I've a feeling their music is pretty poor but whether it is or not pop stars need to learn to keep their mouths shut and concentrate on producing/writing music. No one cares about their opinions

"This isn't about Kneecap, this is about deplatforming artists who speak out against Israel" is the party line. Will play well to their base

I mean it was fairly stupid going to America of all places, and plastering up "**** israel". It's literally like going to Iran and saying **** Palestine or going to the falls road and saying **** the pope. You are going to be targeted after that and they really didn't have to dig very deep to find some fairly reprehensible comments

Musicians and especially Hollywood folk need to STFU. Ricky Gervais called it right years ago.

Same guy lent the Kneecap land rover to supporters of Russian asset Clare Daly to put up election posters.

They got some dislikable people as allies and I've not been a fan of edgy Terrorist "chic", "art" or whatever you want to call it from the start.

    They've pulled a Sinn Fein.

Alienated radical fans and turned off moderate fellow travellers in one move. Delighted.

    How?

If Kneecap had more than one braincell between them then maybe it could but they don't and this would be a slam dunk for the government.

Kneecap didn't go for a more sensible "Stop the Genocide" "Free Palestine" "Feed the World" "Think of the Children". They went with cheering on terrorists.

Hamas and Hezbollah aren't popular in British media. No doubt Kneecap will try to dribble on about Palestine but thats a bit late now. They nailed themselves to team terrorist.

Since 9/11, and the infamous Oct attack of the music festival by Hamas where so many were killed, kidnapped etc, most people in UK and USA have little time for Muslim terrorists and their supporters. Hamas fired thousands of missiles in to Israel before Israel retaliated and invaded Gaza, so 2 sides to the story. The middle east is not black and white as Kneecap make it out to be. There are some muslims who are Israelis, and there are some Muslims who are against Hamas.

Interesting that the relatives of the last few MPs murdered reject Kneecap's half baked apology. An apology from the fellow who chatted to his computer online in his bedroom in Rathfarnham about the death of Drew Harris and Mary Lou McD was not enough to keep him from being jailed for 3 and a half years after Mary Lou McD demanded his prosecution. If Mary Lou was consistent she would also be looking for Kneecap to be prosecuted now, unless she thinks Tory politicians or British politicians lives are less valuable than her own?

Her response will depend what the bearded men in the back of the Pub on the Falls Road tell her to say.

As it's a matter for the UK, the threats were made in the UK about UK politicians, MLMD is in luck.

She can stay quiet and rightfully say it has nothing to do with her.

Whether she is conflicted in all of this we will never know, as she doesn't have to tell us.

Good points. However the 3 men in Kneecap would describe themselves as Irish and come from a constituency where SF is the dominant party, and most things that Kneecap have said is not a million miles removed from the SF position. Except "Kill a Tory MP" is going too far. It would not have mattered the nationality of the man in the bedroom in Rathfarnham, he was still jailed for three and a half years.

If Kneecap want to escape prosecution because they are Irish and called for the death of Tory politicians, than adds racism in to the mix if they claim it's OK because in these islands Torys MPs are usually English? They cannot have it both ways?

When you call to your crowd to kill your local politician or to support terrorist organisations you should know that actions like these have consequences.

The Democrats are just as supportive of Israel as the Republicans are.

They absolutely are not just as supportive. While it's true to say the Democrats are more supportive than most, maybe all, political parties in Ireland and perhaps in most countries, I guarantee you a democrat president wouldn't be inviting Netanyahu to the white house in the same manner as Trump recently did.

On the contrary, I view them as a below average band, hooking themselves up to a “cause” that just happened to also improve their social media following, and thus album and ticket sales - they performed this task pretty badly and showed they didn’t have any sense of the complexities of the conflict - they demonstrated this by advocating support for a terrorist organisation and felt it acceptable to tell their following to kill MPs.

Their ongoing deflections and lack of admittance that they erred greatly in what they said , just shows the world that they were “caught rapid” and are trying to weasel their way out now.

“Living in my head?” Nope- it’s just another news story about an idiot band who thought they could change the world, but crashed and burned- it will soon be added to the news graveyard of similar stories .

They have advocate for the murder of democratically elected members of a parliament, the fact that they would do that while claiming to support Palestine's right to self determination should tell you that at best they are a bunch of clowns and worst just jumping on a band wagon. They are certainly not worthy of any admiration.

Quite simply, they’re all subject to the laws of the UK- the same laws that ultimately got them their financial stipend grant from the UK government via their legal case.

It doesn’t matter what nationality they identify as- they were born and live in a jurisdiction governed by UK-if it’s decided they have a case to answer, they will be prosecuted

Only one of them wears a balaclava and that’s because he’s in his 40s and still registered as a teacher. Not very cool. There’s also pics of him without the balaclava, the balaclava is an improvement.

The way I see all this panning out.

Kneecap have undoubtedly damaged their image, and affected future money making ability. Yes they will always be able to play in Ireland to packed crowds, bit like The Wolfe Tones. Many attending will see it as 2 fingers to the establishment etc. They may even be able to play to European audiences too.

But they are done in the US. And probably done on mainland UK as well as I can't see them get licences to perform, or indeed many festivals won't invite them any more.

So it's an own goal in one way for them. They were flying and they had the potential to make a lot of cash over the next decade or so. They might still make a living, but not a fraction of what they could have made. The US fan base was probably loving the Ra/f the police/balaclava angle, but they will have alienated a lot of their own fans now. Very few will think it's acceptable to shout "up Hezbollah ".

They have made their bed, and perhaps are standing by their beliefs, but they now have to lie in it.

The best they can hope for now is some form of "fools pardon".

They can then get on with playing music and acting that is if they manage to get a gig.

Their credibility is shot (pun intended).

I heard he’s also asked The Prodigy to clarify their position on starting fires and smacking bitches up.

Anger? Show me one post where I indicated “anger” on this topic?
I view them as immature idiots trying to make a buck on other peoples misery which I’ve labelled as “sick”- but anger? No-they’re not anyways important enough to get angry about- sorry to disappoint you.

On the contrary, they’re losing out on gigs by the day including Germany just now and are barred from entering America for their sold out gigs later this year - I would doubt they’re “laughing” when it comes to matters financial

how is calling for people to murder Tory MPs somehow reflective on Starmer? It won’t even be brought up in court.
the whole Starmer has blood on his hands is bollocks anyway. The UK supplies negligible arms to Israel as it is and what they do is simply electronics that could be bought elsewhere.

Remind me of the time The Prodigy went grandstanding on global politics again?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,674 ✭✭✭Musicrules

🤣 You obviously weren't around when the Beatles were banned. This kind of thing increases sales and popularity. They'll make a living off your outrage!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,535 ✭✭✭Dick phelan

Apart from losing out on gigs, very hard to get any endorsements now. They will probably still have to pay costs to the US promoters, venue etc because I assume contracts were already fixed for US shows. It might make them more popular online but for musicians touring and brand deals are a large part of their income.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,033 ✭✭✭✭pjohnson

I'm sure cancelling gigs is profitable yeah?

    They are winning somehow.

I don't think their deluded manager could try to spin this as a success? Unless Hamas and Hezbollah are gunna start music festivals that Kneecap can headline?

The Life of Brian is the one that always springs to mind when I hear of things being banned and as a result becomes vastly more popular
