We've had so much televote fodder this year, I'm glad to hear some jury bait at last.

Austria is strong and a likely jury winner.

I think the UK is a total mess though. I really can't see that doing well.

Really enjoyed ‘The Big Eurovision Party’ last night - Bambie’s new staging of ‘Doomsday Blue’ was really good. 🙂

Johnny Logan’s glitter pants - nicht so gut 😞

I didn't expect this…Malta featured on Newsnight on the BBC last night.

I'd have more respect for the Maltese delegation if they just put their hands up and admit they know what they're doing. Instead, they're continuing to play dumb and insist there is no double meaning of the word "kant." She's just "serving singing", that's all apparently. That would work of course, if "serving singing" made sense in the English language. It doesn't.

Big night tonight with San Marino, Portugal and of course Sweden picking their songs. Sweden's choice the most important of the lot, as picking Måns could result in win #8. KAJ will likely win the Swedish televote, just remains to be seen whether they'll get jury support too.

Yes Måns would likely do better for them, but the song really is pretty nondescript, and I'd love them to send something a bit less serious for once. I also have a soft spot for Dolly Style but I doubt they have any chance, so fingers crossed for KAJ!

    Wow, Sweden chose KAJ!

What a pleasant surprise! Nothing at all against Måns, but his song is beyond mediocre and would've gotten a ridiculously high and undeserved jury score.

I still think Sweden have possibly thrown away the chance to get win #8, but I'm honestly delighted to see something different from them. But having said all this, I think KAJ can still do quite well for them!

That is a bit of a shock but a good one! It was tight!

I agree with you, can't see it winning but nailed on top 5 at this stage. Man's going would have probably had more chance of winning but it is so meh as a song.

I'm so happy! It's not often that I enjoy a Swedish entry but it's my favourite this year.

I'm not convinced Mans would have done better in the contest. While the performance is good, the song is so bland and he would have had direct competition from Austria, The Netherlands and Czechia.

I could see KAJ winning the televote.

A great result, and I'm not just saying that because I can't stand Måns. Sweden has been sending overpolished, overearnest and overproduced songs for years, so it's great to see them finally send something fun. The bad news is, they've gone bonkers in a year when most other countries have as well, so this won't stand out as much as it would in a different year. Sweden is usually the jury darling but televote poison, this year will likely be the opposite. It'll easily finish in the top 3 in the public vote, and could actually win it.

There's already fans spreading conspiracy theories on social media that Sweden was all ready to send Måns, then Austria came along to possibly take the jury vote so they've decided to keep him back until he has an easier path to the win.

The Irish Jury vote really helped here, giving its 12 to Kaj and just 7 (I think) to Mans!

Yes! San Marino has gone for Tutta l'Italia, the theme song of this year's Sanremo. They're going to get their best-ever result with this, and a top 3 finish in the televote isn't out of the question.

    San Marino

Not sure about top 3 in the televote, but I'd like to think this'll bring them back to the final. Actually sounds like a football/world cup song to me.

Great choice from San Marino. I really love the song. I think it has a shot at finishing Top 10.

Wow at Sweden. I hated the song the first time I heard it but it has really grown on me. It is really fun but surely there is no chance of an 8th Swedish win (this year) now. It should do very well in the televote though.

I honestly don't know what to make of the UK entry. It's VERY musical theatre. It's different to anything else I suppose.

I love Austria. Getting winner vibes from it.

If France have something strong to bring (and I hope they do) I really think it could be their year. And I'd be happy with that.

    Portugal

It's a nice song, but I think this'll be forgotten pretty quickly on the night and qualification could be a struggle.

    Czech Republic

The song was unveiled on Friday, but don't think it actually got posted on here. I think it's alright, it's not exciting me on a first listen.

It doesn't surprise me, I remember him being rude about some of the entries when he was on that BBC podcast in the run up to Liverpool 2023. Especially Gustaph, who one of the other presenters was a huge fan of. Mans was so condescending and convinced he would NQ, even though he was a fan favourite and finished 7th.

Mans takes himself too seriously and I'm not sure he understands Eurovision as well as he thinks he does.

Same, it's no shock at all that he's a bad loser. He really thought the MF juries would either give him a landslide or tank KAJ (everyone knew KAJ was winning the public vote), but they only gave him a two-point lead going into the televote results. We all knew it was over for him then.

John Lundvik has shown himself to be an entitled, sore loser as well. None of the MF regulars can seem to accept that, for once, Sweden has gone for something different.

They've both said they won't take part in MF ever again. Can we get that in writing?

Portugal's transition from a long-time Eurovision also-ran (I remember the horrors of Non Stop in 2006) to a country you could rely on to send a quality entry is wonderful, but I feel like they've started to run out of steam. I mean, this is fine, but it does seem that Portugal has been sending this type of song for years, and a rethink is needed.

Can't believe Mans actually lost! I think KAJ will do well at Eurovision, maybe top 5 but not a winner. The thing with Swedish entries is that they never look as polished at Eurovision that they do at Melfest (unless Sweden is hosting). Also due to the 6 person rule, one of the dancers will have to go so they'll have to change the choreography. BBB is a good song but I don't think it is at the level of Cha Cha Cha or Rim Tim Tagi Dim to storm the televote but we'll see.

Portugal sent a nice song but it is too understated to cut through in a televote only semi final. What were the juries doing? They completely tanked Josh and gave the televote winner Henka 0 points.

Yay at San Marino. If the staging is fixed I think they have a good chance of qualifying.

Revolution by Mans was way too bland and predictable. I'd say a fair few international jurors and televoters were put off by just how 'safe' it was - this is what allowed the far more original and fun KAJ to sneak through and grab the win.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 892 ✭✭✭supereurope

I think the MF jurors also knew which the wind was blowing re public support for KAJ and knew tanking them would make them look out of touch

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,402 ✭✭✭✭Strazdas

Indeed, they would have to have been aware of the buzz around KAJ. The result is very good for MF - for too long it has been dominated by safe and middle of the road stuff, KAJ are very much outside the box.

Israel's song is released at 9:15pm tonight, if it's good then it's a possible winner. They'll still get big televote support, and juries might find it harder to tank if it's actually a good song.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 892 ✭✭✭supereurope

I don't think anyone, including the EBU, wants to even think about going back to Tel Aviv next year. Even if it's a good song, I can't see the jury vote going big for it.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,790 Mod ✭✭✭✭yerwanthere123

    Israel

As generic as I was expecting it to be. I'd say it's slightly stronger than last year, and might enjoy some more jury support. The question is just how much televote support they'll get. I'm guessing it won't be as strong as last year, but think it'll probably still be somewhere in the 250 points region.

My guess at this stage is it'll finish somewhere between 4th and 8th, but hopefully considerably lower, however unlikely that is.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 892 ✭✭✭supereurope

I could just copy and paste what you said - I feel exactly the same. It's slightly stronger than Hurricane, but is still just an average ballad. Huge televote support to come, hopefully the juries will keep it down somewhat. It does nothing new, so shouldn't impress the juries too much. Like Hurricane, if any other country sent it, it wouldn't get out of the semi.

I only just found out that its the same songwriter as Hurricane - and it shows.

Israel song is ok if a little dull. Personally I thought last years was stronger. No doubt the manipulated tele vote will get it to the final but I can’t see it going down particularly well with the juries.

On another note: When will the Malta situation be sorted I wonder. I actually like the two other risquee songs (Australia and Finland) - they allude to adult themes without being too crass.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 892 ✭✭✭supereurope

I believe today (10th March) is the deadline for all entries to be approved by the EBU. The songs don't have to be released publicly by this date, but the EBU has to have agreed to them all by today. So I imagine Malta will be resolved by today, though we might not know the outcome until later.
