Any bits with nails just get used in the firepit during the summer.

Must be a Rathwood log (though it’s a bit big for one of them 🤣)

Fair play, I tried using a crowbar and hammer to get the nails out but found they were too spindly and it too time consuming. I just don't have the patience to pick out the bajillions of nails. I've decided i wont riddle the the stove for a few days at a time and pick out the nails later, not going to let all that wood go to waste. I have a builders meter square bag full of naily wood which will probably last me a couple of weeks of fires at least, free flames!

I posted here before about the extremely poor wood from Rathwood. Same as you, the pallet I received looked close to kindling. I burned through it pretty quickly and would never order from them again. I put up a review of them on Trustpilot or Google (can't remember which one) with pictures comparing the size of their wood compared to wood I still had from the previous year, and they contacted me to offer me a €50 voucher. Staying clear from now on.

Ah that was you? Knew someone had posted before alright 👍

The latest on delays from Rathwood… ordered wait and save for 16 March, date changed first to 31 March now I see it change again a few days ago to 21st April.

Who on earth wants firewood at the very end of April?

The end of me using Rathwood I think, once that order is finished I'll be changing suppliers.

If you don't need the order for the end of April you can cancel for a full refund. I see they're already taking orders for delivery next September 😂

I ordered in knowing it would be mid-March, now April. It was half the price of other suppliers so I didn’t mind. In the meantime I also got a smaller crate elsewhere at the cheapest price I could find. I’ll still have most of that crate left over when the RW delivery arrives, but I’ll just store it and it’ll keep me going all of next winter.

Has anyone ever tried to get a refund from Rathwood?

They delayed my order to a point where I didn't need it, I cancelled the order for a refund on 10/03 but 11 working days later their accounts team still haven't processed the refund. They still can't tell me a date for when it will be processed it because they said today 'Refunds are processed in order of request'. How many refund requests have they received that they can't give me a date 2 weeks after cancellation?

Did you pay by credit card?

Email them, stating they have 48 hours to process your refund or else you will initiate a chargeback with your credit card provider. Then if they dont action within that time, initiate the chargeback.

That should get their attention. Otherwise whilst it will take some time for you to get your money back, take comfort knowing chargebacks are also a pain for the company.

Make sure you keep records of all correspondence and be clear how they have failed to provide you with the goods you paid for.

Yeah, paid by cc. I was aware of the chargeback system but didn't really want to go down that route. I was going back and forth with them today over their helpdesk system, hopefully I've prodded them in to action but even the last message from them was vague.

Its shocking, isn't it? The date of 21 April is now gone to mid June. I'd bought the 30 bags of 13kg birch for 133 which is extremely cheap anyway, and since I've ended up not using anything much in recent weeks due to fine weather happy to leave it until June, but its pretty bad to go from a March delivery to June, even at those prices. That will do me for the early months of the autumn.

This will be my last order with Rathwood - I've already started trying out other suppliers, so I won't be going back.

I just checked my order and it’s now 30th May. I haven’t burned much since my last post so while I think it’s very unprofessional of them, it doesn’t worry me as I have loads of we have a cold snap between now and then.

Anyone recommend Kennys fuels? €473 for 2m sq crates a good price..

Got the oak before and could not fault it. Slow long burn. Have ordered the 2.3 mtr oak with delivery due on Tue.

Dam you and your competition, just ordered 50 bags of ash for €325 ! (They have 25 for €169 which is good , usually €199) Great burn off it, can't fault boyles.

never again from Rathwood, order expected late March, now they contact to say it’ll be end of May (only after I contacted them)

they are the most reactive company around, they only replied after I contacted them to ask what day this week they’ll be delivering (after multiple date pushbacks)

    don’t buy from them

They have stock if you want to pay full price, to me it’s just like taking your money and deliberately delaying sending the product, a worrying business model

    Never again

I feel your pain as I am in the same position with my last six orders. I had to learn to relax regarding their non delivery. I ordered wait and save months ago, 50 x coal and 60 x briquettes knowing they are needed for next Winter and assuming I would have them by then. It's so bad that I'm no longer confident of that. You need to expect and accept their failings or just avoid them to keep your mental health stable.

6 orders, jeez it’ll be the last time I buy from them anyway

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 313 ✭✭dubguy45

It's down to cost for me, unfortunately. Rathwood rewarded me with a VIP customer status. That got me an extra 10% off the coal but no special phone number to contact them. Option 6 is the biggest cause of stress. Wait 40 minutes to get from position 16 to 3 to have the line dropped from their end.

Yeah looks like I might be paying an in-person visit to stock up on the bargains from Boyles. Its the worst time of the year to be looking for that last bit to tide over between now and the autumn because most other suppliers have already sold out that winter stock. Fortunate there was a bit of fine weather, as I'm dependent on the stove for heating as I don't have oil/gas.

    Boyles are great

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,093 ✭✭✭shoegirl

I'm not a "VIP" whatever that is. I've bought from them about half a dozen times over the past 18 months. But yes, its abysmal customer service. Its cheap and nasty, basically.

Usually order from Monaghans and have been happy with the quality. Are Boyles as good? They only have 1m crates but still cheaper than Monaghans currently

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,565 ✭✭✭jamesd

I got a crate of Rathwood oak, really happy with it - big delay with the delivery but got it in the end and the oak is very good.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,435 ✭✭✭geographica

Bought from both, happy with theirs, after Rathwood delivery I’ll be going back to either of them

    Rathwood never again

I went to Boyles in person Easter week as I was running out. 11 bags ash plus kindling and a box of starter logs was 77 euro. It's just 65 currently for Birch or ash for 11 bags plus kindling. Can't really go wrong there. You'd get that easily into your boot
