Hi folks, I spotted a 2022 GT Line at a decent price today and I'm tempted to make some very bad decisions 😁

Couple of questions before I do anything silly

    • I'd need to take a roof box a few times a year. I know the car has no roof rails so has anyone tried the roof bars that attach to the door. I'm a bit nervous about them
    • The mileage is quite high at 130,000km. Am I right in saying the battery warranty is up at 160,000km? I'm not particularly worried about degradation but I wonder if it's a good negotiating point
    • On that same topic, there's another one available for €4k more with 100,000km on the clock. While I prefer the red over white, I'm not sure it's worthwhile as I doubt I'll get €4k more in resale later on
    • Does the battery warranty being out affect the rest of the 7 year warranty?
    • I seem to remember I can transfer the warranty between garages since the seller is a lot further away than my nearest KIA garage, anyone have experience of this
    • Does the 2023 GT Line have the heat pump?
    • Same question for Auto steering (lane following, not lane keeping)
    • Anything else to watch out for?

    Thanks in advance!

That's very high mileage, maybe have another think about it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,028 ✭✭✭✭the_amazing_raisin

True, I'm guessing the asking price of €28k reflects that

Tbh I'm not particularly worried about mileage, the cars seem to weather age reasonably well

I was just reading there that the main warranty is up at 150,000km which would be a bit concerning

I wonder if I should chance my arm and offer €25k 😅

I'd say you'd be in a very strong bargaining position there if you're not worried about the mileage but personally I would be concerned about that battery warranty and your trade-in value when you go to change.

    Yeah it's a bit of a conundrum

If I spend €4k more I get a car with 100,000km on the clock, same 2022 GT Line

So that's probably enough to cover my driving for 3-4 years at which point the warranty will be nearly done anyway

But if less than €4k of stuff goes wrong then I spent the extra money for nothing

Maybe try and get the smaller mileage car for €30k- sure they can only say no?

True, I'm starting to think my eyes might have lit up before my brain-cells here. I'll sit back and have a think about it

I wouldn't be worried about battery degradation on the ev6 over 100,000kms but the battery warranty will be an issue over 160k. As I'm aware it's 150000km or 7 on years which ever comes first on car and body etc.. And 160k on battery. The warranty transfers from garage/previous owner, it moves with the car from date of first registration. The GT line has a heat pump and lane assist auto steer HDA all the bells and whistles in fairness. Lots of features, if you do go with an ev6 you won't be disappointed!

All kia warranty ends when you hit 150,000km as far as I know. You then risk simple things like door handles costing a fortune to repair or trying to get secondhand parts or non dealer repair. Fine if you have access to a spare car or can do without for weeks or willing to hire a car but high risk with high hassle. That said I am driving a Kia out of warranty I bought cheap.

Does the EV6 have battery preconditioning? Will be public charging on Saturday or Sunday this weekend

Yes but it will only turn on if you use the onboard navigation set to the ev station you are going too.

Yes it should. I've had it not work a couple of times and not sure why. But it should basically kick in around 10-20 minutes before you arrive at the charger. You will see the little coil sign on the battery on the dash and a little message will pop up.

If you want to test it and you have a charging station within around 5km of your house you can turn the car on in the driveway and navigate to the charging station( you don't need to drive). Then just wait for between 2-5 minutes and it should kick in.

These things can charge! Very impressed with these speeds. Stayed up close to 200kwh all the way to 80%

You won’t be long dropping €40-€50 into that .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,490 ✭✭✭Buddy Bubs

Plugged in at 2% SOC and was up to 80% in just over 20 mins. I suppose it's would have been €40 anyway. Very rare occurrence to public charge so didn't mind too much.

I would have been an extra 15 mins or so in my VAG car getting same charge.

It’s a pity Freshmile aren’t competitive in Ireland anymore, their pricing model would work well with that EV6.

Yes, it used to be something 25c/30c per minute and 25c/30c per kWh simultaneously. A clever way to discourage idiots from charging to 100% when not needed. Unfortunately Freshmile prices took a massive leap last year. Last time I checked Ionity with Freshmile was 85c per kWh and ESB at J14 was 70c per kWh + 15c per min.

Freshmile were my go to for a while - their pricing averaged out at about €0.42/kwh (€.030/kwh + €0.30/min) on ESB 200Kw chargers if you had preconditioned. No more unfortunately since they increased prices a few months back.

Ask if the ICCU was replaced and also check the 12v battery.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 438 ✭✭vinniem

Iccu does not always needs replacing, sometimes just a fuse replacement and or SW upgrade. So you need to know if car was subject to iccu recall and if so was it done.

Got OTR infotainment/maps update yesterday (MY23) message popped up on screen to see what's new but driving so couldn't look. Got a chance to look this morning but can't see any changes, does anyone know what's new with this May 25 update?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 292 ✭✭bootser

Just posting for info, in case it helps anyone else! I noticed my mini touchscreen (radio/heating controls etc.) not switching off a couple of weeks ago, (at the time wasn't sure if that was the norm tho?) didn't think too much about it.

Then had a few occasions of zombie mode😬 until the other day the car acted weird for OH then died. I had to jump it with the booster and it came back 100%normal, mini touch screen switching off with the car etc. Since then no zombie mode either and its been a couple of weeks.

So, if anyone notices that mini screen staying on when they get out I'd recommend disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes to avoid zombie mode and 12v battery dead issue.

    Hopefully this helps someone!!

Funny you mention as I was thinking there was one due. I did get a new 'approve these terms and conditions' message for Kia Connect on the car the other day, which I haven't seen for months. Also impossible to agree when driving (as tells you as wants to display text) but then it disappears…genius. That made me look online (plus check the USB download tool) but neither have any 2025 update listed. The USB download is still dated 26/07/2024 - same as my car.
I heard there was due a April MY22-24 update, so perhaps it's started and the website/USB downloader SW has not been updated. My car is set to OTA, but it could take some time to prompt me as it's a 23Gb download….

Be interesting to see if they changed the 80kph L rural roads to 60kph.

The new MY25 model has a March 2025 update, which is on the website and can be downloaded.

Yeah definitely an update as went into SW revision screen and says update dated 7/5/25. But ur right it updates when driving and asks do you want to see changes which is impossible.. Matlybe Koreans use different logic to us 😂

Is there a way to make the heating controls be the default every time the car is turned on? Rather than the infotainment/radio controls. I think i read somewhere this can be given priority but can't seem to find it now.

    Asking for a parent!

    Using AI for your query:

You absolutely can set the climate control screen to be the default display when you turn on your Kia EV6. Here's how:

    * Locate the dual-purpose panel: Below the main infotainment screen, you'll find a touch-sensitive bar that can display either media/navigation controls or climate controls. On the left side of this panel, there's a button that switches between these two modes.

    * Access the default setting: Press and hold this mode-switching button.

    * Select "Climate": A pop-up menu will appear on the infotainment screen asking you to choose the default mode. Select "Climate Control".

    * Confirmation: Once you've selected "Climate Control," the system will save this as your default. Now, every time you start your Kia EV6, the climate control interface will be the first thing displayed on that lower panel.

This setting ensures that you have immediate access to your heating and ventilation controls as soon as you power on your vehicle.
