It was a simple question, I asked it and it was answered. You're the one carrying on.

From reading this thread over a year or so it's in the "proceed with caution" bracket imo.

My delivery is now the end of august. Anyone have any luck in getting a refund?

Rathwood have the dodgiest business model I’ve ever known

If you want a refund and the aren’t providing it you have protection, get on to the CCPC

Unfortunately it seems in Ireland there is no consumer protection for companies deliberately delaying your order in order to hold monies on account, probably funding other purchases by the company

there is nothing to say they cannot hold your money indefinitely, which is pathetic

Is this false or misleading advertising I wonder? Pay Feb, get it March, then they just lie and keep pushing it back and back as they never had any intention of delivering it in March, that could be complaint worthy

For anyone who had used a credit card, get in touch with your credit card company and complete a chargeback procedure.

Not true. Consumer rights are clear under the act. Of course the terms of sale with an agreed date will apply, but if they miss that agreed date, I would suggest you are within your rights to obtain a refund.

I never said you weren’t entitled to a refund, you are, but by all accounts when refunds are requested they delay and delay this too, which is against consumer protection

Yep - reread your post there.

Checked Tuesday and my order for match delivery that was to go out 18th July is also pushed back to late August. No notifications either. I just thought of checking today just in case.

I might have to go down the route of asking for a refund.

yes it’s beyond ridiculous they are taking money from people for orders they know too well they aren’t going to fulfill in the timeframe they claim

shambles company, it would make you wonder how much of peoples money is on deposit/funding their other operations

Its one thing missing a delivery date by a few weeks or even a month at high season, but someone putting in an order in late January for delivery in March, and in July finding it delayed until August really is taking the piss.

If we even get lucky for august

remember to leave the quality of service review on trustpilot

Lads it appears that what Rathwood are doing is drop shipping firewood meaning the firewood you are buying is not yet in Ireland. Your order arriving on time is dependent on other people ordering enough firewood that they can fill up a shipping container in somewhere like Latvia and then have it shipped to Ireland.

A 40 foot shipping container could fit in and around 56 x 1m3 pallets of firewood. So if you are order no.1 in that shipping container you are not getting your delivery until order no. 56 fills it and the door is closed and it is shipped to Ireland. That is what seems to make the delivery times so uncertain.

Such a system could work well if they knew they had enough orders to fill and ship a container every single week. And in winter time they likely will have that demand. However trying to find 56 people to order 1m3 of firewood in the middle of July is not an easy sell so the delivery date will keep getting pushed out for as long as it takes to fill that container.

then they shouldn’t lie to people if that’s what they do

surely they’ve had more than 56 orders since February

They are getting interest free loans from their customers ffs. Cancel en masse and if they don't refund put through a chargeback.

They are one of the worst companies I have delt with. Ordered wood and coal the 19th of December and still have not got the coal. I'm told I'll be refunded for the coal but I have no date confirmed for that. They have given me the run around for so long now I don't believe anything they say . The customer portal doesn't work anymore. Absolute dopes

    @dr robert

    Perhaps, but they aren’t

there was “free” kindling with my order, they offered to send this and wait for the logs, I’m hesitant as that would semi complete the contract and I presume would prevent me getting a refund

I could not find anywhere in their terms and conditions that they have a right to extend the delivery Dates at their convenience though 🧐

I would definitely not be accepting a partial order from Rathwoods.

Thats inviting trouble and would easily go sideways, based on their inability to fulfill orders or provide reliable order updates.

    Below is Rathwoods Refund Terms.

How long will my refund take?

If you’ve cancelled your order or returned your item to us, rest assured we will be working on processing your refund as quickly as possible. For cancellations, your refund will be processed immediately but can take up to 10 working days to show as refunded against your original payment method for returned items.

For returns, we estimate that we can take up to 7 - 10 working days to inspect the returned items for any faults or damages. Once it is confirmed that the item is in its original packaging and re-sellable condition, your refund will be processed. Whilst we will then action the refund straight away, this can take up to 10 working days to show as refunded against your original payment method.

If you have any queries regarding your refund, do not hesitate to contact us. Please note that none of the above will affect your statutory rights.

    EU Law below

    Getting your refund

If the seller fails to deliver your goods within 30 days or the specified date, you can cancel the contract and get a refund of all the money you paid (including delivery) without delay.

For goods bought at a distance (that is online, by phone or away from the business premises), you have the right to cancel your order within the cooling-off period (14 days from delivery) without having to give a reason. However, you may have to pay for the cost of returning the goods. Always check the returns policy before buying.

Where you use your right to cancel, you must be refunded for the full amount you paid, including the standard delivery costs to send the item to you. You are only entitled to a refund for standard delivery. If you chose to pay more for next day, express or nominated day delivery, the seller only has to refund you for standard delivery.

The trader must give you your refund within 14 days. The refund must be in the same form as the original payment unless you agree some other method. For example, if you originally paid in cash, you can insist on any refund also being in cash.

If people aren't getting their refund in the correct timeframe, report the company/make a complaint.

Except that I ordered in January, not July. I ordered 29th January for a delivery that was to arrive 6 weeks later in mid March. I have made about 8-10 previous orders with Rathwood, and they were never delayed for more than a week, and mostly arrived on time give or take a week each way. I can fully understand that they won't get 56 orders for July, but they absolutely could have 56 orders in late January, especially for sets consisting of 20-40 small bags.

I've not had issues with them in the past and overlooked some messing last Christmas, but it seems to have been a portent of the shambles that was to come with my last, and as of now, last ever order with Rathwood.

That's my worry. It makes no sense that after 2 years of buying from them, pre-orders could suddenly break down to the point which they have this year. I'd made several wait-and-save orders generally 3-4 months usually straight after receiving the previous order and making an assessment of roughly how long I could manage on that, and allowing a couple of weeks delay. I had no expectation that a delivery ordered end of January for mid March could end up being scheduled (and not even guaranteed delivery - every month my order has been kicked back a month a week or two before the previous due date).

I've not gone down the refund route so far because of the horror stories I've heard from people on here, but after being messed around for 4 months I'm starting to think a refund and chargeback if nothing within 14 days is the only route.
