The Mecan only sold 8 units in 2022 and 6 units so far in 2023. Will the EV fair any better?

The price point will be high, but available units will sell, but not hot cakes in my opinion, not in Ireland anyhow.

The tiny sales is because thanks to our tax system a base Macan is currently more expensive than a Cayenne hybrid, so you’d want to be a bit mad to buy one.

The new EV Macan will sell well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,740 ✭✭✭carsfan2

    I agree

the current Macan is petrol only whereas an EV will have much lower vrt and I’d be surprised if Porsche didn’t price the entry model below the cayenne.

I can see it being a hot seller here in the context of Porsche numbers

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 41,548 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

    Define sell well.

    100’s of units?

    Hot cakes, not a chance.

“I can see it being a hot seller here in the context of Porsche numbers”

Thats a more appropriate statement IMO. Relative to Porsche numbers but it won’t sell like hot cakes in the same sense as an ID4 does.

Stunning looking I’d say though 👍

Article says dual motor only & just two variants, one of which will be performance. Should interesting to see pricing on the entry level model.

Had a look there, Porsche have sold 183 Taycans and 159 Cayennes (currently starting at EUR 101k, hybrid is 35k cheaper than base petrol) this year so far.

In a kinda similar area of the market to a Macan, BMW have sold 267 iX3 and 130 iX, Audi 92 Q8 e-trons. Would think that a Macan EV is vastly more desirable than any of them.

If the Macan EV comes in under 100k (current base petrol is 106k) they'll shift well over a hundred of them fairly easily I reckon.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 41,548 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

I’d have a Mecan over any of the BMW variants too.

    edit. Spelling.

Macan EV is more likely to be BMW iX xdrive50 money though. iX3 is what, €78K and the iX40 is €89k. I’d be very surprised if a Macan EV was within €25k of those prices.

Thought it would be a little small for you..😊

There will be a single motor version too according to other articles I’ve read.

that will be the model most will buy here I think.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,686 ✭✭✭✭the_amazing_raisin

It's still spelled incorrectly (Mecan) 😉😂

I'd take a box of Meccano over a BMW as well, it'd probably go further without breaking down 😜

I could be way off with my 100k guess but I’ve based it on the fact that it’s based on the Audi Q6 platform. A Q8 is 90isk now I think, putting Q6 in the 70k zone. Then add Porsche tax.

A grim spec Taycan is just over 100k and the Macan is deffo below that in the Porsche hierarchy.

I thought the Macan EV is going to be based on a Chinese EV platform, because they were waiting on the SSP platform from VW which keeps getting delayed

My Dad has had several BMW’s never broke down on him.

Well built cars just like the Audi I have.

Unlike the crap Tesla I did own, a piece of junk.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 41,548 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

    Audi well built 😂😂

I think I’d take the BMW over most, if not all of Audis EV offerings at present.

The eTron is the new Chelsea tractor of the south side yummie mummies, all show and not much go unfortunately. Very inefficient for the levels of power you get, i thought the ID4 was bad!

My last Audi was a piece of junk too. Glad I sold that and couldn’t wait to get rid of but it was a good trade in I took off something else, but that’s a different story for another thread. Let’s not spoil the Mecan thread giving out about Audi quality.

Thanks for the review of the e-tron GT, Del Boy.

    Wife brought a brand new 191 A7.

If that was their flagship offering and was "well built" I'd hate to see their lower end stuff.

Not a great car at all. Horrible creaking from the dash that no one in the dealers could pinpoint the fault.

Gearbox that took forever to kick down meaning that even with a 3litre V6 turbo diesel engine, you couldn't risk overtaking half the time.

She bought a 211 8 series new to replace the Audi. She has less than 20 thousand kilometres on it and already the leather is worn off the steering wheel. It looks terrible.

The greatest trick the German's have played on us is convincing us their mass produced vehicles are "premium".

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 41,548 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

One of the biggest items to wear on the German stuff is the steering wheel. Especially BMW.

I’ve gotten the 530e wheel re-done recently and it’s better than OEM now!

Oi! BMWs are well built reliable cars. Unless of course you are in the 99% of people who bought one of their diesels in the last 15 years. They are sh1te, break down, or go on fire. The latter if you are lucky as the insurance will pay out for fires.

Thoughts? Don’t see pricing on the Irish website yet

€84k for the Macan 4 in Germany, €115k for the turbo

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,740 ✭✭✭carsfan2

Just watched the autogefuhl video of it.

looks good enough. Price will be interesting here. It’ll have to be less than the cayenne phev which is 100k odd yet can’t be cheaper the the Audi Q6 etron that coming out.

Guess about 90k for the Macan 4 here and you’ll need 10k of options🙄 obviously.

just saw you can build and price on the uk website so we will have it soon I guess

    Irish configurator now live.

Starting at 92.5k. I think it will do well at that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,361 ✭✭✭User1998

That seems ridiculously expensive when a Tesla Model Y is less than half that. They seem to share the same dimensions and everything.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,035 ✭✭✭Soarer

    Not really.

That's like saying why is this Rolex so expensive when this Casio has the same dimensions.

    Exactly Tesla is not luxury!

At that starting price, and looking that good, they should sell a few hundred of them, anyone know when we should see them there on Irish roads?

Porsche sold 191 Taycans and 180 Cayennes in 2023, so I'm expecting about 300 Macan (that's assuming there's no restrictions on supply here) , I'm guessing but I would expect the new Macan will probably take sales from the Taycan and also the Audi e-torn GT (which only sold 102 in 2023)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,219 ✭✭✭✭Larbre34

They won't sell anything like that number. The Taycan is leading the charge of tanking luxury EV sales, they couldn't be launching a Macan EV at a worse time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 216 ✭✭Ricey3509

I must admit I like the look of these, I did a configuration with what I'd consider essentials and I ended up with 14K in extras. Hilariously they are charging 328 for a rear wiper!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 563 ✭✭✭Smouse156

Porsche is far more of a luxury brand than Tesla/Toyota

Configured for the one I'd order myself and added 13.8k of extras. Most were "required" like rear wiper, towbar. One good thing though is that unlike taycan most of the EV based options like 150kW charging etc seem included as well as AWD.

    Quite nice actually.

I’ve been aiming to keep it under 100k when I build one!

I reckon you can get a decent spec for that with all the “essentials”😁

the Audi q60 etron will have to be 10k cheaper surely to have any hope of success when it arrives?

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 41,548 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

I think that goes without saying. Can we have one thread where we don’t get the aul “this is better than Tesla” comments. Of course it is. It’s 2.5 times the price of it and nobody will argue otherwise.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,361 ✭✭✭User1998

I wasn’t saying its going to be on par in with a Tesla Model Y, I just don’t think its good value at 2.5x times the price. I’ve personally daily driven a Cayenne and I really wasn’t all that impressed by it so I don’t see how a Macan would be any different.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,361 ✭✭✭User1998

On a side note it seems to have a range of 613 kilometres which is very impressive

A quick conversion on UK price to Irish equivalent should have it around 88k in Ireland? They adding a bit extra purely because they reckon then can here?

Took UK price of 69k and converted to Euro. Added extra 3% Vat on (think we are 23 vs 20 in Uk).

    Added 7% Vrt.

Funny reading reactions to the base price in various redit forums from US/UK users…price jump is huge for them compared to their ice.

We’re well used to it because of the daylight robbery VRT on any sort of medium/high ice performance models.

I didn’t see any yet. One or two posters on here may have been at the event so may have some info.

I started a thread on this last October.

Prices and specs have been on the Porsche website for ages.
Rear wheel drive model starts about 88k.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 41,548 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

I looked on the site but couldn’t see pricing.
Completecar states it starts at €92k.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 41,548 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

Thanks. No idea why it wouldn’t appear for me. It would just give me the petrol versions. Maybe it’s a sign 😂

It looks bloody fantastic. I can’t wait for it to depreciate so I can afford one 😂😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,740 ✭✭✭carsfan2

I agree it looks great. Much better than the Audi Q6 cousin and very similar price.

Will be interesting to see if residuals are as bad as the Taycan though I doubt they will be. The rear drive with 640km range is plenty fast enough for most people too.

I have heard anecdotally though that Joe Duffy Porsche offer terrible trade in prices and zero discount on new cars so maybe cost to change might favour other brands.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 41,548 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

Joe Duffy Porsche can be a bit uptight alright. But if you’re a regular customer they will respect you. I am not. Some cars they won’t even let you order but the EV side of the house is open to all as they “need” to sell them so they can’t be picky!
