For all the many posters heaping adulation and praise upon Biden in this thread over the past four years, I'm surprised none of them were minded to pay tribute here to mark his departure.

Undoubtedly a decent man, who steadied the ship when it was required, but he tried to hold on too long and his legacy will be tarnished by that.

Notwithstanding, nobody could have asked for a gracious display on handover and departure, fair play to him for that.

Yes domestically he did some good stuff and he was more progressive economically than expected, and his support of trans and pro choice issues is something we must admire, but nonetheless his support of Israel's genocide and ultimately his refusal to step aside early has led to Trump once again and that mean's his legacy is most certainly tarnished.

He might not be the monster that Trump is, but the spin that he is a good person , just surreal.

Doling out pre emptive pardons to several of his family members will surely go down as a mark against him. People would lose their minds if Trump did this, which he probably will now that a precedent has been set.

Some news just in a bad news at that. Joe has been been diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer.

Edit: just heard on the BBC that the cancer is on the bones also so not looking good but hormones might help him with a treatment option anyway.

I wonder what Trump will say about this. Will he have anything humane or decent to say at all?

Probably not or maybe he will surprise us. We just got to wait and see is there even a tiny tiny bit of humanity in Trump at all.

    Peace and long life.

Also, I know exactly how Trump will react.

He'll say something like 'wow… I just heard the news…' then show some humanity.

Then the next day he'll be back to blaming Biden for all of his failures.

Imagine getting cancer and all people about is how your political rival will react.

Imagine getting cancer and your political rivals use it to make digs. Should we say nothing about such vile scumbaggery?
Can we expect any criticism from you of such vile scumbaggery, or do you just do hand wringing about people's reaction to it?

All normal people wish Biden well in these times, it is the normal human reaction it almost goes without saying - but scumbags like this need to be called out.

Jeez man it was a benign statement based on what I saw here and on the other thread. It is a bit sad to get cancer and Trump be the first thing people think of.

It is sad, but we don't live in benign times. This is the depth Trump and his scumbag attack dogs have brought politics to.
Remember him making vile jokes when the Pelosis were attacked.

I'm struggling to see why this lit such a fire under you, but here's what you wanted: Donald Trump Jr. is a vile scumbag for tweeting that.

Now, have a lozenge and relax.

    A little thought experiment:

Let's imagine that things are the other way round. Biden was elected president, and news emerges that Trump has a serious cancer diagnosis. Would people worry that Biden would say something crass and tactless? They would not, because he doesn't have a history of doing exactly that.

In the situation as it exists, one of the people does have a history of saying appallingly crass and cruel things.

As it turns out, Trump got one of his social media people to stick out a perfunctory "will this do" tweet while his son pumped out the filth for the MAGA scum to enjoy.

    Does that help to explain?

Explain what? I wasn't looking for an explanation for anything.

I was making a valid statement that it is actually quite sad to get cancer and the attention be all about what someone else says about it. You explaining why the situation is like that doesn't negate my observation.

god I’ve never wanted to punch someone so bad. Not you odyssey by the way just to be crystal 😂

but seriously what a little prick. He needs a box in the mouth speaking like that honestly. Man diagnosed with aggressive cancer and he has the utter cheek to speak about his wife?? Like god give me strength.

I’ve never been so disgusted by a post online. What a sick little freak.

in any case best wishes to Joe and his family. Horrendous news and I feel awful for them as if they weren’t going through enough with trump winning etc.

makes a bit more sense that he decided to step back from the race- I imagine there was inklings of this back then. Probably was diagnosed with a much less severe dose of it and it’s gotten worse would be my guess- hence the announcement.

A hell of a dose to get at his age as well. After spending his life in politics he can’t even enjoy his retirement. On the other hand Mr Orange is spending half his presidency playing golf again, I tell ya it really is a messed up world.

How is it benign for Trump's son to use Biden's cancer diagnosis to make a crack at "Dr" Jill Biden (who is not and has never pretended to be) a medical doctor?

It really is scumbag behaviour - and that's not a word I use lightly.

just demonstrates how fcuking stupid he is. Probably fully believes Jill is a medical doctor. Idiot.

The Trump thread is also covering the Trump mob's reaction to the news.

I suspect it's worse than that in what it says about his character: I think he knows full well, but he despises Trump's supporters to the extent that he feels that many of them won't know the difference - and that who do are as hateful and lacking in empathy as him and so will see the comment as amusing.
