driving up and back from South Dublin on the day. Am I mad?

Approx 3 hour drive plus park and ride which will probably take another hour with queuing etc, 10ish hours on the course and the same travel back.

I think I might be pushing it but the guy I am going with has 2 young children and doesn't fancy an overnight.

Do you think it's doable with a couple of rest stops on the drive or is it too much in one day?

I did it in 2019 from North County Dublin with 2 young kids. Think it was about 2.5 hr drive. No real queue either end for the park and ride. Stopped once on the way back for coffee / food. You’d be fairly tired by the end of the day but still worth it. Doing it again this year. It was the Friday for us in 2019 and same for this year. Think we got on the road around 5:00am.

Anyone go to practice days last time out? Any feedback...would be going with young kids

I have 2 tickets for the Thursday purchased from the resale platform which I no longer need. I can't relist them on the resale platform if they were purchased through it (rather than the initial ballot). Any suggestions on a good place to go to find a new home for them?

I went all week in 2017, practice days were great, had 3 girls up at it, the 15 year old went all week, had a ball, selfies all week with players (mon to wed only) and celebs, took 2others aged 9&10 to just one practice day which they enjoyed, a few things for them in tented village etc, food in the Ramore after and an ice cream . They two younger ones are now golfers and going all week this time

I've 2 tickets to Wednesday & 4 for Thursday. So bringing the family up. We've an AirBNB booked near some friends about an hour away (Moneymore) - for the Wednesday herself is dropping myself & son up - how close will we be able to get or where should we go for the park & ride??? will we have to pre-pay for this?

Thursday all of us are attending - so definitely Park & Ride - advice pre-pay or just show up & pay on the day?

Really looking forward to this now…

for park and ride you have to prepay

Getting very excited now, on a few days off now then start the packing up for this. Think we're heading up early Friday so not caught in m50 traffic, can watch end of the days golf there in campsite/head into Portrush for it.

Folks just on the practice days, is it all very casual so you can get lucky or not as to when players are out and about, or is there any sort of timetable for when players will be on the course?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 423 ✭✭Innish_Rebel

Thanks - I've booked Thursday. After looking at Wednesday I might just get lift to Coleraine & get the bus from there - running every 5 minutes for the duration of the open…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 869 ✭✭✭IrishOwl...

I was there in 2019 and did the exact same. We stayed close to Coleraine. The bus also goes through Portstewart if that suits better.

I don’t think the Park n Ride locations have been announced yet (though haven’t looked too hard) but assuming they are the same as 2019, then definitely on the Wed head to the Portstewart P&R, it was so quiet the last time, nearly more buses than people…

It was situated at the NW 200 starting grid, a mere 5 min bus ride to Portrush. If u google Millbank Drive in Portstewart you can get both dropped off there and park there as well for free the next day (where the road meets the A2)

In 2019 this area was totally quiet. Your wife can enjoy a great day in Portstewart, a really fantastic beach for a walk, beautiful Cliff walk back into town, some really good restaurants and bistros and if she wants to shop then Coleraine has an ok town centre for shops, only 3 miles away.

You will be on a quiet route from Moneymore, thru Garvagh to Coleraine, you can avoid the main P&R for all the vehicles coming North from Belfast and Dublin direction. When you reach edge of Coleraine turn left thru town centre along the river Bann and then onto Portstewart, a quick Google map search will show this and the streets in Portstewart
