I have to say I'm more open minded after hearing and reading Lizzy Banks story. Some labs can test to such small amounts that it has to open up potential for contamination not just lingering amounts from doping. I was 100% calling bullshít on the likes of Toon Aerts et al at the time.

What pojacar did yesterday in the world cycling road race ( going completely solo from 100k out) and all the out of this world super human dominant wins this season has to be filed under the Suspension of disbelief. Suspension of disbelief is the avoidance—often described as willing—of critical thinking and logic in understanding something that is unreal or impossible in reality

Out of the current crop, he'd be the one I'd be most suss about, but in terms of the outlandish, I'm not sure it's up there even for him this year tbh! He got a gap and held it, in the face of no coherent chase/ multiple tactical f*ck ups. If there was race radios yesterday, it never happens.

He wasn't completely solo for 100km. After his attack, he rode solo for ~ 6km before being collected by Tratnik. He then rode with the break, followed by riding with an increasingly bollixed Sivakov until ~ 72? km before riding the rest of it solo.

It helped that he was chased by an extremely dysfunctional group - any time they got their **** together they started closing.

As I said in post no. 275 above regarding the apparent double standards… "I wouldn't necessarily mind but it's almost impossible to enjoy a season of pro cycling without being dragged into the usual "wow, that was a 'superhuman' performance" debate", and here we are.

An alternative take on the sceptics viewpoint (ignore the headline)…

Could've warned us it was Jonathan Liew!

😂… is that a bad thing? What have I done?!? Am I going to be excommunicated from the cycling forum 😱

I say this as a subscriber to The Guardian, but he's just too Guardian for me! Never seen him address doping in football.

Ah… got ya! "too Guardian" 😄

His broader point is a fair one though. As is what he doesn't say, which is - as you DO say - the lack of forensic analysis of performance in other sports such as football.

Pogacars performances this year are even more outlandish. Riding at 100% peak level all year round on any terrain

Even cycling team bosses are publically calling out these extra terrestrial performances

I'm someone who's pretty uncomfortable with the team management and team history of UAE (enough I can't get fully aboard the Pog Love Train), but he lost me at "Ketones".

The French are pissed that Pog isn't French basically
