If the Munster teams do a number on us in minor it will be sickening. This is our best minor team in 20 years. Hopefully they get over the line.

We could and should have beaten dublin minors by 14 or more.Im confident our current minor team are as good or better than any munster team.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 124 ✭✭Sir Chaz

Kilkenny beat Dublin by 14 pts and 12pts not 5? Difficult for Dubs in fairness it was their 6th game in 6 weekends including 2 heavy defeats to Kilkenny in 2 of previous 3 weeks, and looked like their 2 best players at 6 and 11 were injured.

Clare were coming off a nice break and were set up for that game. Going on Munster form it'll be them or Waterford in the semi for Kilkenny.

Tipp are very good alright, but far from inbeatable. Kilkenny will have to be at their best but it's set up for them as underdogs. Our backs are more than decent and we have enough potential match winners to do the business. A win would be a huge boost for the county, I really hope we get a strong Kilkenny support on the day.

You are right, we got some late scores to pull away from Dublin. Still the performance of minors particularly now it is u17 can vary from day to day. Remember in 2014, there was a team for the ages from Limerick beaten by Kilkenny. That Limerick team included Sean Finn and forwards Cian Lynch, Barry Nash, Seamus Flanigan, Tom Morrissey and Peter Casey. Although Liam Blanchfield, Luke Scanlon and John Walsh made appearances for KK at senior level, Tommy Walsh was the only starter to nail down a place. Billy Ryan was a sub

Good idea blackcard. But some hurling people are too up themselves to adopt football rules. The "hurling snobs" as some call them!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 463 ✭✭Alonzo Moseley

Totally lawless, keepers are often 7-8 yards outside the square when contact is made with sliotar on puck outs.Never pulled.

Steps, throwing, not waiting for whistle on puck outs, stealing yards on frees then stealing another 5 balancing it on the hurl.

The rules of hurling are being waived to help create the "spectacle", the 1-29 to 0-34 "spectacle". It will end badly for hurling.

We got lucky when Galway got chinned by Dublin in U20, Galway looked the strongest team in it for me, we shouldn't fear Tipp at all, the Munster championship u20 early round matches I saw were poor.

Tipp v lucky to beat Clare, Clare the better team till the peno and black card. I'd be cautiously optimistic we will win.

On the minor, i suspect Dublin and Wex jacked it in last weekend, knowing they had no hope of winning the AI, and as another poster pointed out, we hammered both of them earlier.

I assume we play winner of Waterford v Limerick in semi and I'd be hugely surprised if we dont dispose of winner, but u17 (as we saw last year and Galway in 2023, and this year with a supposedly highly rated Tipp) can produce dud performances from (on paper) very good teams. 16/17 year olds are only kids but you'd need to be blind not to see this Kilkenny minor team (and last year's too) have some very talented hurlers.

oh I know that Blackcard but it’s the lack of respect that’s shown towards us. Ourselves and Galway will give a good account of ourselves yet.what I’m saying is when the media keep hyping up Munster, the Munster teams start to believe it, we will wait and see the outcome. Are the wheels coming off the Cork wagon.

Waterford are strong. We wouldn't want to underestimate them.

Cork wont be winning an All Ireland. I would fancy Kilkenny to turn them over, Limerick showed us how to beat Cork, bring everyone back behind the ball to restrict Corks pace and running game and 3 men inside, suffocate them and turn them over, they are vulnerable under a high ball and leave loads of space in the back line, also they are poor when the ball hits the ground, easily out muscled on rucks. They do not seem to have a plan B. Hopefully Kilkenny get Cork now as i would expect us to beat them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,062 ✭✭✭conor05

Even Waterford showed how fragile Eoin Downey is at full back, when S Bennett went inside he caused mayhem on him.

Mark Coleman really weakens their half back line defensively aswel, he just can’t defend.

I’ll be shocked if Limerick don’t beat them in the Munster final.

I felt the day in ennis after letting that lead slip they would not be winning the AI. No way Limk would let that lead slip with 14 men. I think if you get in their face they are not tough enough. Lovely hurlers and great to watch when going well.

maybe wrong but Tommy walsh was on the minor team with Adrian Mullen and john.donnelly beaten in extra time by dublin at minor in parnell pk.Donall Burke played for dublin.Richie leahy was the standout player IMO against that limerick team in 14

Yeah that's a serious side! No greats but plenty of very good hurlers there

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 124 ✭✭Sir Chaz

Tipp are arrogantly confident that they'll win but while they have a very good side, I think the Kilkenny team is seriously underrated, probably due to the failure of this side to get past Laois in the Minor championship of 2022.
The team is backboned by 2 Croke Cup winning teams, has excellent defenders who have the ability to curtail or contain a very good Tipp attack, and have enough scoring power and standout forwards to do damage at the other end. There's serious character in some of these lads as well.
2 of Tipps backs are just out of minor and whilst both are good players, it's a huge step up to mark a 20 year old as an U18.

I'd suspect the Leinster U20 championship was far stronger than Munster, and while we were certainly lucky that the Dubs disposed of the 2 favourites, I believe we'd have had a serious chance of doing the same.
There seems to be a bit of grit and substance to these lads, and listening to the interviews after the Leinster Final it sounds like they are a very united group, and on a bit of a mission to make amends for last years misfortune as well as their failure at minor level. They are going in as underdogs at home which will suit them down to the ground.
A win Saturday would give a bit of belief back to Kilkenny supporters and a bit of serious momentum for the seniors, and would be a real boost for supporters attitudes for the rest of the year.

Imagine winning v Galway on Sunday week, and going into a semi final in Croke Park with the possibility of having a 20 and Minor All Ireland in the bag? Long way to go to achieve that I know, but things would be looking a hell of a lot rosier all of a sudden for the county.

I would love to know where some lads on here meet tipp people to say we are arrogantly confident of winning. I haven't met 1 tipp person who thinks we will win easily. Actually most are worried about Cummins tactics as in last year's final they were way too cautious even when losing with time near up. We have decent players but alot in tipp feel the management tactics are not getting the most of them and could come acropper Saturday against a good kilkenny side. Clare could have bet us in the final, lost to limerick so no nobody I know think this is a gimme match.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 489 ✭✭Krazy gang

In fairness to Coleman I thought he was excellent against waterford. Yes I know he doesn't defend well. Cormac ó Brien is a good defender though, very dogged and would suit Hegarty better than Coleman.

Wouldn't write off cork yet. They were awful last year against dublin in the quarter final, then put in a brilliant performance to beat limerick. If they have downey, Dalton and o Leary back they'll be very dangerous in croke park.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 489 ✭✭Krazy gang

I'm curious to know what you mean by "tipp are arrogantly confident they'll win"? The players and management, supporters or media? If you're talking about players I'd very much doubht that. Brendan Cummins was at the leinster final and I'm sure he knows most of the kilkenny players and their ability.

Well Coalminer I was out in Comer today and I saw no flags or signs saying how proud you are of Michael Brennan representing the club with the KK U20’s instead of getting on your high horse about trivial matters maybe you could address this and this goes for all the clubs ,everybody should be getting behind this team it is so important to KK to try and win this in our own backyard.Dicksboro have theirs up so get out there and put out the flags.

Your dead right Marooned. Kilkenny hurling is on the up. Time to bring some of the buzz back around the county. Would like to see the county council put up flags too seen as we are in 3 leinster finals, one we have already won.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,630 ✭✭✭Village87

Have we not won 2? Minor and u20. All going well we should win the 3, i cannot see that Galway team do much

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,582 ✭✭✭MfMan

What became of Richie Leahy? Thought he was going to be the next Michael Fennelly at one stage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 762 ✭✭✭Conversations 3

Injury mostly I think, he's hurling up a storm over in Oz.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,630 ✭✭✭Village87

I think he had a bad injury hurling last year in Australia and is out for a while. Awful pity things did not work out for him with Kilkenny. The last 3/4 years he would be some addition if he got fully fit, streets ahead of some players getting game time the last few years. He must still be only 27/28, but definitely one that got away. Michael Fennelly and Tj did not become regulars until 25/26, if Leahy was a bit more patient, handled better, got a bit of luck he would now be a powerhouse.

That's the narrative in a nutshell, Tipp have the much better team and the only thing that will stop them is bad tactics from management. Same last year when Offaly won, it wasn't how well Offaly played and the fact they were the better team on the day, Tipp only lost because Cummins and his management team messed up.

Any Tipp person I've spoken to is only worried about management and tactics, they're not worried about Kilkenny. That's the same narrative generally online also. Basically if our tactics are OK we'll win easy. No doubt Tipp are a good side but that might be the rock they perish on.
