Sorry for the repeated questions, but are GAI under the same obligation as Busconnects set out to transition to a low emissions fleet by the 2030's like DB?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 19,668 ✭✭✭✭LXFlyer

The plan will affect the entire PSO fleet so yes - but as to when, well that’s down to the companies and the NTA.

That's what I meant - that the replacement Busconnects routes would be operated by Go Ahead, not that the 7 or 123 would be briefly going there. Apparently the 73 will be interworked with the S4. Not sure if that means drivers will be jumping from one to the other, or if they'll simply be on the same roster, as is currently the case with the S4 and the S6/S8.

I saw someone talking about the poor performance from Donnybrook as of recent, particularly with the 4 and the 7’s. Can attest to the fact that over the past three times within the past week I’ve had to wait over 20 minutes for one of the three at lunch time.

A little update from DB side

Should the 150 be on that list also or has there been a change recently? Thanks

    I haven't heard anything yet

28th of September is a very long wait for the F-Spine. This probably means the D-Spine or the Route O will be the next phase after that one in 2026 unless there is an update for the O either from the NTA or from the unions; it would be good to hear it from them. It's probably necessary to keep it out this long for the F routes to come out on that date because the infrastructure works for the O & for the S2 at Steeven's Lane is going to a take a fairly long while to get addressed in the interim. The passengers going in & out of the Phoenix Park using the 11/b are not going to be happy with more possible delays with rolling out the O in the near future. I would say they will get frustrated that it won't be coming anytime soon.

Yeah it does seem like there's one or two southside BC routes that you'd expect to start alongside the F spine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,679 ✭✭✭VG31

Surely the 123 isn't being removed in this phase? The 73 would have to start for that to happen. There's no real overlap with the F spine anyway.

The 73 is going to be operated by GAI.

The union notice only concerns Dublin Bus operated routes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,679 ✭✭✭VG31

Thanks, I forgot GAI will be operating radial routes.

Bear in mind, the 82 only covers off the 150 routing between Rossmore→Crumlin Village. Until the 71 launches (presumably with the D-spine), the 150 will still be required to retain the current Crumlin Village→City Center service

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,855 ✭✭✭p_haugh

If GAI are indeed operating the 73, that will be their first time operating a proper cross-city service.

The O will not assist in the case of 11 relief except for those wanting to change to a northbound bus at Phibsboro. ( or vv of course for a E spine to change to go along the NCR ) which is fine if you want to go to DCU etc . those of us who live there along the NCR want to go to town . And even in the case of changing look at the phibsboro stop layout for NCR→Northbound E ( long light wait to get across New Cabra road then long walk round to front of Phibsboro shopping centre , and going the other direction cross phibsboro road then long walk along NCR. hardly joined up.

If there is genuinely new traffic from the O thats a thing but it will have no buslanes ( and none are planned in BC infra works) on the northside at all except a bit out the front of the Mater and a teeny bit on parkgate st

Does anyone know if the 11 will be withdrawn post 'O' launch ? As we've mentioned here it is not part of the BC route set.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 328 ✭✭DaBluBoi

Northern branch would very likely be gone with launch of O, though whole route is to stay till very last phase where it gets replaced by 86

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,921 ✭✭✭mikeybhoy

I could see the 86 being extended to the Park to keep a city centre service on the NCR

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,917 ✭✭✭john boye

Yeah I figured that, I just kinda expected the 71 to launch with the F-Spine.

Speaking of Crumlin Village - City Centre, It's still odd that the 82 is only going to Merrion Square and not near the CC. At least the 19 going to Parnell Square in the plans could still be sold as going to town. Will be interesting to see if there's any pushback on it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,855 ✭✭✭p_haugh

Same for the 81 actually (although it continues to Ringsend Road after serving Merrion Square). I suppose the logic is to somewhat limit the buses going through the College Green choke point? Wouldn't be surprised if there's a change to that routing though

The section of the NCR that has lost its direct service into town is what happens when you “straighten” out the routes.

You are very close to town, like very close compared to most. Services are maintained albeit not as good as before. A high frequency “circle” service is coming in.

For the able bodied, it’s a stroll into town or down to other services. You aren’t on the edge of nowhere. You are in the middle of the North City.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 227 ✭✭Fizzy Duck

The 40N referred to in the notice is the 40. As it is the Northside stub of the previous cross city 40.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,352 ✭✭✭trellheim

so why are there full buses all the time on the route ? There were full buses on the 46a and the NTA said "we do not care" and cut it for the 11 and theres still full buses of people who want to go to town → not to phibsboro - but to town. Crayoning to straighten out a route looks great on paper but it was one of the original tram routes for a reason.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 908 ✭✭✭loco_scolo

Was the 40 not always starting at Earlsfort terrace? I think 40N is referring to the nightlink. I get the 40 regularly and, for at least a few years, there has only been the 40 (to Earlsfort), 40B (to OCS) and 40D (to Parnell).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 19,668 ✭✭✭✭LXFlyer

It’s probably an internal designation, bearing in mind that it’s a document for union members.

The 40 was previously Liffey Valley-Finglas until the G-Spine phase launched.

As posted above, the 150 cannot be removed without the 71 and 72 being in place, as otherwise there would be no service along the roads that it serves between Crumlin Village and Cork Street.

Having thought about it, what I suspect will happen (and I stress that this is just my guess!) is that until the 71/72 launch as part of the D-Spine phase, the 150 will be re-routed along Kimmage Road West and Lorcan O'Toole Park to terminate at the current 83 terminus at Stannaway Avenue with the F2 and 82 covering the southern end of the 150 route.

With the removal of the of the Dame Street - College Green routing from the network alongside the introduction of the new pedestrian plaza, there are going to have to be compromises as there simply won't be the capacity that there is today through College Green.

Once the network changes are implemented there will be the A, E and F Spines and the 19 and 85 passing along the north/south routing outside Trinity College alongside the Green Line LUAS (although post-A Spine phase implementation, it might be possible to re-route the 19 southbound via Townsend Street and Westland Row).

The Quays will have significantly more buses using them when the D-Spine, 71, 72 and 73 are added to that routing, so there are limits to what can be added there.

That's why you will have most of the radials using the Gardiner Street routing and Westland Row instead of O'Connell Street.

I have seen a suggestion that the 82 will actually be extended beyond Merrion Square to serve the new development at the Glass Bottle factory site in Irishtown which would mean operating via Pearse Street.

    We will see!

Good point on the Glass Bottle site, those apartments are coming up very quickly! The S2 will be a handy connection for residents there, but it could definitely do with some more connections.

there's been talk of accelerating the delivery of the Luas extension to Poolbeg. In the meantime how about extending the S2 over the Eastlink to connect with the Northside routes and the Luas at the Point? Main issue might be how congested the Eastlink is at rush hour though.

I've complained before about the lack of crosstown bus services down that end of the city, there isn't a single bus route over the Eastlink, and it's a really pedestrian-unfriendly connection if you want to walk across to Irishtown.

I wonder what routes will be re-routed (/created) to serve the Grand Canal Dock section of the ringsend CBC once thats built, currently the BC network redesign doesn't envisage any routes going that way (other than the 60 terminating in GCD of course).

DCC really need to pull the finger out and build a public transport + walking/cycling bridge down that end.

I've never understood why DCC waisted millions on the stupid Rosie Hackett Bridge which is right next to the very wide O'Connell Bridge, while this end of the river was in much greater need of a new bridge. Yes, I know the Luas and some buses are on the Rosie Bridge, but those could have just as easily been on OCB and it would have made the Green Line much better.
