FT Cork 1-21 to 1-15. We were the better team for 45 mins then completely fell apart for the final 15. it’s like we suddenly froze once Cork piled the pressure on. The keeper kept pucking the ball back into the same area where cork were dominating, a bit of game intelligence lacking. Look, Cork were always going to be the team to beat and we’re still in it with a winner takes all game v Clare next. I think the lads would like another to at Cork because they had them for most of it but just couldn’t close it out.

Good experience for the lads down away from home, some real class on that minor team. They won’t fear cork if they met them again.

Team for the seniors, kiely was the big one that stood out for me. I think he has the potential to really drive on and add something a bit different up there but hasn’t played since Dublin so probably nursing that injury.

I’d have no complaints though, that’s a battle tested team that just needs to be able to manage games a bit more cleverly than previous years and who knows where they could end up. Aussie trotting on for the last 10 mins would send the place into a frenzy.

Hard luck to the minors but all not lost as we have a 'winners take all' next week for a place in the Munster final. We enter in the All Ireland Qualifers if we lose which I think will be against 3rd or 4th in Leinster but could be wrong

So whats the story with the walsh park west end terrace. Is it covered or not.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,876 ✭✭✭914

"A completely revised uncovered western terrace is on the cards, featuring new undercroft spectator facilities"

That said the plans show a roof, maybe it will depend on cost

A bit of cover from the rainstorms would bring in more punters.

Whats the projected capacity for Walsh Park when it's finished?

Decent performance from minor team last night. Disappointing to have been dominated to such an extent for the last quarter though.

I thought Conor Lynch, Jack Power and Jamie Shanahan were excellent. Cork had a clear plan to counter Cormac Spain and we couldn’t get ball to him as a result. Our interplay was very slick at times in tough conditions in the first half.
Cork destroyed our puckout in the second half which will be a worry. Cormac Deane was the best player on the field by a distance. I do wonder if our half back line are giving us enough of a platform to drive on and really rattle this competition.

How’s everyone feeling about tomorrow, does anyone really believe we’ll win? I’d love to be wrong but just don’t see it myself, we’re a weaker team than we were a year ago being without Callum Lyons and Monty whole Clare are AI champions (while also showing last Sunday that their poor league form counts for little).

Trying not to let decency bias cloud any judgement, yes we had a good league but from here on out it’s going to be pure savage.

If we lose tomorrow you’d have to think it’s curtains again for another year as it would be very hard to see us getting at least two wins in the remaining fixtures.

Clare by 5-6 I’d go with.

so it all starts in earnest again tomorrow. Seems like a long time ago now since the defeat in the Gaelic Grounds last summer.

I had a look back on the highlights from the games last years championship on Youtube. To be fair we were agonisingly close. Played brilliantly to beat Cork, also played very well against Clare before losing out in an injury time point to the eventual all Ireland champions. People point to the Tipp game that got away but looking back Tipp did have us on the ropes for long stages of that game, goals kept us in front but in hindsight Tipp were value for their draw in the end. The Limerick game the ship had sailed really you can’t leave it until the last day to try and get a result in the AI champions backyard and fatigue was probably kicking in.

Similarly this year we need to get the business done in the first 3 games. The last game away to Cork in a full PUC is not the game to target.

One standout performer looking back on those games last year was Calum Lyons, stepped up with huge scores at crucial times and can’t understate his loss. You’d hope a fit Aussie back in the fold will counteract that loss. We’ll need all hands on deck over the next 3 weeks.

This match will be the beginning or the end of our campaign and I believe we will win !

Clare won't lack self belief but they are beatable.

Lyons & Monty are not around but Aussie is about to be unleashed.

Hasn't featured for a single second the whole league, so I'd have major doubts about his fitness.

Does anyone know how hes been going in training?

I heard he was going well so fingers crossed he'll feature tomorrow at some point

How we cope with Duggan will say a lot. Can our full back line deal with the high ball, Cork really couldn't handle him in the 2nd half. We are capable of winning and I Donnell is a massive loss for them. We are underdogs but we put in a real performance against Cork last year and were unlucky not to get a draw up in Ennis. Can't be conceding 4 goals against them again though!

    Hi there

I have one spare ticket for sale as one of our group unable to travel.

In new stand - face value 35 euros . Electronic transfer once revolute paid.

Oh and to answer an earlier question

I for one am optimistic about winning tomorrow. So narrowly missed qualification last year. Beat the all ireland finalists well, lost to the all ireland winners by one point and really should have beaten Tipp.

Good team with good honest players and the bit of steel and reality from Queally .

A nice league run in so yes I think Waterford will win tomorrow ,or certainly we have a really good chance to do so .

Hopefully a strong Waterford attendance gets vociferously in behind their team from the start.

Prunty missing for this fixture last year was massive. They ran in from deep and caused our full back line massive trouble.
Hogan vs dessie will be a big battle too.

A decent looking team. If we can get a performance from all of the starting 15, we have a great chance. A huge effort & clever play from Kevin Mahony, Patrick Curran, Darragh Lyons and Ian Kenny just to name a few, could see us over the line, along with the tried & tested spine of the team. We know what most of the team are capable of on a good day, so it will boil down to a lot of great individual performances and a strong game plan, well executed as a team. Hopefully lads will play right to the edge, but within the rules and not let hot-heads get cards for stupid bravado and backchat.

Waterford are capable of winning this one, but everyone will need to have their shoulder to the wheel and hopefully the management have put in place a master-plan based on months of analysis & carefully targeted training. Having an impact from the bench would be a nice bonus, but I would hope that the only need for any subs to come on is due to exhaustion from tireless hassling and harrying, especially from our forwards & midfield stopping Clare getting out of their own half.

There is also a great chance for the management to show that we do not need anyone from outside to win games at this level. The closest we have got to winning an All-Ireland in 61 years was with a homegrown manager, so good luck to all tomorrow & UP da Deise!!

Thinking back on his league performances before he got injured I actually thought Kevin Mahony was struggling for form. He seemed to have lost a bit of confidence, especially in his point taking. He must have shown a lot since returning to have gotten the nod ahead of Shane Bennett.
    Is Peter Hogan injured?

I think Prunty is as good a fit as you could hope for on Duggan. I wonder could Clare try something different even and put Kelly in there who wouldn’t be an ideal match for any of our full back line.

Dawn of another Championship campaign, hopefully this is the year we finally get out of Munster which is our mount everest

Could be the last time we see a few of our great servents line out with some from the 'golden generation'

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,876 ✭✭✭914

Today's game is officially sold out as is cork V Tipp. Hopefully another epic day of Munster hurling and we come out on top.

The Clare crowd spurred on their team in their comeback last week.

Let's not be quiet Waterford supporters today, let's roar our lads on from the very start and give them that lift. UP THE DEISE

Well, the day is finally upon us. Nerves building, hoping we get a good performance and come out the right side of a result for once. I won’t be able to stomach yet another heartbreaking loss.

The very best of luck to Peter and the lads today.

    Up the Deise
