59k is not an extravagant amount to spend on a car but I get your point . I think Taycan and Etron GT are "look at me" cars in a way the Macan may not be.

They’re definitely flash but I think they both look fantastic compared to the sea of small SUV’s currently on the roads here.
The Macan will appeal to a wider audience. An older demographic that want a high seating position due to worn out hips/knees/backs and also the school run brigade for off roading on south dublin kerbs and footpaths. It’s hard to think the Macan would fare much better than a Q8/e-Tron in terms of depreciation. It may have a slight advantage due to being more efficient and having a more premium badge.

That's it exactly, I have an etron SUV that many people think I probably spent much more money on than I actually did but it's a conservative looking car really and I like it for that. It's not time for me to change cars but I find myself strangely drawn to the idea of a Merc EQS for the last few months whereas it was etron GT before that.

Anyway, back to macan, I was passing an Audi dealer today and I dropped in and saw Q6 for the first time, really like the proportions and style so the Macan should be a cracking looking car too. Q6 will go same way as original etron in depreciation, I am almost certain of that. The Macan will need the Porsche badge to save it from the same fate but I can't see the market for them used at high values either. Many people are reluctant to go EV at all with worries about costs of them going wrong never mind a Porsche

Porsche Ireland have a few heavily specced Macans up on Carzone now. Look nice.
You can go mad on the options list though which I guess you never get back at resale

I'm not a fan of the rear of the Macan, not really into the Coupe type SUVs, much too sloped, would prefer the looks of the Q6. Looks well otherwise

Test drove one a few weeks ago. Lovely car. Really tempted to go for it but the potential high depreciation and shite trade in they are giving me on my current car is holding me back at the moment.

The extras list is crazy ....you even have to pay for a rear windscreen wiper!

this is the problem, audi and porsche are happy to retail a decently specced q6 or macan at 100k but they dont want to offer any sort of trade in against them, i dont see either of them being big sellers to be honest, especially not the q6 at current pricing, whatever about the taycan it at least has the porsche prestige going for it.

You forget how much of a sucker Paddy is for SUVs and crossovers.

You forget how useful and handy a crossover/suv can be.

is the lure of a Porsche badge enough that they can offer rubbish trade ins especially on electric cars that are supposedly a hard sell.

If you had a Porsche to trade in or if you wanted a taycan that had been sitting there awhile would they change their tune I wonder?

    What were you trading in?

They're good for sitting higher than the peasantry or surviving getting rammed by a gin addict in a Range Rover, I'll give you that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,778 ✭✭✭joe1303l

Yes, substantial discounts to be had on their advertised approved used prices based on the recent experience of a Boardsie Taycan purchase.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 248 ✭✭Frankie19

Trading in a Range Rover Evoque. It's a Joe Duffy group trade in price....getting the same trade in price from landrover swords..Audi North....as ultimately the car will end up in the landrover forecourt to sell.

TBF even Bradys Mercedes gave me a rubbish trade in....bit more but the GLC I was looking at was costing more than the Macan.

No one wants a Range Rover as a trade in at the moment ..... I shouldn't be surprised really. I have lost 60% value in 3 years

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,845 ✭✭✭✭Cyrus

glc prices are mad now had one 5 years ago , nothing special

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 248 ✭✭Frankie19

Yep €98k for a coupe. Mad money....although the prices of Q5s/X5s have also gone insane.

To get the exact same Evoque model I have now just in a different colour and 251 plate is costing an extra 12k than what I paid 3 years ago.

Its crazy to think a Porsche is better value at the moment! Can't help but feel the other premium brands are going to struggle against their equivalents of the Macan with their current pricing. Also think the Cayenne could struggle against the Macan. But then again if you go for the Macan Turbo with some extras....you might as well go for the Cayenne.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,800 ✭✭✭carsfan2

the fact your evoque model has gone up in price by 12k should surely result in less depreciation for your car.

60per cent in three years sounds very high.

I recently drove a glc and was very underwhelmed for what it is for the money.

Interior felt very cheap and plastic.

That's what I thought and pressed land-rover on it. According to them the issues in the UK with not being able to insure them is resulting in that stock being imported here....resulting in trade in values being so low. Landrover have even had to pull their own insurance off the market which they introduced to try keep sales up.

The sales guy then proceeded to try get me to pay a booking deposit for a new one....told him I'd buy one of the imports instead 😂

we got a glc in Mar 201, diesel, se spec, €52k.

a new diesel 251 se spec is €81k starting.

    a hard pass.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 248 ✭✭Frankie19

That's an insane increase. You would wonder if new car sales will be affected in January. People coming to the end of their 3 year PCPs are faced with no equity and insane price increases for the same spec car again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,050 ✭✭✭sk8board

a lot of 2022/2023 PCPs are going to be under water for sure, but I’m not convinced people are falling for these high prices as much in 2024, especially given the large falls in new car prices seen recently.

There was a perception in 2022 that you needed to buy now before it goes even higher. So let’s see in 2025/26.

re the Macan, since 2014 its been my favourite family suv, but could never stretch to one. Was in one during the summer, and found it very unassuming - certainly not shouty anyway.

a mid/essential spec Mecan EV is a €110k ticket now. Feels a bit much - even that crazy expensive polestar 3 is €17k less

I'm managing to get a build spec I'm happy with for 95k ( base model for longer the longer range). Not interested in extras il never get my money back on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25 slideaway

Unfortunately there's some extras that you've got to have to enjoy the car, no point buying it and not having the right spec. Plus resale is pretty spec dependent (but won't get your money back, cars sell easier)

I've found it's usually at the least 10-15k (usually more like 20+)of options on a taycan or cayenne so expect similar.

Quick look and the lowest I can get to is 99k and that's leaving things out I would have.

Air suspension, pasm, Bose sound, adaptive cruise, pan roof, upgraded leather are must haves to me. Then sports chrono, metallic paint also.

I have upgraded wheels, metallic paint, Pana roof, some exterior extras in gloss black and the porsche sound.

I do all motorway driving so the suspension isn't a big deal for me and no point upgrading the sound system... I have small kids and cocomelon on repeat.

your choice of course, experience in taycan and cayenne means air is the first box I would tick, lowers the car on the motorway FYI.

would try to see a car with standard interior before going without upgrading the leather, big difference in the feel of the cabin.

60 Macans registered in Jan and Feb this year, March numbers not out yet which is not bad. Cayenne is down 27% from 94 units to 69 , the Macan must be pulling some sales from it.

Ive seen no less than 3 of these in my local area. They are absolutely stunning in the right colour/spec/wheel combo. All 251 cars!

Picked my own up a couple of weeks ago, I went for the purple with black gloss trims. Absolutely delighted with it

Likely to outsell the overpriced Q6 e-Tron here at that rate.
