If performance, range and all the extras interest you then it’s a great buy.

Nice drive, comfortable, well put together.

I am having some software issues with mine but hopefully will get that sorted soon. Other than that really happy with it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 238 ✭✭Ryano87

Great thanks for the info. We just put a deposit down on GTX performance on Monday.

Am nervous about residuals and software but fingers crossed all works out.

Delivery due in 2 months (was already on order by dealer).

Will be our first EV but already have home charge point installed as had ordered an EV6 in 2022 but dealer couldn't get the spec i had ordered in the end.

I’m still happy with mine. Minor niggles with software such as not being able to permanently turn off the seasonal theme and I had to have the suspension checked (was a loose part and sorted quickly) but they really haven’t made me think less of the car.
It’s a very solidly build hatchback with good performance when needed and as it has adjustable suspension, can be firm or comfortable.
Do play around with the settings as there’s some options in there that may be important to you (ie opening one door/window vs all, auto lock/unlock) and I’ve found the sound system better since I upped the surround sound effect.
Otherwise, drive and enjoy once you get it.

Luke warm praise for the GTX- prefers the Cupra VZ. A few howlers as well- average driver needs to charge twice a week? - also Audi is the parent of Cupra?

3/5 stars for the best value car to EVER be sold on the Island of Ireland? Sure it’s not a GTI or an Iconic 5N but they cost DOUBLE the price!!

Given years of paddy spec cars, costing way more than UK models for **** spec (aka Mercedes), he slates the best value EV in Europe?? He’s perfect for a 95k e-class diesel from Bradys! Loves being ripped off!

Ref the Auid piece, they were (if not still are) certainly the parent company of SEAT which is now SEAT and Cupra so they could be right about that bit. There was a lot of parts sharing between Audi and SEAT (SEAT Exeo is an old A4 set up for example)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 402 ✭✭Ev fan

That surprises me but you could be right. I thought VW owned Seat and also owned Audi as a separate division.

I’ll never understand why some people don’t love this car as much as I do. All the negative reviews base their claims on it lacking “je ne sais quoi” which is a way of saying; “I’ve got nothing.”

Then there are those absolutely wedded to the idea that petrol cars are the benchmark by which all cars should be judged, which leads to idiocy like the Ioniq 5N’s fake transmission and fake engine noises, though I’m sure it’s a fine car. It’s ridiculous and infantile. When I was a child, I had a fake “motorcycle engine” toy that I attached to my bike and that made vroom vroom noises. I guess I’m out of step if I say that I’ve outgrown such toys.

I’m in the US at the moment and given the number of times I’ve been blasted out of it here by some fool revving his motor, I reckon one reason that EV uptake is so low here is that the big babies have to make big roars to get everyone’s attention.

I love the stealth qualities of my GTX

Ultimately the VG group own all. For a long time (not sure if it's still the case), Skoda were under VW and SEAT/Cupra under Audi. It allowed for platform and parts sharing. From memory the Q5 was build in the SEAT factories in Spain for example. Skoda were known as rebadged VW's and therefore far better value if you weren't put off by the badge.

Thought I'd post an update on my ID.3 issue I'd posted in the old thread. Maybe of help to some.

A charging socket error appeared while driving. Once I stopped it wouldn't go again as it thought the cable was plugged in so had to be towed to the garage. A few weeks later finally fixed and the diagnosed issue was corrosion on some connector due to a grommet not being in place in the boot. Fairly hefty bill to boot!

Would probably have been covered under the original warranty but water ingress (or issues relating to) is explicitly not in the Approved Used one sadly. If I find the exact location of the grommet I'll post it. No harm in checking it. Maybe where the tyre kit is. I do seem to recall someone in the old thread finding water in there when looking to buy a used one. I found a little too. No idea how it gets in.

    C.

bizzare claim that a 500km range leaves most owners charging twice a week, so most owners are driving 1000km a week, 52000km a year!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 402 ✭✭Ev fan

Yes definitely odd, especially with the larger battery. I assume he meant once a week which would mean around maybe 20k a year as most charges are done with some battery capacity remaining.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,960 ✭✭✭MojoMaker

If you drive 550kms a week you are charging twice essentially, think that was the point that the range of one charge wouldn't be enough to fulfil average weekly driving distances.

Hardly a criticism though, can't think of a car that would only need to charge once to deliver reasonable mileage of say 25K kms a year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 402 ✭✭Ev fan

It depends what you think most EV owners average mileage is - from what I've read it's around 17k which would mean 1 charge per week. There is a small subset of owners of course who do 29k kms annually or more as you say- which would necessitate 2 charges per week. However it is possible that a good number of GTX owners may do higher mileage as they are likely to be driving enthusiasts.

I agree. My day to day mileage is low but I’ve headed out for a “spin” a few times now.

I'm collecting a GTX PP early next week.

I've had a look at some info on the software here to get an idea what to expect. First time to own an EV so not sure yet what else to look out for.

Edit : Tech_Head pointed out this is not the software version used in the GTX (v5.4). Will leave the link here in case it's of any use for previous platform.

The software on the GTX is 5.4 and totally different from 3.7 - just so you are aware.
    It’s much better too.

Anyone any idea how to set the screen to show the GTX logo for longer when the display is starting up. Also any idea how to set default mode to Sport?

You can’t - will always default to comfort mode.

3.7 was fine on my last one. CarPlay took longer than you’d expect to connect but everything else was fine. Weirdly, it didn’t have any rear seatbelt warnings to let you know if rear passengers had clicked in their seatbelts but new one does.
Overall much snappier and a better display overall.
Still some silly things, if you have CarPlay / Android Auto on, there are 3 different menu buttons which is just bad design.

Mine will be registered next week so will then need to pay up before collecting.

on the battery charging i thought it was advised to charge to 80% as much as possible? With lfp like I have now you can run it low but then charge to 100% each week.

Have a family member looking at an ID.3, any pros/cons for the glass roof? Would it be blinding for rear passengers? I understand it will make the car hot on a Sunny day but is it unbearable, assuming the AC can keep up?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 81 ✭✭The 1922 Committee

Last week a rear seat passenger complained about the sun so I slid the blind back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,013 ✭✭✭Buddy Bubs

Yeah a/c can keep up no problem once the system is working properly. Theres a blind to cover it fully or partially if anyine getting too much sun, its tinted anyway.

They are a good job to be honest. Nice light in cabin. I wouldn't pay a big premium for it but they're a nice to have rather than a must have in my opinion.

Some of the earlier id3 with glass roof were strictly 4 seaters because of weight or something, the middle seat and seatbelt is removed and is more a storage area. Just something to be aware of. The more recent ones are 5 seaters with glass roof.

Used the 300kW charger in Circle K in Fermoy today on my ID.3 GTX Performance Plus.

    Got 183kW upto 32% SoC.

Ah I didn't realise they had a sunshade that will definitely help.

Does the glass roof impact headroom at all? With a sunroof you'd usually see a second headroom size in the brochure for cars with a sunroof but nothing for the glass roof, even though the shade mechanism is in the rear.

Recent reports of squeaky seals that are easily sorted with a silicone lubricant but that’s all I’ve heard.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 81 ✭✭The 1922 Committee

My 3 adult rear seat passengers last week didn't complain about space. Tallest of them was around 5foot9
