it doesn’t get topped up from the main battery enough seems to be the issue. I had a main battery at almost 100 % on Monday last but 12v had died .

There seems to be a flaw in the top up logic that kia use to monitor the 12v .

The car is simply completely dead .

You need to release the manual key from the fob , open the drivers door and pop the bonnet .
Then use jump leads or those little battery boost box and start the car . Then once the car is started you can drive as you wish . But you may have to repeat the process if you turn off the car .
I had my battery replaced Monday .
    that's my 3rd battery on a 2022 .
I even ensure I don’t use remote defrost unless I’m plugged in and other such notions to protect the 12v ( in my opinion) but it still only lasted 13 months .

I've asked someone else already who had dead 12vdc battery.. Have you had ICCU recall? This is a known issue with EV6, ICCU logic is flawed causing 12vdc to die. I always remote defrost mine not plugged in, no issue.

I'd be leaving it at the dealer until they fix it. Dig your heels in. 3 batteries in 3 years is ridiculous. As @vinniem said, the ICCU is probably faulty. There's a major recall on it. It's possible your VIN was not included in those identified as being effected but that doesn't mean it's not faulty.

It does get topped up from the HV battery, in the same way a 12v gets topped up from the engine through the alternator in an ICE car.

But sometimes these things fail, in both fuel cars and that’s when you need the jump leads or a battery booster.

Always keep the jump leads in the car if you own a Hyundai or Kia EV in my experience. I always keep a set in the ICE and have a booster pack in the boot of the other car at all times. You just never know.

Anyone have any issues with the regen braking? Doesn't seem as effective recently, and definitely not as effective as a Niro EV I drove a few days ago.

Have the paddle set to max, and the smart recuperation set to strongest too under EV settings. Anything I might be missing?

    Thanks

yes all the updates are done , especially ICCU , was careful to get those done .

I’m fighting my corner with the dealer and they replaced the first 2 but it’s a hassle getting out there during work hours , taking time off work etc

Easier to replace yourself once you know what it is & then argue with dealer later .

Plus the drama getting stranded with wifey & 2 kids in car .

Are you in auto by any chance? Take a look at the bottom left corner.

Was your battery at 100% by any chance? Does it work when in ipedal?

Battery well short of 100, maybe 50ish now.

Are max/i pedal not the same? It works, but not very effective

Ipedal is very strong and will stop the car entirely pretty quickly. Is it doing that? It also says ipedal above the little battery symbol. A little beep will happen when you turn it on. Has it been working correctly until now?

I pedal is on but not stopping it as quickly as you say, I would guess it might be 20-30% of the braking force if you were to jam on the brakes.

I dont think it was ever that strong, but don't have the car long so didn't know any better. Thanks for your help anyway, i think I'll take it in to get checked

My pedal/ max regen is fairly strong and will stop car (on flat) pretty fast as another user said. Maybe you should drop it into Kia and get them to look at?

Any thoughts on a 2024 low millage GT (AWD version) vs a new face lifted model? Considering both of these as next car and keep swinging between both.

I suppose if it's at least 10k cheaper it's worth considering the older model if specs are like for like. It'll certainly be used in dealers favour being an old model and a year older come trade in time.

If you plan to keep long term and the price difference is big for you then another consideration

Also take into account financing costs, is there 0% available on used car? Kia also bundling a charger installation if you buy from them which is worth the best part of 1500/2000

I'm collecting an 2025 EV6 with my father at 1 pm today, Earth special edition run out model of the old version

It’s a head v heart decision. A new facelift car is the sensible choice but if the GT is mint and similar money, it’s the one to have. A proper wolf in sheep’s clothing. Check that insurance isn’t an issue in advance if going with the GT.

Yep sales guy told me they can't sell them because of insurance problems. He had a nice one there and said its going to end up going sub 60k he feels

Yeah it's the full fat GT. I haven't seen it yet but it's a bit of head/heart decision.

It has nicer seats, sun roof and a few other styling bits not to mention the power hike and 4wd.

The newer car is the updated model so bigger battery and better range already as it's "only" 220bhp or whatever the power is on them.

Both can avail of the finance and charger offers from Kia which surprised me as I assumed that would be new stock only.

Both cars are priced pretty much the same. According to this

    https://www.kia.com/ie/dealer/fortmotorskia/new-cars/ev6-gt/discover/

It retailed at 85k when new, but doubt it really did.

I think you have the facts straight and you know the pros and cons of each car. I'd love one of those GTs but I can't see the point really, great fun flooring it the odd time but that's it. Styling is nice, but they are all nice.

Plus if you do want to get rid of it the market is very small

Just back from collecting this with my dad

    Nice one.

The resale value on the GT is the unknown factor, well, more unknown. It's already taken a massive chunk of new rrp but not sure how much that curve will flatten if at all in future.

Good luck with the new motor.

Apart from insurance I cant see much reason not to go for the full fat GT if thats your thing, should still be very reliable like the rest of them and wont have crazy running costs like a performance petrol car. Even if insurance is a little bit tasty even still its a small enough part of the overall cost, once you can get cover in the first place.

@vintagevrs Not to put you off or anything, but had you seen this review already? It's a year old at this stage but his main gripes were no electric seating, side bolstering digging into his leg and it wasn't much fun the corners. That last one would bother me if it's supposed to be a sporty type car, if it just felt like a heavy unpredicatable lump in the bends then I'm not sure I'd pay a premium for it. But it does look pretty cool outside and in to be fair.

Well wear to ur dad, he's got a fantastic motor.. Good choice 👍👍

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,404 ✭✭✭vintagevrs

Cheers for that, yeah I've watched almost all the reviews at this stage.

Im not expecting it to be a blast on back roads or anything, my impression of it is that's it's just a sledgehammer of power. The novelty of which may wear off quite quickly, but would still be nice to have.

Ill just have to make a call on it when it arrives and see. Manual seats is not an issue but if they are uncomfortable that's a different story.

In it's favour is first year depreciation has already happened, loads of power and loads of options/bells.

Against it, less efficient and more expensive to run. 21" Michelin tires for example. Newer car is a brand new and maybe more refined with new infotainment etc.

Thanks, I'd say it'll be the last car he ever buys ! Better like it

I had a bit of a rundown with him on it, delighted to have physical dials back again for heating and volume etc

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 479 ✭✭vinniem

Yeah the volume/heat dials are great, and now all ev6s have heatpumps as standard makes them even better 👍

How is the heatpump operated? Is it just that you use heating controls as normal but the car will use the heatpump to generate the heat rather than battery?

I did see a button on the panel right in the middle that just said HEAT.
