How much will I save when I go EV?

Forgive me if this is another myth, but I've been told that as EVs are heavier, the lifespan of tyres is shorter than ICE cars & cost of replacements is more expensive. Is this true? One guy at work with a BYD says they offer replacement tyres every year if you do less than 40k km.

I'd love an EV, but do an almost 200km commute to Dublin every day, with occasional family trips to family c. 300km away.

it’d save you a fortune on fuel anyway.

I haven’t noticed faster wearing of tires on a vw or a model y.

Well heavier cars wear tyres faster than lighter cars

And powerful cars wear tyres faster than slow cars

EV’s are usually heavy and powerful so can wear out tyres faster. But there are reports of 60k, 70k, 80k being put on some EV’s without needing to change tyres

depends on the car and the tyre. The BYD seal is good for 40k on the rear of the RWD model and probably 50k on the front. But the fuel savings for high mileage drivers who charge at home on a cheap rate or better again, free in work, will save a fortune in fuel. Simple as that. Tyre replacement is insignificant with this factored in.

Tyres will wear a little more quickly because of extra weight and torque, but as has been said, it's not significant or noticeable.

Waiting for a decent EV estate car with decent space

Hate the high SUV shape of cars

If you’re looking to save money don’t buy a high end EV new unless you’re prepared to keep the car long term. Unfortunately the trade still doesn’t seem to want them. Seriously cheap to run though if doing big mileage and can charge at home or work.
