I'm not a fan of the 'sim' only connectivity of the Ohme.

I guess out of those 3 for free, I'd go for the Zappi, but probably worth getting an extended warranty from myenergi.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

Thanks. I was thinking the same way about the Sim only connection as mobile coverage isn't brilliant locally. I will look into the extended warranty once I get set up

Anyone else have an EVbox charger? Have you received an email telling you that the account and smart features will be deactivated/closed from December next?

RD0041-AC07-V1.06 is out for the BG SyncEV 2 charger. I didn't catch what the update fixes/improves as I was prompted in the app to upgrade it.

EDIT: What seems to have changed is it starts to charge immediately on connection. (Previously it needed an "immediate charge" rule created, or you had to start the charge via the app. Now there's a new toggle switch enabling this, which I didn't see before in the portal/app).

Presumably you've heard they're closing down? I had heard they were keeping apps etc. going until 2027 but maybe they've changed it.

Hopefully they won't 'brick' the charger and you can just continue to use it as a 'dumb' charger and use your cars app for setting charging instead.

Question for folks - anyone know what smart meters are rated at for maximum electricity flow rate before failure? i.e how many kw can flow through them before they might fail?

Most ROI homes supply are 50 amps continuous rated, but can easily go to 60 amos for short periods. Some mainly newer homes with heat pumps have a larger supply and a bigger fuse. ESB networks can tell you what supply you have. During an EV charger install the electrician will check the wiring an earths. It's very common for them to recommend the tails between the ESB meter and the house fuse board are increased in thickness, to handle more power, and exact load depends on house fuse board and how many things are run off each fuse etc. Typically you should try limit long term overnight usage to 50 amps max, such as car 32 amp, dishwasher 10 amp, washing machine 10 amp, immersion heater 20 amp etc. Typically the car charger will measure the load and reduce itself to keep total below 50.

Thanks my question is what the smart meter is rated at? Couldn't find anything online about it. Probably sounds like a stupid question but I'm just curious

This is why it’s probably wiser going forward to stick with the established players like MyEnergy and HyperVolt. EVbox and Anderson before them going under. Though Anderson were just silly expensive and I believe were taken over by another crowd so the APP still works.

Anderson were in massive trouble, myenergi is in fairly serious financial rollercoaster.

Myenergi relies on their servers/cloud for controlling their chargers but older models have buttons. The latest model has no buttons at all!

I do expect some smaller providers may go bust, and even myenergi who are fairly large are struggling to match income with outgoings. They have had lots of tech, reliability in terms of hardware and software issues. Also in Ireland (ROI) using solar to fill.your EV does not really make financial sense and many installers are avoiding recommending them if they can.

Yep, or just stick with old school, I replaced my last dead Zappi with an old dumb €20 used wallpod that just does exactly what you want in a charger without all the drama, namely just charge! 🤣😂

Literally just has the charge controller and contactor inside so very little to go wrong.

So, does this mean, I can just continue to plug the car in and it will charge. Never really used the app for much……

Hopefully so, if in doubt contact them while they're still around and ask, or if you want to test, switch off the WiFi and see will it work.
