Even after the surprise result on Saturday night, Sweden retains its status as bookmakers' favourite. Because the juries didn't tank them on Saturday, the expectation is Eurovision juries won't either. With a good televote score expected and possible decent support from the juries, we may still see Sweden victorious. That'll bruise Måns' ego.

Israeli entry seems to have gotten a rather underwhelming response, not much buzz around it since last night.

The Swiss entry is surprisingly good…..a strong number for a host nation.

It has been very muted, but I guess they don't care because they know a big televote score is coming. I've only seen one "This is good enough to win" post on social media so far, with most comments saying it's very generic. Taking politics out of it completely, it would be a terrible shame if Israel won because the song just isn't good enough, the same as with Hurricane last year.

The UK entry is growing on me from repeated listens. Sounds like the girls will perform well but the song is just too busy. I find myself switching off midway through with all the mood/time changes.

Regardless of how it does at Eurovision I could see the UK entry going viral on TikTok after the contest, similar to Snap.

Israel is just a rejigged version of their entry last year. They will likely get a decent televote again (undeservedly) but won't threaten the win.

Regarding Sweden the juries in Melfest liked it but the juries in Eurovision will have plenty of songs to put above it. Just because a song does well with international juries in a nf doesn't mean they will do well with juries in Eurovision, see what happened to Queen of Kings. With the televote I think it'll do well but I can't see eastern and southern Europe going for it. There could also be 'Swede Fatigue'... to be honest I don't want Eurovision to go back to Sweden just yet.

Switzerland is a pleasant song but a bit underwhelming. I think it will get some jury love but be blanked in the televote. Typical host country entry.

    Cyprus

Only two songs left to hear now, Georgia and the long awaited France.

The deadline to have all entries submitted and cleared by the EBU passed two days ago, so someone somewhere (well, in Geneva) knows the complete lineup for the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest. I wondered if there was a deadline for the public reveal of a song, but it appears there isn't, and if a country so choses, it can keep its entry secret until the release of the official album, which usually happens in mid-April.

We know we'll hear France during the rugby this weekend (will it be shown on TV here I wonder? Normally half-time is used for punditry), so I think all we're waiting on is the solution to the Maltese problem and whatever Georgia is doing.

Until we hear from Georgia, we won't know the full lineup for Ireland's semi, but based on what we've heard so far, despite avoiding perennial qualifiers Sweden and Ukraine, I think we are, unfortunately, in the stronger semi.

Once we know Georgia, France and Malta, the next big announcement should be the semi-final running orders, which usually come out towards the end of March. Some fans on social media seem to be predicting that EMMY may be the one to open the second semi…

official video - not bad but it’s a shame they didn’t use a more Irish looking school! It’s very Nordic.

At least the crappy LLS performance will be replaced online

Yeah, not a bad video - although I was expecting something more ‘fluffy’ along the lines of this (the benchmark by which all spaceship-set music videos should be set)… 🙂

The video looks very cheap to me, I hope they're saving the budget for the staging in May!

Not Irish-looking? When I went to school, there was Norwegian written on the blackboard all the time! 🤣

It's actually pretty decent for a low budget video - the videos for Brooke and Wild Youth were disastrous in comparison.

I don't think anyone knows what's really going on with Georgia. Wouldn't be surprised to hear they've pulled out. Hopefully we won't be waiting much longer, but at least we'll hear France on Saturday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 892 ✭✭✭supereurope

I think if Georgia was pulling out, we'd know by now. Not sure what waiting so long achieves - it is an attempt to build a buzz around your song? I mean, it's Georgia, hardly a Eurovision powerhouse (though I have been a fan of the country in the past for doing its own thing and sending whatever it likes, and it was a shame they finally broke their non-qualification streak with a generic song sung by a singer with unpleasant views.)

    We have Georgia!

Bit of a strange one. Think the juries would really appreciate it, but it obviously has to make the final first. And given Georgia's recent record, that could prove an uphill task.

We now know the complete lineup of both semi finals, and after France's reveal tomorrow we'll finally have a full house! I'll try make some predictions later.

We finally have France! Not on YouTube yet so Twitter will have to do for now

'Underwhelming' seems to be the consensus so far, but I still think this'll do well for them. Doubt it's a winner though.

I think France's song is stunning and will be appreciated more as we get closer to Eurovision. The reveal in a big stadium wasn't really fitting for the song, and the hype didn't help, so I get why people were a bit underwhelmed. It's already shortening again in the odds though, after falling a bit last night.

I hope this is staged in a very intimate manner at Eurovision. It's very raw and emotional and feels so much more authentic than Mon Amour last year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 560 ✭✭✭derb12

The staging was amazing though I agree it didn’t really fit the song.

It was a strange debut. I wouldn’t have thought that the venn diagram of rugby fans and ESC fans would have many in the intersection!
And in France, rugby is kind of niche to begin with, so the audience there wouldn’t be huge.

And amongst the countries that could potentially vote for the song, none of the national broadcasters would have shown the halftime act anyway.

It’s great to finally have the full line up!!

I like Finland and Iceland and Albania. And Sweden. And lots of other songs are growing on me as I listen. It could be a good year yet!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,402 ✭✭✭✭Strazdas

France unveiling the song in the Stade de France was not really a great idea (though I understand why they did it). It made the song sound a bit flat and mediocre, when it's actually much stronger in the studio version - it's definitely a contender.

Ok, time to predict the qualifiers. Entries in bold are ones I think could go either way.

    SF1 Qualifiers:
    Sweden
    Ukraine
    Estonia
    Belgium
    Netherlands
    Iceland
    Poland
    Albania
    Cyprus
    San Marino

    NQ:
    Norway
    Slovenia

    Portugal
    Croatia
    Azerbaijan

I found this one easier to predict, there's about seven or eight reasonably high quality songs, and of course Sweden and Ukraine are automatic qualifiers. I think Cyprus and Norway might be competing for the same kind of vote, but Cyprus should just win out. To be honest I'm not confident about San Marino at all, but I think it's catchy enough to just sneak into the top ten.

    And now for SF2

    SF2 qualifiers:
    Austria
    Israel
    Lithuania
    Finland
    Luxembourg
    Malta
    Ireland
    Australia
    Armenia
    Greece

    NQ:
    Czech Republic
    Denmark
    Serbia

    Latvia
    Montenegro
    Georgia

This one is a lot trickier, there's quite a few songs that could go either way. I'm reasonably confident abut the first eight on my 'qualifiers' list above. Armenia isn't very good, but they've got a reasonable diaspora who should see them through. Greece isn't great either but she's got a great voice. I think the Czech Republic might be a bit too divisive and the tempo change too jarring. I fear Denmark is just a bit too generic to make it, whilst I don't think even the Serbian diaspora will be enough for them to get through. But who knows, it's a tricky one.

    I like France. A lot.

It didn't have the wow factor that I was expecting on a first listen but I like it more and more each time I listen to it. I do think it's a contender.

It does seem like a very wide open year (which is good).

But I really can't fathom why Estonia is so high in the odds!

France is amazing. I haven’t been doing a listen to the entries en masse yet but I’d actually like to see France win. It would bring things back song contest again.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,790 Mod ✭✭✭✭yerwanthere123

Right now I like the French song rather than love it, but I'd be 100% down for a Eurovision in Paris!

Switzerland have been drawn to perform 19th in the final, which is about as favourable a draw as one can get.

I feel like a lot of people are sleeping on the host country's entry this year. It's a really lovely song, and in a year when many are fishing for televotes, then maybe it could stand out amongst the pack. I'll be very disappointed if this languishes near the bottom of the table on the night.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 892 ✭✭✭supereurope

Late, but not too late, seems to be the sweet spot in the running order these days. The risk, though, is being the first song on after a commercial break, that always seems to doom a song. Hopefully EMMY will avoid that.

Baffled about Estonia too. Might just be the fan bubble in action again.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,790 Mod ✭✭✭✭yerwanthere123

The Estonian song is quite catchy and might get a decent televote but will surely be decimated by juries. To be honest I think the performance will be a bit too off putting even for the average viewer, Tommy Cash just comes across a bit too weird for people to get behind en masse. A Subwoolfer/Hatari type result seems most likely to me at this stage.

He seemed sound enough to me in the past, but I definitely got an arrogant and egotistical vibe off him this year.

Sweden definitely dodged a bullet earlier this month. This would have been horrendous publicity surrounding one of the favourites, maybe even many calls for him to withdraw from the Contest.

Yikes…just as well he didn't win MF then, the last thing the contest needed was even more bad press. I hope his wife gets the support she needs, and I really hope Eurofans on social media leave her alone.

Hasn't Måns a record of making anti-LGBTBQ+ comments as well? Seem to recall something about that a few years' back, but somehow, despite the contest's huge LGBTBQ+ support base, no one seemed too bothered (it has always made me uncomfortable how the community seems to overlook Carola's views as well.)
