Jaysus. I don't think you are even being honest with yourself anymore. Mistakes eh...have you seen any photos of Gaza? Mistakes around destroying all hospitals? Mistakes around starving the population? Do you know anything about IHL?

    And vanish...

Mistakes?? So cutting off food, water, electricity and medicine was a mistake? Jesus. Shooting dead 15 aid workers and burying their bodies, ambulances etc in a shallow grave was a mistake? Bombing hospitals, schools, UN depots etc etc ….. all mistakes?

I wonder would a similar "Mistake" be as easily accepted and forgiven had the parties been reversed?

There'd be rightful outrage if the headline read:

Hamas shoot 15 aid workers and bury their bodies along with the ambulances in a shallow grave. Despite video showing the ambulances approach with flashing beacons; Hamas said "we weren't sure who they were". But we possibly just made a mistake. Before condemning us, there should be an independent and impartial investigation into the circumstances in which these paramedics died, but that will be conducted in due course—not on your timeline.

There's plenty on here who continuously simplistically equate the criticism of Israeli military action as tantamount support for Hamas and/or terrorism.

This is a plain example of state sanctioned terrorism being covered up but the mental gymnastics and 'whatabourtery' continues unchallenged by the usual posters who'll skulk about until they can justify Israeli retribution a bit more.

The hipocrisy of Palestinian deaths v Israeli deaths plus the atrocities not resulting in death is evident and sickening.

Israelis are wailing and gnashing their teeth day in and day out about hostages being starved by Hamas. Palestinian child, starved to death in an Israeli prison - crickets.

Israelis disgusted and outraged at alleged sexual violence by Hamas on Oct 7th. Palestinian prisoner raped with an iron bar - tumbleweed.

UN offered an independent investigation of sexual violence by Hamas as long as Israel allowed them also to investigate sexual violence against Palestinians. Israel declined both. Surprise.

I looks like whenever a "mistake" happens, the IDF lie about it unless and until they are caught. Even then, they never come out and admit it. It makes me think that many of these incidents were not actual mistakes at all.
i wouldn't be surprised if the IDF murdered those 15 medics knowing full well what they were doing. Whether they were Hamas or just plain Palestinians, makes no difference. They were the "enemy".

Israel went into berserker mode months ago and have totally lost the plot of what it means to be a "democracy". Nihilistic dictatorship seems closer to the truth.

After 1000+ air force servicemen called for an end to the war, 250 in the elite intelligence unit are doing the same.

The pressure is building within Israel to stop the Genocide and War Crimes.

    I hope it works…

Some good news for a change -

"France plans to recognise a Palestinian state within months and could make the move at a UN conference in New York in June on settling the Israel-Palestinian conflict, president Emmanuel Macron said in an interview broadcast on Wednesday."

Ridiculous this is a joint favourite for Eurovision.

Even worse is the censorship on the comments section. I can't understand how they are not banned, like Russia.

They aren't in Europe either, same goes for Australia. Palestine will never be asked to participate you can be sure.

Another propaganda song from Israel, allowed to grandstand to an audience of a billion people.

'Where have you gone Joe DiMaggio? A nation turns It's lonely eyes to you.'

Finally, if being a member of the press corps in Gaza is a death sentence, as you claim, I would argue that Israel is acting in the best interests of the international press by restricting access to Gaza. Or would you prefer to see members of the Western press dying because of Hamas's actions, simply because it would benefit the anti-Israel narrative?

So its OK to hide the truth by keep those seeking the truth out of the area under the guise of keeping them safe?

Israel is acting on its own interests by keeping what is actually going on in Gaza (a genocide) from the rest of the world by not letting the press in.

Still refusing to answer my question I asked you a few pages ago I see!!!

Pretending war crimes are happening there doesn't make it so, looking at the updated casualties, it's young fighting men that are being hit back by the IDF.

Technology and modern intel sourcing are making this one of the cleaner wars, it doesn't mean its nice or good, it just means that they are being very successful in targeting Hamas and limiting casualties as much as they can, that's not fool proof but the effort is there and most armies wouldn't even try .

The war ends the day the Gazans want it to will that day ever come?

That is literally one of the most ridiculous things I’ve read on this thread. I normally don’t comment, as there is really no point arguing with the Israeli zealots, but Jesus Christ, this takes the biscuit. From “pretend war crimes” to “young fighting men” being hit, to “one of the cleaner wars”. I’d say you couldn’t make it up, except you just did.

    Ah, I get you.

So that explains the 500 kids Hamas Terrorists "neutralised" since 18th March.

Anyone justifying, defending, supporting Israel's campaign in Gaza, which has resulted in the murder of over 50,000 women and children, is devoid of any humanity and in my opinion, a disgrace.

That anyone would support the cold-blooded murder of 15 medics with the IDF lying through their teeth about what happened is equally abhorrent.

Folks might remember the apoplectic outrage when anyone questioned if either the IDF had killed Israelis on Oct 7th or questioned those reports of babies in microwaves, babies sliced out of their mother's wombs or babies beheaded. Yet when 15 medics are murdered, or 500 kids are killed in the space of 24 days (that's one child per hour, every hour), we get utterly disgusting comments on how restrained the IDF are.

The IDF restraint is as visible as their ability to tell the truth.

When this is over, those people should look in the mirror and hang their heads in utter shame. Just like German civilians did when the horrors of the Holocaust were revealed in full.

A fairly long report from the BBC. Here's a snippet (hint - Israel has broken every single Convention):

On Tuesday the UN secretary general warned that Israel's blockade of Gaza was violating the Geneva Conventions and the territory was becoming a "killing field". On Monday the heads of six UN aid agencies appealed to the world to act to save the people of Gaza, and to uphold basic international law.

The Geneva Conventions are founded on the following principles:

    1. Medical staff and hospitals in warzones must be protected and allowed to work freely
    2. Those wounded in battle and no longer fighting are entitled to medical treatment
    3. Prisoners of war must be treated humanely
    4. Warring parties are obliged to protect civilians (this includes a prohibition on the targeting of civilian infrastructure such as power and water supplies).

Against my better judgement but this is just pure and unaldultered justification of slaughter, war crimes and genocide and for what exactly?

A strategy can be a mistake if it blows up in your face, and this certainly seems to have done so.

That said, Israel's underlying geopolitical problems would be beyond horrifying regardless.

Complete nonsense. Destroying most buildings in Gaza, Targeting health facilities and healthcare workers, Bombing tents and refugee camps. Preventing aid, food, water and utilities as part of collective punishment. Children never get over malnutrition in their younger years - a lifetime of impacts if they survive. You are defending war crimes, evil and utter cowardice. I'd be suspect of your moral compass. Stupid muslims only have themselves to blame eh...

More on those dead paramedics -

"The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) unit involved in the killings of 15 Palestinian paramedics and rescue workers in the Gaza Strip last month was under the command of a brigade led by a notorious Israeli general previously accused by some of his own troops of having “contempt for human life”.

During the Rafah attack, the Golani troops were under the command of the reservist Armoured 14th Brigade. The 14th Brigade is part of a division led by Brig Gen Yehuda Vach, who former officers say designated an unofficial “kill zone” elsewhere in the strip which resulted in the arbitrary killings of Palestinian civilians. Soldiers also alleged Vach’s “lack of operational discipline” endangered soldiers’ lives.

Vach has also told troops “there are no innocents in Gaza”, according to an investigation by the Israeli daily Haaretz."

Vach was responsible for the Netzarim Corridor and was the key subject of the Haaretz report which uncovered utter brutality.

Vach ordered that anyone who was on a bicycle was a terrorist and to be immediately killed.

He appeared to be very disturbed. Clearly, some of his soldiers were the same. Though others did report the brutality (and war crimes)

The Haaretz report said Israeli soldiers spoke to the newspaper so that the Israeli "people need to know how this war really looks like, and what serious acts some commanders and fighters are committing inside Gaza. They need to know the inhuman scenes we're witnessing".

The Srebrenica massacre was the deliberate killing of 5,000 prisoners in a few days. The difference is that Hamas hides behind civilians and thus that the killing of civilians in the IDF operation in Gaza is incidental and thus not even a war crime, let alone genocide.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,204 ✭✭✭political analyst

I used prosecution in English criminal law as an analogy (You know what 'analogy' means, right?!) for genocide cases taken against countries at the ICJ. For example, the prosecution of police officer Martyn Blake on the charge of the murder of Chris Kaba is an analogy for the prosecution of Israel by South Africa at the ICJ. Blake was acquitted.

There's no comparison between the Philippines and Israel. The difference is that Israeli police officers, unlike the Filipino counterparts, do not execute unarmed suspects. Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid condemned the ICC arrest warrants. Therefore, Lapid, if he becomes prime minister after the next general election, won't hand Netanyahu and Gallant over to the ICC - and neither would anyone else who could succeed Netanyahu as prime minister.

There's a difference between handing over accused political or military leaders to an international court that the country of which those persons are citizens and that country extraditing a citizen who is wanted in another country for actions that are crimes in the eyes of the law of the country that is seeking the extradition, e.g. the Malka Leifer case.
