It’s probably a combination of mileage on the clock and mental fatigue that has caught Limerick

While the bigger players hegarty lynch gillane and a few of the backs have shown glimpses of great play they just can’t do it for prolonged periods anymore that’s normal there not robots

Kiely has 100% been to Loyal to the likes of byrnes and others when they have been got at in a few games

Looking at limericks panel Flanagan very out of form Casey not a starter anymore o Donovan has hardly hurled in 2 years hannon was finshed last year

The biggest thing is apart from the bull o Connor o Neill and English who are all from midfield up there been no young fresh defenders break into that back six just players converted to defenders or moved into different positions in the backs

In fairness Limerick have been hell of a team since when they made the breakthrough in 2018. As the old saying goes though all good things must come to an end eventually.😉

Bit unfair to say Dublin have zero chance of getting near Liam trying to belittle the opposition doesn't really look good Dublin were down to 14 men in Savage heat and they won against a team that is renowned for it's fitness Dublin deserve more that being slagged by you accept they were better as Limerick were the last few years I was at the match and they were really passionate and thoroughly deserved their win fair play to them

I dont know if this is the end of the Limerick team but they took their eye off the ball today and were lacking their usual intensity.

Thats that now. Limerick have had their one game with everyone thnking they are back to their best, same as last year. But the fact is Limerick have had 3 wins in the last 9 championship matches. It's the end of an era

I said the very same thing about WOD at half time, the man did not even touch the ball in the first half, his opponent the fublin number 8 had 4 points I'm sure

Coughlan isnt really an option. Have a look at the 2nd goal Tipp scored against Limerick in the league below in Pairc Ui Chaoimh last year- Fellas like Coughlan can only be trusted in Croke Park if your up 10 points!

should have tactically taken off reidy straight after red. Flanagan and bull on. Extra man up front and Dublin would have to sit deep

A sad way for this team and management to be remembered. For a team from a county starved of success to redefine how the game is played and win 5 AIs in 6 years, we will always be thankful for the joy and pride they brought us. Today is not how this team should be remembered but it was an awful defeat. Sorry Dublin, people might say they were great and all that but the story today is about how poor Limerick were. Dublin will be gone in two weeks and their moment in the sun soon forgotten. Today was a sorry display - both from the players but even more so from the sideline - by one of the greatest sides to grace the game and unfortunately time has come for the KK rule over the team to end if we are to inject new life and ideas into many of these players who are still in their 20’s. This wasn’t the greatest shock ever, the signs were there for 12 months but you could sense the 5-time All-Ireland winning team were gone when Dublin started out scoring them after Crummey was sent off. A man up against the 3rd placed Leinster team and struggling - car crash stuff.

It's hard to get over how terrible it was. They played like it was a league match in March.

Adam English kept us in it and Nicky the only other player who wasn't fuking up.

the red card for me was the turning point ironically. I was in the cusack. The feeling in the ground was like ah well thats that. Dublin put 3 over without reply and we were all shouting at the team there is still a match to be won here.

Kiely will deny it but limerick totally looked past Dublin last 2 weeks after the red dublin were 50/1 😬

Agree on Adam English and he only 23? It feels churlish to criticise anyone who was won 5 All Irelands but good god, it was astonishing to watch. At one point, 3 Limerick players each had a touch on the ball in a loose ruck and all failed to get control of the ball - a Dub got the next touch and took possession - it was keystone cops at times. And when DH was put in at 6 and KH pushed back out to 7 I thought we were as well as done at that stage. An awful way for a great player to be remembered.

it is mind boggling. Surreal feeling. This is not like 2019 hard luck story or last year semi final puck of a ball etc in it. With all due respect its Dublin. Leinster no 3 who were out last week v kildare with 14 men. The great kk. Tipp cork teams on the wane didnt go down like this. Its embarrassing

I wonder if they regret going out on the lash after the Munster final, fine having a few drinks but it did seem that they were out till morning and it can take best part of a week for a long night to leave your system, not just alcohol but lack of sleep etc

the plan was that night on the lash after munster and a week in Portugal training cause we should have won Munster. That munster final mentally and physically drained the team. Kiely will deny it but the preparation must have all been wrong last 2 weeks. If kiely was serious about Dublin there wouldn’t have been a piss up with a qtr in 2 weeks.

    I thought Limerick looked leggy.

A great team on their day, but time is undefeated.

Very disappointing and they owe us nothing but the fight seems to be gone from them, I lost count of the amount of rucks and aerial balls we lost today, that's hunger and fight missing, our spare man should have been someone like casey on earlier and operating up beside lynch and giving dublin something to worry about, gillane will be disappointed with the missed frees and the goal chance, he just needed to keep it low, our half back line was destroyed and poor WOD didn't touch the ball in the first half while his man scored 4, even CON was nervy when introduced and made uncharacteristic errors, we need to find a few new players for next year as a few are finished if I'm honest

The beauty of sport you have to keep proving yourself, Dubs were better today, Limerick have had so many of those days in recent years we've been so lucky, one regret is not putting €50 on Dublin.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 153 ✭✭biglad40isback

never won an ai with this team without caroline currid. How much good could she have done after that penalty loss and blocking out the dubs are going to get tonked noise.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,345 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

    Yep.

We wouldn't go into today's game arrogant if she was around. The "championship quarter" comebacks dried up without her too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 815 ✭✭✭LeoD

Ah please, can we leave CC out of this as it demeans the quality of these players further. Fair enough, a young team from a county who hasn’t won a championship in nearly 50 years and had grown used to heartbreak could may have been helped by a sports psychologist but these are now grown ass men with 5 AI championships in their pockets so should be well able to stand on their own two feet and beat a mediocre Dublin team. And can we also stop going on about how much was drank/not drank after the Munster final - you’d swear they never had a beer between games in the past. If anything, I think it has been their balanced approach to the game that has kept them at the top for so long. Every other county has upped their game significantly but we’ve hardly budged. Our touch and shooting has been different class for the last few years but it’s been on the wane since last year - maybe they need a sports psychologist to tell them that one touch would be better than two. And I’d hate to be playing in our full forward line - 90% of ball that comes inside the 21 is 50’ in the air and a shot from out the field. AOC and SOB both look like they could do damage if given the chance but they have been living off scraps.

spot on. Back 6 is the issue. I dont think Kiely is loyal. If he had better options he would drop the above mentioned players.

If you look at our back 6 only finn and brynes are in their natural positions. Dan was a 7 until Casey injury and condon retiring. Nash half forward. Kyle replaced dan at 7. Casey moved to corner back when nash was moved

Chanced wod back there too. Back to the drawing board I think

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 396 ✭✭jamesbond2022

There’s a not much competition for the back 6 spots either look at tipp and cork new younger players have come in the last few years at corner and fullback etc

Kiely definetly was a bit to loyal to mulcahy in his final year aswell

Limerick don’t have as much coming through as is needed to keep refreshing the panel

The likes of t morrisey is not a 70min man anymore either

And the one player, Barry Murphy, that put his hand up this campaign as a possible challenger in the back six isn't even a natural defender.
