Ah cool, you’ve done your research so. If you’re happy with how she drives then the GT version would be very tempting alright.
Lovely colour on your dad’s car @Buddy Bubs, front end of the EV6 looks great. 👌

Yeah car uses heat pump instead of electrical heaters which have a huge draw on traction battery. They are far more efficient. When certain heating options selected (can't remember which ones) it only drops range by a few kms.

Would something like this be the right device for wireless android auto? Are they generally reliable for signal?

Also, for wired android auto, do you need to plug into the big USB port ? I tried yesterday with a USB-C cable I had in my own car and it didn't seem to give the option anywhere, I only tried for a minute though

Yes the usb c is just for charging devices. You must use the usb A port

    I bought this
https://www.aawireless.io/en/products/aawireless-two - €60. We have them in two cars and you can pair multiple phones to them.

It's got a decent app that connects over BT to configure it. Also it seems to regularly get firmware updates. For me, when driving, Android Auto can 'reboot' in areas of rural bad reception. But it returns to where it was - map directions and music reloads/plays again. Google has recently updated Android Auto a number of times and things have got much better. The other AA dongle in a Nissan is rock solid - same firmware version but using a diff phone. So a combination of versions and my phone. Could well happen with any other dongle.

One benefit of this AA dongle is that it has a button on the side to turn it off. The reason it is so useful to have this, is the EV6 constantly 'wakes' up during charging and at other times to check into Kia online via the car's mobile SIM. Every time it does that the USB port is powered up, the dongle activates and your phone will connect to the car if close….Constantly switching, which is annoying as it drops to mobile data and notifies each time.
(There is an option to set the dongle to only allow a connection when the phone's Bluetooth is also connected to the car - but this seems to not work very well).

Thanks that's what i thought, I've only ever had wireless myself and didn't have a USB A cable with me. I'll give it another go today or tomorrow

Sounds good thanks, I'm going to try wired today and depending on how happy he is with that I'll try wireless maybe

Yes it's one of the very few major downers with the car.

Got it working OK, first cable wouldn't for some reason the second one did

Have this device and it's pretty good. Didn't know about the power button on it, yes can be annoying when phone tries to connect when in house. Thanks

I might order this today. Amazon have a few devices but lots of the 1 star reviews are people coming back who were initially happy but then the device became problematic after a few weeks. Is this one is solid enough in the ev6?

Agreed a deal on a 2024 car today and with a bit of luck might have it for the weekend. :)

If ur talking about the AA wireless device then yes it's excellent, connects every time in EV6! Good luck with the car 👌👍

Yes sorry I thought I quoted one of the posts making reference to the AA wireless two device, but I didn't so my post wasn't very clear.

Cheers I'll go ahead and order.

haven’t seen you on herein a long time!

Did you go with the full fat GT model?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,404 ✭✭✭vintagevrs

Since that update years ago I just dropped using the site but I'm still knocking about.

Yep, went for the GT model. Test drove it yesterday and it's a nice place to be in. The performance is almost too much and will likely rarely be used once the novelty wears off. The interior is really what sold me.

This is probably a "how long is a piece of string" question, but here goes.

I bought an EV6 last summer, just short of 25,000 Km on the clock (222 reg).

It now has 45,000 Km on it. Is there a mileage point at which it is optimum to trade?

The main thing on my mind is if the resale value will drop precipitously as i get closer to the end of the 100,000 Km guarantee. By this time next year, i could have 70,000 Km on it.

Kia covers the components of a new Kia car for 84 months/150,000 kilometers, from the date of first registration.

It’s still got pretty average mileage for a 3 year old car and 70K Km’s on a 4 year old car next year isn’t really out of the ordinary either. Annual depreciation eases off with each year as the car gets older. Essentially the point I’m trying to make is the cheapest model of ownership entails keeping your current EV6 as long as possible. You’re probably at a point where the likes of a KIA Main Dealer may not retail it anyway and it would be offloaded to a trader.

    Thanks.

My way of working with ICE cars has always been to keep it until it more or less went bust. Before the KIA, i had a mondeo that was 11 years old and had ~180,000 miles (290,000 Km).

I thought that i would need a different model with an electric car, because the battery would degrade significantly as it gets older (therefore not much use to me as i have a fairly long commute) and at that point i would find it hard to sell.

Hopefully hold onto this a while, really liking the interior so far. The wireless android adapter is working a treat too. So far so good!

Lovely car, best of luck with it. I've only driven EVs in the 200 to 400bhp range and not performance focused i cant even imagine what that one feels like to accelerate

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,404 ✭✭✭vintagevrs

First impressions are it's too much almost. Also the lack of normal speed indicators like an engine mean it almost confuses the senses. You could very easily have passengers feeling green very quickly. Eco mode is where I expect it'll spend most of its time.

I've given people the yips in 6 seconds to 100kmph EVs with the instant torque when they're not used to it, I'd say this one could really get them queasy. Same colour as one my dad got, think it's called gravity blue, very nice colour on the ev6.

I’d hate to see them in my old car. 762bhp, launch control and 0-60 in 2.6 seconds! 🚗💨

It’s a fun experience alright and as you say, occupants are caught completely off guard.

Not needed every day but nice to know it’s there when you want it.

really like these cars on GT spec. Well wear @vintagevrs

Congrats. I love the contrast of the green calipers. Do you notice much of a reduction in acceleration as the battery discharges? Is acceleration fairly consistant down to 20-30%?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,404 ✭✭✭vintagevrs

I havnt had the battery that low yet and would imagine it would only maybe be noticeable if you were in GT mode and flooring it.

Whilst doing some more reading I found this article which shows how much the state of charge impacts the performance.

    https://www.motortrend.com/reviews/2022-kia-ev6-wind-awd-yearlong-review-update-2-faster-than-ev6-gt/

    Good to know I guess.

This guy also does some interesting stuff with the car including buying a device for the car that makes it almost self driving, interesting tech, not sure id be comfortable with it mind.

In this video he data logs the car. I didn't realise but there's an option to pre condition the battery for max power out put. From an odb reader he reckons the motors are pulling 645bhp, which is in line with the ionic 5N.

    Doubt I'll ever try it.

Seems EV performance will improve on hot days l, which is the opposite of the turbo charged stuff I've come from.

Hi folks, I spotted a 2022 GT Line at a decent price today and I'm tempted to make some very bad decisions 😁

Couple of questions before I do anything silly

    • I'd need to take a roof box a few times a year. I know the car has no roof rails so has anyone tried the roof bars that attach to the door. I'm a bit nervous about them
    • The mileage is quite high at 130,000km. Am I right in saying the battery warranty is up at 160,000km? I'm not particularly worried about degradation but I wonder if it's a good negotiating point
    • On that same topic, there's another one available for €4k more with 100,000km on the clock. While I prefer the red over white, I'm not sure it's worthwhile as I doubt I'll get €4k more in resale later on
    • Does the battery warranty being out affect the rest of the 7 year warranty?
    • I seem to remember I can transfer the warranty between garages since the seller is a lot further away than my nearest KIA garage, anyone have experience of this
    • Does the 2023 GT Line have the heat pump?
    • Same question for Auto steering (lane following, not lane keeping)
    • Anything else to watch out for?

    Thanks in advance!
