Kneecapping isn’t wrong if it’s done for genuine reasons?

You need to check your compass.

I’m sure their good friends in Gaza will book them.

We all know him much they love a good music festival out there.

Prior to this storm in a teacup I hadn't heard of them. Saw their unmasked photo in an article.

Why am I not surprised, if they had 1 more brain cell to use between the three of them it would be lonely, and expire from inactivity.

Article I saw also pointed out how they sued the UK government for withholding funding... while at the same time slagging off Britain. Such strong moral fibre in these Hamas supporters.

Clever word play may win debates, but it doesn't make it true.

Understanding and explaining things, is not the same as justifying them, if in doubt… please re-read this statement.

Christ what an appalling comment in light of the utter devastation in Gaza, the horror upon horrors there...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,447 ✭✭✭Flaneur OBrien

And they won that court battle because it's preposterous to withhold public money based on political allegiances.

How dare they critique a government, the cheek! A brain cell indeed...

I see their Eden Festival appearance in Cornwall has been cancelled.

    The first of many.

I'd say the Glastonbury cancelation is in the post.

Spot on. If they were f*ck Putin, there wouldn't be a peep.

“They should come out and apologise and move on” They come out and apologise “oh, they don’t mean it.” Hmm. In my view the pro Hamas hezbollah chant was wrong, but probably no worse than the old “oooh ah, up the Ra” chants. And as for the ‘kill your MP “ Again, not something I’d endorse, but someone earlier brought up the MlL McDonald threat, which was a specific threat against a particular person, which Kneecaps wasn’t. Bill Burr, the American comedian said after the United Healthcare CEO shooting “ it’s time to make CEOs afraid again”. Should he be equally condemned and prosecuted ? I’m not a fan of Kneecap, have never listened to them, but it does seem that there was a deliberate attempt to go looking for dirt on them after their “**** Israel message” Now, yes, you can say they made it easy with their statements, but I do think the reaction has been a bit hysterical, and I. Certainly wouldn’t be taking lectures from British politicians who are supporting what Israel has been doing in Gaza for a year and a half now.

Most of the civilised world is saying “fck Putin”- but they’re not saying “kill your MP” - small bit of a difference there don’t ya think?

The same 'cilvilsed' world supporting the mass slaughter of children, organised starvation etc...Starmer, Yvette Cooper chief among them....small bit of difference don't 'ya' think?

"Killing an Arab" refers to the Albert Camus novel, The Stranger. Not a call to go out and kill Arabs.

A little bit different than saying "Kill your local MP."

The anti-Israel stuff is defensible. The pro-Hamas,Hezbollah and Kill a Tory MP stuff was the tipping point, they can't put a reasonable defence and say that any of those positions are justifiable (for a sensible individual) and therefore venues, brands etc don't want to be associated with them.If they'd only said the Israel stuff the controversy would have gone away.

BTW I think they shouldn't be cancelled they should be let say whatever they want and continue to look like idiots if that's what they want to do.

No given that opening line at the start of the post, absolutely not.

They think words are more harmful than genocide”

They then threw in the word “unequivocal”, before going on a soap box rant.

Look at the whole post in “context”. A real sincere apology would have just had the part you quoted with no deflection etc.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

They were right about suing the government though. The Tories have no right to step in and say funding on goes to certain people who say what they want.

It’s clear you advocate the killing of MPs and the terrorist organisation Hesbollah - we clearly wont be seeing eye to eye.

Correct. Someone in this country was jailed only a few months ago for talking online about killing Drew Harris and Mary Lou McD. She complained, the man was prosecuted and jailed.

Given MPs have been murdered practically every decade, I think an Irish Republican band encoraging their impressionable young followers to kill English MPs is actually worse?

OK Cyprus Hill "How I could kill a man". If you're a fan of CH, are you going to go out and do that because they say it in a song? No.

Eminem rapped about killing his ex Kim. Would you plan on doing the same? No.

Why? Because hopefully you're able to think for yourself and don't use music artists as a moral compass with which you should live your life by.

You are allowed to think for yourself and make your own mind up.

They were doing great at promoting themselves with faux outrage and edgy comments.

However, they have overstepped the mark and will rightly be consigned to the dustbin, along with their rubbish music and balaclavas.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 367 ✭✭itsacoolday

Bit different when you come from West Belfast, dress up as provos, wear balaclavas like provos, name the group after a favourite provo torture disfigurement, and then tell impressionable young supporters to kill British politicians they would disagree with, like some other Republicans did lots of times?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,322 ✭✭✭✭Strazdas

I'm not so sure. The meltdown was fully underway days before either the Hamas or Tory MP videos surfaced. Anyone who criticises Israel in such strident and forceful terms from a concert stage and accuses them of genocide would face a huge backlash - there are legions of pro-Israel voices across social media and in the mainstream media, especially in the US and UK.

The comments about dead Tory MPs alone would never have caused such a furore.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,006 ✭✭✭✭Panthro

So if you're from Belfast you can't think for yourself no? Good to know.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,641 ✭✭✭ceadaoin.

It seems some of their fans now aren't happy that they said they don't support hamas and hezbollah. They're between a rock and a hard place really all because they couldn't just keep their mouths shut.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 123 ✭✭DireD

there wasnt a peep about that stupid mp comment for 2 years. they've played glastonbury in the meantime without it being mentioned. its all come from the yanks pissing in their jocks over the anti israel messages at coachella.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,088 ✭✭✭MFPM

So you ran out of road and resorted to this lazy nonsense. I know little about Kneecap, I couldn't tell you the name of a single piece of music by them, I'm not an Irish republican or nationalist, I don't support individual terror groups, their campaigns are reductive and doomed to fail be it Gaza, Ireland, Spain or anywhere else. However it's clear they have been deliberately targeted solely because of their stance on Israel. Keir Starmer is complicit in the mass slaughter of innocent children so I'll take no heed of the faux offence of c*nts like him, a vile man leading a vile government.

Any festival “UK” based is likely now to be cancelled purely from an optics perspective if nothing else -whilst smaller festivals could do with having a “controversial” band, maybe the pros will outweigh the cons at this point- I thought they might retain them to increase their profile but doesn’t look that way now

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 367 ✭✭itsacoolday

Kneecap have supporters all over, and you think there is no danger in inciting them to kill English or British MPs? It is not as if Republicans or others did not kill MPs before. The last one was killed only a few years ago I think.

The incitement to hatred is surely more dangerous than the person who was jailed after making threats on his computer in his bedroom in Rathfarnham one night?

All the things they're getting in hot water over at the moment are things they chose to say themselves.

As if it's a big shock that something you said or did years ago has the potential to come back to haunt you when you make your living by having a big gob.

Go to America and say those things and you can be guaranteed you're going to have your every utterance scrutinised going back as far as can be found.

Plenty of bands and artists have made very pointed political statements over the years, but these eejits went too far with the "kill your local MP's" jibe, now they're in damage control mode. Because what matters most is their ability to make money.

    Glazers Out!
