Sack that management team and get rid of that county board now! Shambolic stuff why we sat so deep in the first half was absolutely crazy. The team is so badly coached. Why we have to play this sweeper system I don't know. It was figured out 7 years ago. Felt sorry for Sean Walsh running around on his own inside in the first half. With the money from the win a house competition we should look for someone to come in and play an attractive brand of hurling. That county board couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery! Why on earth we went from Cahill to Davy I'll never understand it no other county with the ambition of winning an all Ireland would go for him just look at the state of Antrim. Surely the end goal for this team is to win an All Ireland and that chance is gone. And to the lads on here looking for four teams to get out Munster ye should get a grip. We have the players and are good enough to get the third place. We have good forwards and we should be encouraging more freedom and style. I'm sick of this feeling sorry for ourselves and we need to stop with the rubbish talk and look at ourselves in the county. It's a joke once again an early summer

sometimes you just have to say hand on heart we’re not good enough. We’re not bad, just not good enough to get out of this championship. Can’t fault anyone or make any excuses. They gave it their all, done the county proud. It’s going to be a difficult few years. Hoping we can start building from the u20s with this years minors next year, I’m hearing there’s another good crop coming at u15s aswell. We need to just give it time get the right coaching and structures in place and we’ll come again.

Would you have faith in this county board getting a good management team in charge when these players come to senior? I certainly wouldn't

When you refer to “this county board” who specifically are you referring to?

It was an ok 1st half and we should of punished them more as Cork we're terrible but that 2nd Cork goal was a killer and we couldn't get back into it even getting it back to 3/4 points. Hope Limerick hammer Cork but have a feeling it won't be the case

Tbh last week was the 'chance' and today was always going to be difficult. Another year over in May,so frustrating yet again. Have to feel for the older guard as they could walk away now on that whimper. Great servants esp Jamie Barron, Stephen Bennett (our best forward of the the year),TDB and sadly Aussie just couldn't get right for this year (that year out might of been a mistake) and was a shadow of himself coming on. Mark Fitzgerald had a great year and Sean Walsh tried his best

Suppose getting promotion in the league was the big positive and that Clare win was a good day. 1A will not be easy but its good to be getting games against the top teams each week, this blasted system in Munster will always be dog eat dog

The CB are to blame a small bit with the managerial appointments expect for Liam Cahill but maybe Covid format suited us in that regard. 2019 under Pauric Fanning didn't work out and then bringing Davy back turned out to be a disaster. Can't see Queally and co going but maybe a bit of a shake up. What is Eoin Kelly's responsibilities ?

No offence meant for anyone for been negative and the petty personal attacks

Next year might be easier, you have 2 of the 'harder' games at home, vital to get 3 points out of these. Any amount of blaming the round-robin system though can't gloss over the fact that the squad isn't good enough or deep enough.

    Easier

    Thanks needed a laugh

The difference in this format showed today, Kilkenny can play a 2nd string team and Dublin vs Galway was just a 'match'

The whole lot of them! What do you want us to do keep doing the same thing over and over again and expect a different result? Lets bring back Davy or McGrath shal we? Should we settle for being mediocre and keep saying every year that "next year we will do better." Why do these players train and give their all to the jersey? Is their ambition to have bad management teams inflicted upon them and to finish 5th or 4th every year in Munster and be out of the championship on the 25th of May? We need to set our targets higher cause we have great players in the county and the reason we are failing lays at the feet of this county board. Michael Ryan gave a great insight into how shambolic our underage structure was when he was talking to Shane Stapleton amd Noaise Waldron on our game in 2023. He said all the other counties in Munster were training in August '22 while we didn't start training till the first of January 2023. After that discussion he wasn't retained for the following year. It's the likes of him that should be in the county board and not buffers, snakes and spoofers who have held this county back with stupid decisions and damaging appointments. Penny wise pound foolish comes to mind. Martin Cullens interview in WLR FM said it all in 2018

Limerick also had the luxury of playing a weakened team. Dublin match was competitive and relevant for Galway at least as they wanted to make the Leinster final and throw the Parnell park hoodoo off their back.

Waterford have to make Walsh park a fortress; not losing your home games is key in this format. Playing Clare away, as you will next season, is the best chance you'll have of getting that priceless away result - a disputed 65 last year was all that stood between you and qualification.

realistically barring Dublin can you hand on heart say we’re better than any of the other teams left in the AI championship?

sick of quelly and his excuses one week it’s too windy the next it’s a ref decision and the next there too tired

Why do Waterford always go for such negative managers. Ye actually have good forwards but never play to yere strengths.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36 gunners200

duck o rourke for me has to be offered that job why is he a hurling coach at cork but yet at Waterford he on some stupid advisory board, least with him in charge we would have proper structures in place. What’s quellys credentials for the job ah he’s a great Waterford man ?

Commiserations there to Waterford. The thing is if Waterford were in Leinster i'd have you ahead of Dublin and Wexford, and you would have come out of the Leinster championship round robin on at least a couple of occasions.

As it is though Waterford are in the minefield that is the Munster round robin! I don't like it it needs to go we wouldn't have meaningless games like Clare and Limerick today as well if it was gone.

At least Waterford will have some better quality matches in the league next year now that you got promoted from division one b.

I dunno, worrying to hear him say after the game ‘we have to make it an attractive proposition for players to play for Waterford’

I think if we are to move forward with Queally he needs to shake up his management team. we have been fairly comprehensively outfoxed on the sideline on every game we lost, You need the brains Iike a Kinnerk, Mickey Bevans or even a Duck O’Rourke on the line driving the changes and switches, with all due respect we have Dan as the No. 2 who is a good motivator but not a tactician of the calibre of these lads. We might a bit short on the field but I feel we’re well short on the sideline….

couldn’t agree more, well short on the line, I thought tactically this year we were all over the place,

another disappointing year over and done with. I used get upset about it but what is the point think have just got used to it by now. Can’t fault attitude and effort today. Frustrating thing for me was I taught cork were vulnerable today and in a way were there for the taking. Is it just me who found our tactics a bit strange especially in the first half when with the wind we persisted with the short puck out instead of going long and also why for most of the half did we only have one up top. Taught we needed to go after cork in that half but we didn’t.
Have our tactics just been too cautious over the years? The only manager who took the shackles off was Cahill and we were relatively successful. Would a new voice on the sideline with queally help, nothing against Dan but he has been there previously.

Queally a little unlucky this year with the way things panned out with Ozzies injuries and losing the three boys through travel and work. Think they might have made a difference today and last week.

Waterford will win an All Ireland Minor in 2028 and an u20 in 2030, we'll then have a decent pool of talent to challenge properly again at senior.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 207 ✭✭Deiselurker

I didn't expect us to get out of Munster and only tipped us to win 1 game against Clare so not surprised at how it went. We gave Cork a good rattle today and I'd say they were nervous towards the end until they got a few late insurance scores. The reality is rest of Munster are ahead of us at the moment and not sure that will change next year especially as a few of our best players are getting towards end of career. I think Peter Queally did a decent job this year with what he has. Hopefully get Callum Lyons back next year.

I agree we could probably do with another coach on the line for tactics to help him.

You did indeed have us worried a bit with about ten minutes to go!

Could Liam O Connor be a good option as Number 2 ?

Was Queally really Davys Number 2 ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,495 ✭✭✭Mastermcgrath

You mean Joxer? I’d leave him where he is doing good things with the underage, maybe he might prefer take on the the u20s next couple of years with the current minor crop and be ready to step in to the big gig after Queally leaves in a couple years down the line.

good point but not always the way esp with Sean Power in the past

Ballygunners Darragh O Sullivan could be next in line after Queally, his record with Ballygunner speaks for itself

It always disappointing to be out and it sucks that’s it’s over. I feel the game was there for us today. We needed a few more first half scores with the wind. That bad turnover just after half time to gift Cork the goal was a sucker punch. Again, some poor delivery into the forwards but I saw lads looking up the field in the second half for options and nobody making a run also. The puck outs were too slow and ineffective. Where I’m disappointed in Queally is that with 20 minutes to go, he brought on the wrong sub. Ten minutes later he brought on the right sub. Aussie made a difference in his cameo and looked sharp and up for it. I thought Sean Walsh did well but he was left isolated too much. Stephen Bennett again just did it all.

I think we just don’t have the players. Every other top county has one or two future all star candidates bursting through every year, putting everyone on their toes to keep their place. We just have a few new lads on the panel who get a go in the league with the odd jersey up for grabs. We can’t keep keep expecting miracles from our senior players. Bennett is performing miracles. I said at the start of the year that if we couldn’t get out of the round robin before now then I couldn’t see us doing it this year with an older team and losing Calum and Monty. Unfortunately that’s the case and I don’t see any way we’ll get out of it next year either. It’s cruel as we’re not that far away but Munster is just too cut throat.

I’d agree that we need a management shake up but I don’t know who this tactical genius is going to be. One thing I’ll say is that Darragh O’Sullivan must be some manager as Ballygunner are a magnificent team with average enough players!!
