There's some good points there alright, I'd suggest maybe people are diminishing Clare's performance an awful lot though on account of Waterford beating them where they wouldn't if it was others. It's understandable to an extent I guess given our record in Munster.

Waterford won by 8, Cork were 9pts up when Shane Barrett was sent off. That was minus O Donnell, Cleary and Ryan bar 15 mins. Where was the talk of teams not coping without those players last weekend?

Meehan was excellent and wouldn't have played if Kelly was fit, Reidy, Taylor, Duggan, Malone and the corner backs were also outstanding. They had poor displays as well but don't think they were as bad as made out. The goals were pivotal, but also Waterford had a strong bench and I thought Shane Bennett and Patrick Fitzgerald had a big impact along with Kiely to turn the tide up front.

I'm a bit worried about Saturday to be honest.

If we do lose, a win against Tipperary would almost certainly guarantee getting out of Munster (we have a good recent record against Tipp).

Think Clare vs Tipperary is basically a knockout game, so Tipperary could be going into our game on a high or a low. Clare face Limerick on the last day

I know we were there last year but that win against Clare could be so crucial and has given everyone a huge lift

Clare were very flat at times they lacked any push after the second goal. I fully expected them to come back into it but they just didn't have the touch or legs from 60 mins.

Waterford drove it home and should be fully credited for that, the number 6 and backs for Waterford had a great game. Bennett was unreal.

Can they follow it up? Of course they can! if Lmk play similar to how they did in Tipp this Waterford team should have them under pressure. Then 4 points is a great place to be in.

Both division 1 semi finals were walkovers so BG and Passage contest the final. Don't know anything re the circumstances though

It’s good to get a win with things to improve on. Moral victories never got us anywhere. I thought our defense were brilliant throughout. Lyons absolutely emptied the tank and put in some unreal first half so no fault for fading a bit and that’s what the panel is for. I too was a little worried as for a few minutes it looked like the ball wasn’t going to stick up the forwards but credit to them for digging deep. Kiely was great for holding possession and we got some vital scores at the right time just to break any momentum Clare had. Where I thought we struggled was in the full forward line for large periods but that was probably more down to the lobbed in ball they were getting. Like others, I really feel that Patrick Fitzgerald is a weapon we need to use more. I think Curran often picks off scores better as a sub for some reason. Anyway, once we’re winning then Peter can do what he wants! Stephen Bennett is a legend and hopefully he recovers well this week.

Roll on Saturday and up the Déise!

Looking for one ticket as well

Looking for two tickets for Saturday night. Think they'll be a couple of changes from the team that started against Clare. We will need big men against Limerick. It will all depend on what sort of Limerick team shows up but I would be confident of getting something

Kiely will come in anyway. Possibly Kieran Bennett losing out with Jack Prendergast moving back to midfield where he ended up on Saturday. We might see another change on the forwards maybe Fitzgerald or Shane Bennett instead of Curran or Mahony. Although I think they like Mahony because of his work rate and exterting pressure on the defence coming out with the ball

They might decide to go with the same starting team again but I think you have to reward the lads that have come in and played well

I think we’ll see Aussie a bit sooner this time. I think it was smart to keep him in reserve when it looked like we had the winning of the game anyway

    anyone know of any injuries?

Waterford in a tough group in the Tailteann cup, Offaly, Laois and Wicklow the opposition

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8 rockable_audio

Is Gavin Fives still injured? Great to be able to call on the likes of Shane Bennett, Aussie, Sean Walsh etc from the bench. We have some good finishers to come in just hope we can keep the likes of Prunty and Tadhg fit for the rest of the year. Shane McGrath of Tipp reckons Mark Fitzgerald is the next Ken McGrath. He was very impressive against Clare a real powerhouse when running forward with the ball. We need to be accurate with our shooting on Saturday cause Limerick are accurate from out the field as well as in close

I wouldn’t pay any heed to that lad… absolute waffler

What will the Waterford match ups be?

Personally I’d be goin for Prunty on Gillane, Daly on O’Brien with Ian Kenny following Reidy he’s a good match for size wise. Reckon Limerick will move Hayes back to centre back for Barron as Will O’Donaghue was isolated by Jake Morris v Tipp. Hayes also covers the back line better. Maybe Adam English to 11 to pick off scores of Tadgh with O’Donaghue and Lynch at midfield. Leavy might wire into Hegarty with Mark Fitz picking up Tom Morrissey then

Wonder what kind of team limerick will field on Saturday, off the top of my head Dan Morrissey, Sean Finn, Declan hannon, darragh o Donovan, Cathal o Neill and Seamus Flanagan didn’t see any game time against Tipp with Peter Casey coming off the bench. That’s a lot of experience to be missing/to bring back into the team. Anyone got any sources down in limerick. Will these lads be playing on Saturday?

U20’s well beaten by Cork in their final game 3-21 to 0-18, seems to have gone unnoticed albeit a dead rubber game.

Anyone at it or if it was on TG4? Had we any stand out performers?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,775 ✭✭✭The White Feather

It was on tg4 youtube and you can watch it back if you have time. To be honest, Waterford were poor enough and had some terrible wides.

To me the Waterford standout was Carey who was on frees and got about 9. Twomey got about 3 points I think too.

Poor enough last night, but over all I don't think it was a bad year for the 20s

They could have got something from the Clare game but they had too many wades and gave away an awful goal due to a short puck out. I felt that game was much closer than the score line stated.

They should have bet Limerick, again some poor wides and some poor decision making.

Tipp and Cork were better no question, happy with the character V Tipp the lads dug in and fought well, in a game that could have been one to forget.

So it's disappointing seeing results get away but there was definitely positives to take out of it

Does anyone know if it is expected that some tickets will come available again through ticketmaster?

Last night was pretty much a dead rubber for us. Waterford needed to win by a big score and other resuls to go there way to have any chance of qualifying.

Overall it wasn’t a bad year for the u20s in the context that this group wasn’t a strong group coming up through the ranks from u14 to minor. In fairness to Ken McGrath he put his money where his mouth is and took on the group 2 years ago knowing they were a limited bunch. Last year we were well off the pace but this year with a good number of them still on the age there were massive improvements we were very competitive and right in it in every game, should have beaten Limerick aswell . There was a clear system of play and the skill levels had come on leaps and bounds and the amount of silly errors reduced massively. There are 3/4 very good lads I think will go on to play senior over the next couple of years, at the end of the day what more can you ask for from your u20s. Ken and his management team need to be commended for their efforts I think they’ve done their best to help Waterford hurling.

Whether he’ll go for a third year remains to be seen, with a strong minor group coming through maybe Joxer o Connor might want to continue the journey on to u20s with them and maybe even position himself nicely for the senior job then in a couple years.

That will depend if tickets are returned from clubs/season tickets.

If the clubs and season tickets holders are looked after then the remaining would be sold online.

    Season ticket had til Tuesday

Is the capacity going up when they complete the next phase ?

Not really, new capacity will be 12,500 compared to circa 12,000 now.

9,000 seated in North and South stands. 3,500 in West (Keanes Road) terrace and zero capacity in the revamped east (city) end of the ground, which seems a bit nuts to me
