It's such a rare occurrence, it always seems to cause confusion. Why they don't step through it carefully when it happens is beyond me.

Absolute nonsense to have a rule just in case someone might cheat.

I'm aware of the criteria - it going to 14 was not the "telling point" as that is what is supposed to happen in the case of two injuries and no further replacement available. They just forgot/didn't realise the original replacement was a HIA.

It is a, somewhat, needlessly complicated guideline but it should not have taken so long to correct. If anything HIAs are almost easier to feign than normal injuries…

Let's just say he's pretty much single handed transformed the chiefs from coming dead last in super rugby aoteroa (8 losses from 8) under warren gatland in 2020 to being real title contenders in super rugby Pacific now (losing finalists for the last two seasons). He is a culture maker, but is stern and single minded. He comes across publicly as quietly spoken but very serious and no fun, but seemingly he's quite different behind the scenes.

I really like watching the chiefs play currently, they are a great mix of power and finesse, but one thing they absolutely are is very, very quick in their game play. They do not let defenses set. Every possession is an attacking opportunity, either by boot or by offload. I think the likes of Nash, Daly, o Conor, Abrahams, kilgallon etc and the other outside backs will shine in his systems.

Is it clear yet who's over he defense next season?

I mean, you could say that about most of the laws.

All they need is a decision protocol like they have for cards. Just a set of questions for refs to ask their team to determine what happens. It'd take less than a minute, and this stuff wouldn't happen.

That all sounds super positive. I’ve a few NZ based friends who raved about him.

When you list some of the back 3 players, Abrahams, Nash, Kilgallen and Shay McCarthy, we’ve some serious gas there. And Smith too has done well, if we offer him a contract for next season.

Farrell and Nankivel seem to have a growing understanding too so if that can put these guys into open field more often, it’ll be a big positive.

I’m really excited about some of our academy guys, and if we can get Edwin Edogbo back fully fit, he’ll be like a new signing.

Couple that with Milne and Barron arriving early, it should help them bed in ahead of time. Not to write off this season but I’m way more positive about next season on.

Defence-wise, I would’ve assumed Leamy, but can’t stay for certain off the top of my head.

Complete aside, but heard a great stat the other day with regards our d; we’re the 4th best team in Europe for missed tackles not leading to a line-break. That tally’s with the eye-test, we regularly look like we’re scrambling, but don’t seem to be hugely porous.

The scramble element seems to be by design and baked into the system.

Isn't a rule put in place by definition JUST so teams can't cheat?

No one would ever do that…..

Yes top 8 is champions cup next 8 is challenge cup so for the URC all 16 teams always have some form of EPCR action

I hate to say it but we are, for the first time ever, looking at challenge cup next year

I appreciate that but some of the errors I saw today wouldn't be made in the school leagues... Very very basic stuff went wrong on multiple occasions

Codling I think seems all but confirmed, but if so won't be confirmed until after the 6 nations.

    Munster are actually, cursed.

    Its the only explanation

We fight our way back into top 4 contention, get struck down by the plague that takes out our scrum half and affects other players who started despite illness, then fight back to a half time equaliser, then get struck down by systemic referee brain fart disease, again, and suffer another ridiculous injury crisis that screws us for the final few games of the season

thats absolute nonsense. you have not got a clue what you're talking about.

You should actually be ashamed of having made such a ridiculous post

Are you even a Munster fan? We've been in worse positions than this before at this stage of the competition, In fact, the last time we won the URC, we were struggling to make the champions cup and had a very real prospect of playing challenge cup the next season.

We have 3 games left. 3 easier games than that one tonight where we barely lost because of a monumental fuckup by the referee team.

Not to open the usual can of worms, but Frawley or Tector would be great signings to a slot at 12. Wouldn't happen more than likely, but the log jam at Leinster in the centres is ridiculous at the moment.

THP is a bigger concern that getting the 2 named below. Jager is regularly injured and is an dominant as hoped - a return of a forwards coach will help here. After that Ryan on a 1 year deal and the not available Salonoa....the likes of Foxe should have gotten a lot more game time this year.

I appreciate that there was a screw up by the officials, but Munster also had a prop on the bench but they sent on a hooker instead when Archer had to go off - why?

It was explained previously, the player needs to be recorded as capable of playing THP on the listing for officials

Bernard Jackman had the following guidance on X - pretty straight forward guidance for any official to follow tbf.

someone more cynical they I, would suggest thats quite convenient.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,097 ✭✭✭budhabob

But very common...hence why teams have 2 props on the bench.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,709 ✭✭✭✭Red Silurian

I think blaming the result on a ref decision while our players lost their own lineouts at every opportunity they had is clutching at straws

We had an opportunity to win the game at the death but knocked it on!

It’s all on the line for us over the next three final rounds, I wouldn’t want it any other way, this is really exciting now. No guts no glory. Whatever about injuries, whoever puts on the red jersey is under pressure now to secure our place in the playoffs, don’t have the luxury of making excuses it’s do or die time.

We have a massive match lining up for us this Friday evening; Cardiff in Cardiff.
Cardiff are in 6th, 1 point ahead of us in 7th, so this heaps pressure on both teams. They are in financial turmoil right now, playing at home, and we are desperate for a win.
It’s neck and neck around 5th-8th in the table, with a chasing pack of three teams less than 4 points behind us desperate to catch us from 9th to 11th, and Connacht in 12th are only 5 points behind us.
Mathematically the only team out of contention is the Dragons, which means no easy matches, every team will be fighting for wins, at least for the coming round and probably round 17 also. The final round might be interesting, I’d expect there to be two or three spots up for grabs between about 5 or 6 teams on the last round, which will make the final round match-ups very interesting.

I must do an analysis of matches to come to see how it will probably shake out.
We definitely have 3 tough rounds to come as all the teams we will be facing are in or around the top 8 and all will be desperate for points to make the playoffs.

I didn't blame the ref decision on the result, I simply shared the guidance that Refs should be well capable of applying.

I criticized Munster stupid lineout management during the game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,018 ✭✭✭Jump_In_Jack

Because the hooker could offer more around the pitch and due to uncontested scrums it was no longer required to have two props.

I’m a bit annoyed at the Munster officials, they should have been screaming at the match officials immediately when Archer went off. I would have told the players to stop the match until it was properly sorted.
The Munster officials obviously didn’t know the rules either, or they didn’t check what happened with Jager and Archer.

The guideline is any injury to either player in the same front row position caused by foul play, or a sub due to blood or head injury receives no penalty when going to uncontested scrums. Munster should know this stuff, and I’d find it hard to believe the officials would ignore them if they were making a clear point about this at the time.

This is pretty much exactly what I meant when I suggested a protocol to be followed earlier in the thread. This would take seconds for the 4th official to use and relay the outcome to the ref

There's literally no reason to not have implemented something like this by now, after the total confusion that occurs every time this comes up.

This is the key point everyone is missing. Munster management should have known as soon as the situation arose.

Yeah, Munster's scramble has been very good. There's a touch of the Ringrose approach to missed tackles involved - recorded as a missed tackle, but not the full story as it shut down an attack.

@sydthebeat pretty much nailed the description of the Chiefs. I'm genuinely excited to see how Munster develop next season.
