Fair play to RTÉ. Didn't think they'd have the stones to do it.

    Also-fcluckin-lootely…

enough is enough… they are out or everyone else is out.

And if the EBU don't act, the Eurovision is dead.

I’m delighted, Israel have ruined the last two year’s shows and are given a platform to whitewash their genocide. They’re also clearly meddling with the votes, public and jury. Fk that. The show is ruined as long as they continue to take part, I’ll be boycotting it this year regardless after last year’s mess.

Fantastic news! Here’s hoping more countries follow suit.

Great news! Hopefully other countries will join us. It’s a shame what’s happened Eurivision due to Israel’s involvement

Maybe we and RTE can lobby to get a Hamas singer in!!!

Excellent news. The competition is a farce with them in it, even moreso considering the gaming of the vote. I would much rather no Irish entry until the position changes.

I'd be very surprised if Israel will be there, here's my conspiracy …. Former DG of RTÉ now DG of the EBU let RTÉ know of the decision to not allow Israel to participate.

    ______

Just one more thing .... when did they return that car

    Yesterday

some other countries had already hinted at it; this will make their decision easier.

It stopped being fun a while back. I have fond childhood memories of those heady 90's days of Ireland winning the Eurovision hat-trick. Days where half the continent would make cheap synth-wave nonsense that never had any hope of winning while most of the secret jury voting was a fun guessing game of which nation preferred each other.

Denmark would vote for Sweden, Sweden would vote for Norway, The UK would vote for Ireland, and Ireland…would not vote for the UK :P Silly, fun, good memories of one of the few nights I could stay up late as a kid.

But now? Now there are rounds and shenanigans where selected Eurovision founders would always be in regardless of the quality of their entry. It's considerably less fun now, especially when there's a good chance that Ireland isn't even in the final to compete.

And finally we have dubious ethics within the competition itself, serving as a way to Culture-Wash questionable nations. Russia being allowed to continue after the Crimea annexation was reprehensable, and the same now applies to Isreal.

The Eurovision should be a celebration of peaceful competition…but that should be reserved for nations who actually value peace. Fair play on RTE.

Wow, never thought RTÉ would have the balls to do this, fair play to them. The EBU won't be removing Israel, so looks like we won't be there next year. How many others will follow suit remains to be seen. Great news!

Well done to RTÉ. I would imagine that other broadcasters will follow - Spain has strongly hinted at not participating if Israel does. As one of the big 5 this would hopefully lead the EBU to do the right thing.

very interesting, and certainly not a gift horse RTÉ would turn their noses up at….

I don't detect much national support for the Eurovision in Ireland anymore anyway. Obviously it has it's core supporters, particularly gay men, but the rest of the population have moved on from the Eurovision years ago.

I said last week after the news from Slovenia that now one country has taken a stand, others would follow. Iceland has made a similar statement, and while Belgium has said it has started work on finding its 2026 entry, it has also refused to confirm participation.

I hoped this would happen, and I'm so glad it has.

EDIT: oops, commented on this before going through all the other posts so I didn't know there is a 2026 thread now. See you there!

You mean one of the most viewed things on TV on the planet every year? Ya it's obviously rubbish

About time someone had the balls to challenge the participation of Israel

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,946 ✭✭✭✭AndyBoBandy

and also about time someone had the balls to finally open the 2026 thread…

Fair play….Later than hoped but at least they are making a stand now. I assume a good few others will follow. Funny the people on here complaining about how Eurovision isn't relevent or no one cares. Why would you bother being on here if it's such an irrelevance to you?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,908 ✭✭✭satguy

All of the above is true.. and there was no malice in it,, we all knew how it worked. But the voting the way it is now is a pure sham.

And then we have to put up with the inappropriate sexualization of what is supposedly a family show.

It is a show that has morphed into a freak circus.

More good news: Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS follow RTE's lead and say they will not compete in 2026 if Israel does. It does look like momentum is really shifting now.
