Really not good enough. I'm so pissed for them, and I'm a Leinster fan! Like, yellow card periods decide games these days. Being down a man for no reason other than the officials not knowing what they should know has absolutely affected the outcome of this game. There should be a mechamism to award them points, imo.

Playing 15mins down a man is a joke. Easily cost us the game

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,110 ✭✭✭TomsOnTheRoof

An apology is useless. There's a referee, two assistant ref's and a tmo out there and they still can't get the call right. They butchered the tap which the Bulls scored from too and the high shot on Murray. We were always going to struggle without a lineout but that performance from the officiating team is completely unacceptable.

    Shambles.

Could have huge ramifications for next season with Europe.

    Absolutely shambolic by officials.

Separately, the last few weeks and the amount of injuries. This is season 4 or 5 of this. Can't compete with a 2nd pack out.

    100%

Munster still shot themselves in the foot at times, but I think they'd have won that game if not for the officials making a hames of that. I think in circumstances like that, you should be awarded points as if it was a draw.

That is a pretty farcical situation. I don't so much mind the officials getting it wrong early doors, but it should not be taking 15 minutes for someone to google the WR guidelines and shout down that they got it wrong.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,508 ✭✭✭✭aloooof

I totally agree with the sentiment, and as much as I'd love to see Munster being awarded points, I'm not sure how practical it is. It'd be dis-advantaging other teams in the league thru no fault of their own.

But ya, it's unacceptable and shouldn't happen at this level. I'm pretty sure it's the 2nd time this season something like this has happened to us? We definitely got an apology for something else egregious, I think. Anyone with a better memory than me?

Don’t want to sound too negative, but the injuries and management upheaval have sort of wrote off this season for me. Just hoping we can finish in the table as high up as possible to get a reasonable European draw next year. We don’t have the strength in depth to challenge the league with all these injuries.

One other thing, we need to find a second pivot in the back line. Can’t have Crowley assuming all the kicking duties and along with him needing to play a full 80. It’s verying tiring for him covering the backfield and then up into the attack. He was exhausted by the last 10 minutes, that’s too much responsibility/over reliance on him.

Ah, I don't think it materially disadvantages other teams. It's already significantly disadvantaged Munster through no fault of their own. The fact that the officials also got the quick tap before the Bulls try wrong too makes it all the more galling, given the 3 point difference at full time.

As @Podge_irl says, it shouldn't take that long to figure out. In fact, given it's caused confusion in multiple matches before, why the hell do they not take an extra minute or two to go through it and make sure they have it right before continuing with the game?

    This is rank amatuer stuff.

Brilliant spectacle, don’t worry about the ref mistake, that’s life, but the performance was good, asked lots of questions of the Bulls defence, great team effort and enjoyable 80 minutes of rugby. The intent behind the passing was good, shows the mindset is to probe for space and the conditions were slippery so all in all happy the team are improving and looking good coming into the knockouts.

We were missing Lougman Barron john ryan hodnett coombes Pom casey Nash daly haley. We lost jager and Archer during the game. It's just not sustainable. It is happening again and again. Are other teams like this and I'm just not paying attention?

Lineout and handling we're shocking tonight, anybody who was considering their season tickets next year won't be convinced by this performance

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,110 ✭✭✭TomsOnTheRoof

Well next season we should have a forwards coach who isn't double jobbing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,363 ✭✭✭letowski

To be fair RS, our whole starting front row, back row, back 3 are injured as well as the starting 9 and other cover options They gave it their best shot tonight against a strong Bulls side on a wet day that suited them. I think most supporters will appreciate that.

That's what frustrates me most about the official's mistakes. Apart from some handling, lineout and decision making issues, Munster played some lovely rugby. They deserved more out of that game than they got, and that's in large part down to the officials.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,508 ✭✭✭✭aloooof

Think this is spot on tbh. You could see how knackered Crowley was running back to collect a kick towards the end. Maybe pesimistic after the last 2 weekends, but anything beyond a QF would be a decent outcome at this stage, I think.

I think we felt the absence of Gavin Coombes tbh; absolute must for us in a game like this. Sometimes you just need someone to get you over the gainline, and it makes the next phase easier to get over again.

Thought Tom Ahern was class. Crowley good too. And JOD. We showed some serious desire and scramble at times. We really missed Casey tho. As much as I love Murray, his pass quality just isn’t where it was, let alone close to Casey’s.

Jager won't be available Friday after being out.

Ryan we haven't been told what the issue is. But not around for last few weeks.

Not sure why Archer went off but it's a 6 day turnaround.

    So that's Foxe left.

    Who is next up?

Probably none. Piardi may have been correct in his decision, but misinformed by his own officials.

Munster can correctly feel aggrieved that, on top of multiple other injuries, they were unjustly disadvantaged.

That Munster went to 14 should have been the telling point. It was either 13 or 15 (healy v Scotland in 2023 for example or Ireland v Italy in 2022).

Piardi didnt seen to know Jager went off for HIA as Jackman said after the game. That is something the 4th official should have known at the time and relayed that into Piardi.

It is not either 13 or 15. Had both prop injuries just been "normal" injuries it would have been 14.

Without looking too far into the future, but you have an absolutely cracking new head coach coming in next season. Hopefully he'll be there early enough to bed in his systems.

Is it Top 8 also get Champions Cup rugby? How many spots are Challenge Cup then? Really close around that area of the table, really hope we can see it out from here and for the love of god get no more injuries.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,513 ✭✭✭niallm77

Seen jackmans post with the criteria. The 13 is if one is a card. The 4th official is at fault today. He is the one who records the changes and the reasons for them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 566 ✭✭✭bingobango12

I didn’t see your game, and if some injuries were HIA there is nothing really that can be done, but surely Munster are looking at their S&C team. It can’t be a coincidence anymore the amount of injures you seem to pick up every season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,508 ✭✭✭✭aloooof

What's the skinny on him, Syd? I don't get to see any Super Rugby, but everything I've heard is positive, that he's hardnosed but plays a really good brand, which sounds exactly like what we need.

I think he's got the core of a really good young team to work with; if he can improve things like our lineout and maybe make a signing or 2 in key positions, I'm hopeful of where he can get us to with the players available.

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 8,760 ✭✭✭fitz

He's got the Chiefs playing lovely rugby, imo. I don't know anything about him, really, I watch most of the Super Rugby games, but don't follow things outside of that. I think he could be great for players like Crowley. McKenzie has become far less flakey under him.

Why don't they get rid of the ridiculous rule that makes no sense and nobody understands even the refereeing team.

Because if a team is getting mullered in the scrum they may feign injuries to go uncontested.
