I watched the highlights there. The Ospreys six tries:

    • Defence narrow and very passive. One long pass cut out everyone. Brilliant offload.
    • Very poor defence from central scrum. Never even close to defending it.
    • Poor kick by Ioane. Very lazy chase left him isolated to get stepped.
    • Kick behind. Our players all asleep. Smart kick and they deserved the luck they got.
    • Weird bounce. O'Conor did nothing wrong it just bounced back over his head. Great counter by them.
    • Intercept. Forced pass by JJ. Really good read by their wing.

One freak try with a mix of poor defence, laziness, and poor judgement for the rest. If we'd turned up properly we'd have comfortably won that game.

Tucker was linked to Munster but from what I hear here in Limerick is that he was never in the running as he never threw his hat in the ring and that Munster hadn't approached him. He probably informed Connacht of all that without going public on it which kept the rumours to Munster alive a lot longer than usual

O'Conor was absolutely dreadful for the second try, would expect a lot better from him.

Defense is no.1 and when it's not happening you'll lose a lot of games. You cannot expect to score 25+ every week.

We've conceded on average 24 points per game, that's not good enough.

When the defense is that bad you have to look at the coaching. We need change at the end of the season.

The Tribune's preview of the Ospreys game mentioned that Tucker was staying for the remaining year on his contract.

He confirmed it himself in the pre game press conference last week

Cheers folks, had missed he was staying on. Happy with that as his technical coaching is very good and, in hindsight, it's not his place to come out and savage the squad after a performance.

The Pete Wilkins stuff has a whiff of a palace coup about it. He's a nice guy, but not a Head Coach and certainly not a selector. Some recent selections have been baffling to say the least.

Oisin McCormack's contract extension means Conor Oliver will be on his way at the end of the season. It also looks like Piers O'Conor will leave at the end of the season. Can we get Tom Farrell back?

I hope you're wrong about Conor Oliver but we won't be getting Tom Farrell back, he's bee great for Munster. It was madness to let him go, but at least Gavin is being shaped as a 13.

Was Piers O’Connor only a one year deal? Would be a shame to see him go.

Piers would be a loss, he's been decent at both 13 and 15.

I had assumed Pierce was signed on a 2 year deal. Hopefully he isn't leaving as would be a loss.

Oliver has probably been a bit unfortunate with his lack of game time but had a few poor games with a lot of penalties conceeded in games that I remember this season. The kind of player you would like to keep though if possible.

Losing Piers O'Conor would be unfortunate. He's performed well in most games since he joined and he brings a decent kicking game to a Connacht side who come up short there frequently. I had heard a murmuring that his renewal had hit a snag. Possibly just the extra money available in the Premiership with the increased salary cap.

Tom Farrell won't be coming anywhere near us. He was offered a pay cut, found a better offer with Munster, and he looks great in their attack when they get decent ball.

I think Conor Oliver is on the wrong end of us trying to maximise size and power in our pack. All the penalties conceded off the bench really don't help. Niall Murray has been the other player losing out due to size.

Oliver has really lost out to SHL, which is tough but Langton has really come into his own at 7 this season.

Adam McBurney has been signed by Dinamo Rugby in Bucharest, perhaps effective immediately. Management must be feeling more confident about the fitness of our hookers or more positive about Victory.

A friend who is a Bristol fan said O'Connor was OK but nothing special for Briatol. I think he's been good for Connacht. Sounds like he's doing better than he did at Bristol. Maybe his stock has risen and he's getting more offers on more money elsewhere.

It would be a pity if he leaves.

For his latter years at Bristol he was pushed out of 13 by Semi Radradra and Virimi Vakatawa, and 15 by Charles Piatau. Very few players would look great coming in as 23 behind those starters.

Yeah that's fair. I hope Connacht can do a deal to keep him.

I would be amazed if O'Connor is only on a 1 year deal

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,159 ✭✭✭KBurke85

On the Craggy rugby pod they said O’Connor is pretty much gone. It was a one year deal and apparently his family haven’t settled in Galway so he won’t be staying.

A shame as others have said he’s been a good signing

That's a shame. There's more to life than rugby!

Hopefully he lines up a decent contract elsewhere.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,319 ✭✭✭realhorrorshow

That's a pity, he has played more minutes than anyone else this season so will leave a hole to be filled. I think Gavin at 13 is the answer, and perhaps John Devine gets promoted to provide some depth. Not sure what we'll do at fullback though. I really wish we had just backed Jennings there years ago, he has the talent and emerged at the perfect time to succeed Tiernan O'Halloran.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 551 ✭✭✭ShineyShiney

If Piers goes we need a full back. I'd much prefer an experienced head with a good kicking game to help lead our young backs which probably means NIQ. However Henry McErlane and Pa Campbell are young IQ options that aren't getting a lot of game time.

West graduates from the academy and has been playing 15 for the last while I think maybe he's in the plan but considering he hasn't gotten a minute he's probably either a non runner or a late bloome.

Come home Joey we have a nice 15 slot for you with the kicking duties as well.

I think I remember talk of O'Connor being signed as a cheaper alternative to offering Farrell a better contract so this is a shame that it won't work out but you have to put family first.

Ralston should also be tried at 15. Good tackler and not too bad in the air.

I'm not sure if he has the kicking game to play fullback. Maybe I've missed games where he did but I barely remember him kicking the ball when he played wing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,159 ✭✭✭KBurke85

I think West has been struggling with injuries. A bit like Bolton

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 69 ✭✭lavrenti

Hansen is the obvious first choice 15 with Jennings to back up when Mack is away on international duty. That said getting Joey Carbery back or Ciaran Frawley down would be excellent pieces of business.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,761 ✭✭✭✭eagle eye

I think Forde at full back makes sense when Aki is there.

I'd be concerned about Forde being stretched even more. He's already a 12, who covers 10, can goal kick, and has started at 13 this season. I'd far prefer we ended up with an International quality 12 when Aki is done rather than just a really good utility player.
