Trump gets a very negative press in this country but his obligation is to the people of the USA, to make America great again, to bring jobs and tax back to America etc. Yes, we love the hundreds of thousands of jobs here created by American companies, and the tens of billions in tax we get from worldwide profits of companies like Apple ( who do not manufacture here).

Here are 50 major things Trump done in his first 50 days in office. He has done more since then.

Wouldn't worry about the jobs going back to the US. They're not. Companies are actually fleeing the US.

Most of that report is nonsensical hyperbole, though getting rid of producing pennies seems like a win, that's a positive I suppose, though not sure why the POTUS had to be involved.

Didn’t read it but see car manufacturers like Volvo closing plants due to the cost of importing car parts, 100k federal workers sacked, tourists way down, dollar value way down, stock market down, peoples pensions down, yeah he’s doing a great job

This is just the word of the world's most famous liar.

It says much that the kindest thing he ever does for the American public is his golf grift.

The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the LORD your God.

    Leviticus 19:34

His golf grift is not the kindest thing he has done for the American public - they do not care about his golf. They do care he is making serious efforts to bring jobs and tax dollars back to America. They also care that he is controlling illegial immigration, unlike his predecessors. Quote:

    • Illegal border crossings have declined to the lowest level ever recorded — down 94% from last February and down 96% from the all-time high of the Biden Administration. In one sector, illegal border crossings are down 99% over 2023.

If illigial immigration continues the same way here as it is going ( has gone in the States), who know what will happen here in years to come. In the UK on one Saturday a few weeks ago, 656 people arrived in England on 11 small boats / dinghies from France, taking the total number of people crossing in 2025 so far to 8,064. Some of those 8064 are said to have made their way to Dublin via n. Ireland, for our social welfare etc. So I can understand why Trump is wanting to help his own people first. At least Trump is greatly reducing illegal immigration to the States : that is a positive, the topic of this thread.

I would think that, from the point of view of the native Americans, everyone in the US is an illegal immigrant

It is. The fact that you've gone straight to the standard whataboutery tactic doesn't change that.

They do care he is making serious efforts to bring jobs and tax dollars back to America.

Seriously stupid efforts that are having the exact opposite effect. If they truly care about this, they should eviscerate his record.

The only positive is the new alliances formed by ignoring America and it's high grade imbecilic orange putin loving moronic jizz rag president

No its not because for decades, big corporations have been shipping jobs overseas, dodging taxes, and raking in huge profits while the American worker got left behind. These corporations sold everyone out and the politicans didn't even put up a fight. Trump is the only one who has called it out and is trying to reverse decades of bad policy. Other Politicans enabled as they support the corporate elite above everyone else.

The American worker has not been left behind. They are doing phenomenally well for themselves in a high-paying economy with close to full employment - they just don't have to stand over a production line for 12 hours a day anymore.

Would these be the same corporations that the Republican party has been acting on behalf of for decades?

Yeah and that's why Trump is back in the White House. As Novemeber showed us people don't care about gdp/ job numbers. They want to see real change. They can see the US is on an unsustainable path with huge trade and budget deficits. This was always going to create political instability as we are seeing now. Time will tell what happens but one things for certain, they can't prop this hollowed out economy with cheap credit and imports forever.

Trump is only going to change things for the worse. Why are trade deficits bad? That's like me giving verbal abuse to the lad at Asda who takes payment for the weekly shop.

Yes exactly, all politicans are crooked as each other in the US. That's why a Republican majority congress has done absolutely nothing since Trump entered office. They are desperate to keep the gravy train going, spending like drunken sailors to benefit corporations.

They're not. This is just the MAGA both sides thing once again. Anything that actually benefits working class Americans has come from the Democrats.

Not anymore, cause Trump has completely imploded US power. It is an incredibly self-inflicted devastation of American soft and hard power. And every single American will suffer for it, though regrettably not equally.

November showed that people are idiots who think that cause there are higher prices in the supermarket they should elect a wannabe fascist who will upend the system that provided them with the greatest existence in history and immiserate everyone. But its ok cause they'll deport some brown people and you can apparently subsist on schadenfreude.

Anyone complaining about trade deficits is simply demonstrating their incredibly poor understanding of global trade and economics. Their complaints essentially boil down to "the US got too wealthy and we should fix that". Unfortunately for them Trump is doing just that.

That is whataboutery, as who cares about the view of the native Americans a few hundred years ago. America changed when Europeans arrived, no doubt about that. We are talking about Trump : this thread is about his positives. You do not think the fact Trump has massively reduced ilegal immigration in to the States is a positive?

One thing for sure, the course America was on a year or two ago is not sustainable.

President Biden has added $8.4 trillion to the USA national debt. At least Trump is trying to make America great again. Insanity would have bee doing the same thing Biden did - the USA could not borrow massively and live off cheap imports forever, while at the same time policing the world.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 29,748 Mod ✭✭✭✭Podge_irl

Trump is adding significantly more to the debt. Just like he did in his first term.

Can you define what great means to America? Because, as a US citizen, I think if no one in America went to bed hungry, everyone had a home to live in that was safe and secure, and health care that was cheap enough you didn't fear bankruptcy if you got a heart attack, would make a good start on greatness. What's your definition of 'great?'

MAGAts typically can't define it, much like they can't define woke.

You appear to have your illegal immigrants and legal asylum seekers mixed up there poster.

I have a genuine question, what is the issue with illegal immigrants in the USA? Anyone I know there illegally has been there for years, pays taxes owns businesses etc

UNFAIR! You can't go bringing facts into an argument just like that!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,801 ✭✭✭rock22

But, if you ignore the native Americans, the whole country is made up of immigrants. To oppose immigration is to suggest that migration has been a bad thing for the US. Much of the US economy depends, as it has always done, on the cheap labour that new immigrants inevitably provide. There are thousands of jobs that many MAGA supporters don't want to do. So no, I don't think restricting immigration is good for the US. Or for that matter, but it is another thread, for the EU or Ireland.

Once they get to Ireland they're living the high life on that sweet €38.80 a week. That's without mentioning the free car and unlimited supply of buggies that they leave randomly at bus stops to wind up the natives.

In his first term, Trump added $7.8 trillion to the US debt. In his second, he's likely to add much more, as the combined effects of tax cuts and economic depression cause revenues to crater.

I think unfortunately there is a backlash among some men towards the Me Too movement. I'm concerned that the days when victims were not believed might return. The women who accused Trump and Kavanaugh suffered disbelief and humiliation to some extent from the MAGA people.

However I suspect at last there are the beginnings of criticism from the new voters that voted for him (he put a lot of effort into bringing out people who dont normally vote, who tend to be more anti-Establishment). At a recent Wrestlemania fight, he and UFC boss Dana White were booed. Usually they are cheered.

This is not "a positive" but helps explain the gender divide in the election.

But regarding were there any positive reasons people felt they were voting for Trump, or has anything positive come out of his election.

I think some issues that were swept under the carpet in the West regarding being taboo subjects, like questioning free trade, are now being debated more. And thats a good thing. People dont like hearing of companies moving out of their own country to China.

RFK Jr, the Health Secretary, has some eccentric ideas. But his plan to eliminate petroleum based additives from food sounds like a good idea.
