Hi, yes thankfully my dealer told me this when handling over the car. You need to have the car unlocked at least to begin charging, you can lock then and unlocked to remove the charger after you are done. I find the phone app useful to let me know when its ready. If you leave the "engine" on as it were (like I first did) you might have issues locking / unlocking from the fob. I used the phone app to do it, but the car would not shutdown until I had completed the charge. Maybe that is normal, but to a newb like me it was worrisome. Now I know it does not need to be on, just unlocked at start , then lock it and can leave it to charge away.

Perhaps those more experience can advise best practices?

Could ye get longer diagonally? maybe we could have a countrywide competition to find the max length you can get in (safely) with the doors closed? lol. Seriously nice to see, useful for those Billy bookcases from Ikea or similar.

I’d imagine it’s fairly accurate , I’m Going to get the Hyundai charge card when I take delivery of mine this weekend and get blue link activated. I’ll be doing pretty much all my charging at home bar the odd few trips a year out of Dublin so not having to worry about multiple apps to start charging and having all the costs in one place just makes sense. Was looking at the chargemyhyundai companion app and just like Kia’s charge card you get access to every charging network in Ireland (Esb, Epower, Ionity, Applegreen etc.) all billed through one direct debit. Companion app also has live charger status for all supported providers. Think they offer 2 different plans, a pay as you charge (flexi) with no kWh discount with a €7.50 once off activation fee for the NFC card they post our to you and then a €4.99/m subscription (Smart) which gives you up to 20c off per kWh with select providers like Ionity and ESB DC chargers. Saw somewhere that the plug and charge feature that’s on the ioniq 5,6 and new kona will come to the inster with a software update later in the year (already available in a few Asian markets) so if you have signed up to the hyundai service you’ll be able to just plug in and the charge will start without having to use a card or an app, I imagine the charger will just communicate with the car to authenticate the charge. Seems a very convenient alternative to having to have multiple apps.

Thanks - just signed up for Charge myHyundai. I had assumed like most things it wouldn't be available in Ireland - I'm looking at you Samsung Pay!

I came accross a can of Aldi cream chalk effect spray paint in the shed and decided to spray paint my black android auto/carplay usb wireless dongle - not a bad match.

@digitdr - does the dongle work well? Can you post a link to where you got it please?

My wife has ordered an Inster so this would be handy if it works.

    TIA

I got it on Aliexpress. Works very well on Android Auto and Carplay, connects quickly and no lag in use. There are load of sellers and you can get it for even cheaper now. Shipping time was about 10 days. If you want it quicker Amazon have lots of them too but you'll pay more for something that is the exact same or has the same internals. https://a.aliexpress.com/_EIdSqq8

I found an inster like car icon on Google maps.

I found the built in navigation very inaccurate. If you put the same destinations in google maps you get very different distances.

Nothing beats google maps, I've never used built in nav in any car I've owned. Would love if the Inster had google automotive.

It has been discussed here and elsewhere a few times.

    https://www.boards.ie/discussion/2058198975/non-dealer-dashcam-invalidates-warranty

Are Halfords safe for dashcam installation, or is it going to be done by a rookie 22 year old petrolhead?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,282 ✭✭✭SteM

Nothing in that thread confirms an invalid warranty tbf.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,893 ✭✭✭✭AndrewJRenko

It confirms that the issue has come up with warranty providers. There's other threads on a similar vein, here and on Reddit.

I'd really prefer not to be having that argument five years down the road.

I'd see a dashcam as pretty much essential on a €20k vehicle, so I just want to find a way that won't screw me up in the future.

In my experience, the charge my Hyundai card is one of the most expensive ways to pay for a charge, unless you've received an offer to get discounted rates? It's good as a fallback to have in the car, but the ESB eCars card is a much cheaper option.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,282 ✭✭✭SteM

You're not going to get screwed in the future. There are 1000s of dashcam installed in cars in this country, if this was a problem we'd be hearing about it all the time rather than 2 threads that are ancient, one of which was debunked in thread by the OP when they contacted head office.

I'm sure you'll continue to make a mountain out of a non-existant molehill though Andrew.

So who would be a good supplier to fit a dashcam to a Hyundai then?

The Inster is definitely good value but to fair to the Ioniq 28, it’s a much bigger car. EV database also indicates that the Ioniq 28 is slightly more efficient. I assume this is down to a more aerodynamic body shape.

Yes after doing some research if your going with pay as you go the ESB card is the cheapest by a good bit. For comparison ESB is 0.59 cents for a fast charger and the ionity 0.79 thats a big difference.

Another one worth having is EasyGo. But only at Lidl shops. 50c/kW there. A good few only have 11kW chargers, but they also have 50kW DC.

Test drove an Inster today, really liked it, will likely be putting a deposit on one. But out of interest does the Irish Inster have blind spot cameras I've seen mentioned on reviews? Didn't seem to work on the one I test drove today ( it might have been disabled though)

no it’s on uk higher spec I think but not on either of Irish versions

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,258 ✭✭✭Meesared

That's a pity, it's funny Kearys are advertising it as being on it on their site though

How much is insurance generally on the Inster ? We're picking our's up at the end of April & trading in a Hybrid, should we expect a large increase ?

Any able bodied person that can plug a power cord into a usb port or 12v ciggy plug. It’s really that simple unless you are talking about integrated installs.

Simple fuse piggyback adapters can be used to get power only when the car wakes up or switches on.

It’s really a basic level install.

Took one for test drive yesterday, really just kicking the tyres of changing at this stage, dealer said prices are going up by 500 on March 16th, but if order placed before then you get the price it is now (Also sold out now, but getting more in April)

Your own insurance will depend on your age, penalty points, occupation, location etc but I can't imagine an inster being more expensive than anything else comparable, its not a racey car or anything although ive hears of young inexperienced people having big problems on any EVs, which I understand, there's too much low down power instantly available ....I have a 300bhp EV insured for high 400 euros in Dublin, i started messing around putting in different cars and it didnt change much, sometimes not at all......I'm not paying any more now than when I had ICE cars or hybrid cars. Make sure you shop around

Don't underestimate my gross incompetence at anything mechanical or electrical. I'm really not going to trust myself to feck around with a brand new car. I'm not going to have wires hanging or dangling either in a brand new car.

So it's either pay OTT to get Hyundai to fit it or find someone else do fit one at a reasonable price.

    All suggestions welcome.

Does the Inster have a power out socket on the rear view mirror, by any chance?
