'The Model' now predicting Sweden to win it again

    https://eurovoix.com/2025/04/15/the-model-kaj-and-sweden-back-in-front-in-the-eurovision-race/

It's also predicting that we'll finish 7th in the SF, but caveats this with the fact a lot of bets on Emmy are likely coming from Ireland and Britain.

I was watching some of the songs performing at the London party. KAJ were great and really well received. zjerm went down really well too. As did Finland Ich komme. The one that really surprised me with its lack of impact was Austria. People seemed to be talking over it 😠.

And unfortunately Emmy’s vocals were very weak.

Feel free to make fun of me about this in a few weeks' time, but I've never seen Austria as a winner. You never know what jurors and the public are going to do, but it's fairly predictable that voters rarely go for the same thing two years in a row - and I think, for many, Austria's song will be seen as too similar to Nemo from last year.

Interesting to see Switzerland start to build some momentum. I don't think we're going to be staying in Basel for 2026, but I do think it'll do well enough to break the curse of the host country.

I don't think anyone had an appetite for another Swedish win so soon after Loreen. At least, that's what people thought when it appeared Måns would win MF. But I don't think I'd mind a KAJ win. Sweden takes the whole thing so seriously, with its conveyor belt of overpolished, overproduced, overearnest entires, so if they get rewarded for doing something different, it might encourage SVT to take more risks with MF, and maybe we'll have a break from seeing the same old faces every year.

Even better though, I think a KAJ win would cause Måns' head to explode, considering he's so convinced Sweden can't win without him.

it’s hard to know what will gather momentum. Austria will need a spectacular staging.

KAJ would be worthy winners. I wouldn’t mind relinquishing the most wins record to them. I don’t think mans’ song would have stood a chance - left side of the board might even have been in question.
The German song Baller has really grown on me. I like Australia too. And Finland and Iceland.

Rehearsals will tell a lot. Back in 2018, no one paid Fuego any attention in the runup to the contest. Rehearsals started, Eleni Foureira came on stage, whipped her hair a few times, fans went wild, momentum built up, and she almost won it all. So who knows who could surprise. A lot of countries tend to copy their NF staging, so it's the internally-selected songs that will likely spring a surprise.

I think if Sweden gets win number 8, it'll take a lot of pressure off, and I imagine (hope?) they'll start taking a few risks and we won't ever see people like John Lundvik and Måns at MF ever again. And us losing our record might put pressure to get our act together.

Finland and Denmark have become growers for me, Belgium too.

Australia however, makes me cringe myself inside out - the way he sings (in what I assume is trying to be a ‘sensuous’ voice) makes my entire body shudder, especially when he sings ‘And did you see the naughty special on my Crème Brûlée‘. I have to skip the song on my playlist.

I’ll give him a milkshake in the same way Nigel Farage receives milkshakes.

I can easily imagine a scenario where Emmy finishes 7th or 8th in the semi. She's likeable and telegenic, nice catchy retro song, the 'space' theme will be quirky and interesting for viewers, a decent enough package overall.

Going by Spotify streams, you would have to think Sweden will top the televote at least. No matter how good Austria is on the night, it's hard to believe it will receive more televotes than KAJ - Bara is an insanely catchy song that will appeal to people across the board.

I know I've said this already, but I can't see Australia qualifying. Partly because Gojo is going for the same voters as Finland and Malta, who have done a better job at building some momentum up and I just don't expect all three will go through, partly because he's on first and partly because Australia tends to be loved by the juries while the public are much cooler towards them (Voyager aside.)

Anybody know the latest on Malta?

Will there be a lyric change, or will broadcasters have to add a comedy ‘clown horn’ sound effect when that’ word is sung?

That situation was sorted a while ago. The song title is now 'Serving', and 'Kant' won't be sung.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 892 ✭✭✭supereurope

Unfortunately, they've just left a space so we all know what's going to happen when she stops singing for that second.

I want to like Miriam, but how the Maltese delegation behaved during the whole "Kant" thing really turned me off - "No, there's no play on words, we just want to celebrate our language and serve singing." I don't think anyone bought it, except maybe the YAS QUEEN group of fans who love this sort of thing.

Agreed. As I've mentioned previously I'm on the OGAE Ireland group chat. There was lots of cries of "unfairness" and "discrimination" when it was ruled Malta weren't allowed to sing c*nt on stage to 150+ million people. I kept quiet 🤐

The song was clearly written to cause controversy - they knew exactly what they were doing.

I’m listening to a ESC2025 playlist on Spotify and they are still serving the full lyrics on there so I skip malta every time. I hate the idea of the whole audience shouting it out - makes me glad I’m not going this year!

I don’t mind the Australian song and singer so much. Great opportunity for audience participation - I think it could do well. I’m very curious to see how it’ll be staged.

I see Ireland have now slipped down to 11th place in the odds to qualify from semi-final 2. We have been overtaken by Serbia.

And as much as I like Sweden, I just can't see it as a winner. I think it will win the televote, but not with a HUGE number. And I think it will pick up about 150/160 points with the juries which wouldn't be enough for an overall win.

One of the sad things about the modern-day Eurovision fandom is how different groups, whether that be Gen Z fans or the YAS QUEEN brigade or others, think Eurovision is their contest. It's not, Eurovision is for everyone, but many just can't see it that way. I was a part of Twitter fandom once upon a time (up until about 2022, when the site was already well on its way to being a cesspit), and the number of times my opinions on the contest were dismissed or disparaged all because I was (shock horror) over 30.

Sad to hear that Colin Berry has passed away. He was the UK spokesperson between 1977 and 2002 (except for 1980 and 1998.) His affability and professionalism made him a fan favourite and many were sad to see him go, though it was fortunate he was spared the horror of the 2003 voting. A reminder of a different time for the contest.

Very sad to hear. She was more than just Eurovision as well, with Come Back and Shake Me being one of her big hits outside her Eurovision song.

I see her death has already kicked off debate on social media about how the contest should have an annual In Memoriam section, like the Oscars. No, it does not.

Seriously, if Creepy Milkshake Guy gets through to the grand final and EMMY doesn’t, I’ll be angry for at least three minutes.

I think Australia will make it through alright. I really liked the song at first but got sick of it very quickly. I still think Emmy will make it.

I think Australia is the weakest of the three "saucy" songs in SF2, so is the least likely to go through. Fingers crossed we won't see it on Saturday night.

I don't know if anyone here reads Anna's blog…she's a UK Eurofan, of similar age to myself (so no YAS QUEEN rubbish) and has (I think anyway) a reasonable take on things. She has reviewed the 2025 songs, and voted Australia as this year's worst song, a viewpoint agreeable to me. I don't agree with her opinion of San Marino though.

Zoe from Switzerland has a wonderful Swiss Medley on youtube, released yesterday. Really is beautiful - think she is a great representative for the host country!

Just checked it out on YouTube. Love it! Really impressive. I love her vocal tone.

Her entry for Switzerland this year has been one of my biggest growers. It's now one of my favourites. It deserves a Top 10 placing at least (and I think it will achieve it).

SVT has said today that it will host in 2026 should KAJ win next month.

I'm not sure I can cope with Lynda Woodruff again - she wasn't funny in 2013 and she didn't get any funnier in 2016. Last year she was just tragic, with an ill-timed song about how wonderful Martin Österdahl is, on a night when he might have been Europe's most-hated man. Petra needs to go too. Yes, she very good at the job, but I'm tired of her. Some of her jokes last year were recycled from 2013 and some "new" ones you could see coming a mile off, like the Grindr jokes in the first semi.

I believe Petra is going to SVT's commentator this year, so she clearly feels she's not done yet, unfortunately.

Thanks for the link - great blog! 🙂

Anna is spot-on about Sweden - if the song was by say, Georgia or - sob! - Moldova, we wouldn’t give it houseroom. It’ll be the annual ‘Oh god, it’s Georgia/Moldova’ comments, and will be ignored by the end of the night.

EMMY’s send off is on the Late Late Show on the 9th

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 185 ✭✭delboy85

I wonder will they display the 1-10 jury points on the screen this year instead of just slotting them into the scoreboard as they did last year.

    I really hope they do.

I wonder why they ditched it last year. It didn't save any time. And it made it so much more difficult to see what countries got points from each jury.

Next Friday (the 2nd) I think? The rehearsals in Basel start next weekend.
