Irish media is terrible for reporting on a story once and then there is no follow up and it is never mentioned again. What was the outcome?

I'm thinking yesterday I’m due or overdue a healthcare appointment. 50 mins ago my phone vibrates, it’s a message from the practitioners advising me Ive been scheduled for this appointment now on Tuesday at 11am. Less than 48 hours notice.

Sounds like a cancellation and someone decided to fit me in..no problem with that…ok…. However I DO expect considering the very short notice that they might have picked up the phone, called me and just asked if it was suitable and if I can make it.. as opposed to just , ‘ your next appointment IS ‘…

So AI is all powerful, its so smart!

Samsung tell me my phone is AI enabled.

So how come it thinks, for some mad reason, that I really want to type 'tk' in a sentence and not 'to'?

I mean, why in God's name, would I want to send the message, "are you going tk the game tonight".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,657 ✭✭✭✭Dial Hard

My phone (5+ years old) is most definitely not AI enabled and it still does that. Yesterday it auto-corrected "new" to "née" on me. Because that's absolutely the more commonly used of the two, like 🙄

It's nothing to do with AI, it's just poor predictive text functionality.

Related TA: that my phone is most definitely on its way out and I'm going to have to buy a new one soon. It won't hold a charge for love nor money any more.

tk's for that? Perhaps you have trendy AI that likes txt speak?

Wake me up when it's all over.

Just reading the thread I realise my phone is 14 years old . A year older than my eldest child .

The 2nd part is I’m friends in real life with people who post alot of Sinn Féin material . The first part is I am in a FB group where the majority seem to come areas more associated with people of the unionist persuasion .
I don’t want to mix and match .

Ah, don't hurt its feelings… kicking an appliance when it's down (unless it's an old telly)… you might expedite its demise!

It might retaliate like something out of a Stephen King novel then :D

When you push a pill out of a blister pack and the piece of foil backing comes off in one piece instead of staying attached to the plastic. Now you have a tiny bit of rubbish to get rid of.

Wake me up when it's all over.

Or when the piece of foil is too strong to break through easily and you end up breaking the pill in half.

    • a homewear / DIY website, im looking for price of something quickly but the pop ups as soon as I go onto the site…
    • prompt popping up wanting my email address…..prompt popping up for me to enter a discount code.
    • ‘chat widget’ box pops up so I can have my questions misunderstood / misinterpreted by AI. cookies ‘accept all‘ and all that comes in at some point…
    • I can’t use any facet of their site without multiple clicks on ‘ok’ for each of the above on their un-reactive POS of a website that still thinks it’s stuck in 2004. Thing is I want to order some rope , if I could have ordered it I’d probably considered hanging myself with it such is the ordeal. 👀🤦🏻‍♂️

'Mod warning in post #391' To anybody on a phone that statement is about as much use as a chocolate teapot. Just put it in the first post.

I’m supposed to be going on a three day holiday abroad this weekend with friends and I’m dreading it. I just feel like I’ll be totally out of my comfort zone. I’m seriously thinking of just visiting the parent’s instead for a couple of days and having some lone time while out on my mountain bike.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,547 ✭✭✭✭cj maxx

I’ve been there . A great idea when organising it but as things go on you’d rather just not bother . It would have been great years ago but not anymore

yet another electric dental flosser has bit the bullet. 💀. This my 4th. They all have lasted between about 12/13/14 months…. I can’t recall what I paid but it was around €110 I think… so would be nice or expected to get maybe 2 years or at least 18 months out of one…..with all the others the motor just wore out but this one the speed regulator or whatever it’s called did… so it’s at a constant ultra high pressure way beyond it’s max designed setting regardless of where you set the dial….so teeth / gums / implant could be damaged potentially but at best it’s uncomfortable to use.

Drivers (some drivers) & roundabouts. Indicating left, then indicating right, then going straight through …. really annoying, dangerous too.

checking the status of a delivery im expecting. ‘Wednesday April 2nd by 8pm’ according to the retailers website. The courier tracking is no more accurate…Would be nice if they could be a little more specific… Between 9am - 1pm… or 1pm - 5pm, but no….It’s far too big to fit in the letterbox. So evidently it’s just ‘ hey if you want it, be sitting around, for 11 hours ‘

I noticed over the last while that people seem to have negated the want or know how to indicate at roundabouts. It’s not a difficult ‘skill’ so probably just lacking the proper diligence… ‘let’s all guess where I’m going and see’.. seems to be the mantra..

Driving down the road and seeing a D registered Hyudai Tucson in your rear view mirror.

Even tough your doing nothing wrong.

I've done my back in. Slightly more than a TA but my big TA atm is that everyone wants to help, carry things for me, pick things up for me and I don't want any help! The problem is getting in and out of a chair not filling a kettle!

Wake me up when it's all over.

It is ridiculous how many people don't understand the logic behind roundabouts. I recently pulled up a friend, who did her test in the late eighties, for not indicating at a roundabout. She had no clue and happily took my instructions. Now she is inordinately proud of being competent. Her excuse was that there were no roundabouts thirty odd years ago….in Dublin?

I have noticed a scary increase in people who do not look right when entering a roundabout, they just cruise on oblivious!

Small bread in the toaster, it doesn't come up out of the slot when it pops and you end up burning your fingers trying to get it out.

Unplug the toaster and use a fork. Or chopsticks.

Tonight’s visit to a certain warehouse chemist retailer.. in fairness a big restock was underway but I had to leave without 3 of the 4 things I went there to purchase…..

No… Waterpik dental flossers, not one of the variants, portable or the plug in one, neither.

No… Variation of the vitamin supplements that I take. By any of the drug manufacturers… a chemist without a whole varient of a particular vitamin… like a corner shop not stocking white bread. Bizarre.

No… particular eyedrops that my Dad uses.

If you are going to open till 9pm have stuff people want and need.. otherwise it’s pointless…eyedrops and vitamins in particular are everyday healthcare needs. Not optional.

People who complain about “ people” who are bad drivers . With so many obviously “ good drivers “ complaining I wonder who those “ people “ are .

Tesco bread rolls are 1.euro 20 cent , I notice they are now about 30 per cent smaller . Shrinkflation. . i.d prefer if they just put the price up to 1.50 and leave the size as is
