I’d like to smear Mans in Nutella as much as the next person, but his song is very dated.

Like a Poundland ‘Heroes’, even shades of ‘Counting Stars’ by OneRepublic.

I actually choked laughing on that. GG

Now lets discuss why Louane is bringing the title home to France this year.

Forgot to post on the thread, but Armenia selected their song on Sunday

    Armenia

Am away at the moment so will catch up on Armenia, Azerbaijan and Mans' song when I get home. Am excited to hear the French song, there's a lot of hype before it's even been selected. France have been knocking on the door for the last few years, and I think a Paris Eurovision would be fantastic!

Surprisingly decent song from Azerbaijan, not their usual ‘home before the postcards’ entries (TuralTuranX in 2023 springs to mind).

    Nutella Rating: 7/10

Great song from Armenia too - bonus points for Parg’s Winter Soldier-type cyber arm - he could chop celery at lightspeed (something to incorporate into his performance).

    Nutella Rating: 8/10

After two "Super Saturdays", it's a pretty quiet weekend coming up, with only Iceland selecting its entry. Not in Ireland's semi, so no impact on us.

We'll hear both the Dutch and Australian entries over the course of week. Australia is in our semi, our half too.

Olly is not going to Eurovision. Lucio now should get the option

    Full translation.

I've been asking myself questions for days and asking everyone's opinions, the answer is always the same: "in the end you have to do what you feel like", because everyone knows how much it means to me to be myself, always. Here, I don't think you would be sad if I moved some concerts for Eurovision, but I firmly believe that I need to connect with everything that is happening to me, before looking even further ahead, before continuing with my beloved live apprenticeship which I always talk about with infinite pride.I therefore decided to give up the opportunity to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest, with the awareness that it is one of those things that happens to you perhaps only once in your life.I thank those who voted for me and gave me the opportunity to have this privilege: I hope to see you soon at one of my concerts to reciprocate all the love I am receiving these days. For me this decision is my way of listening to myself and maybe also my twisted way of saying thank you. Some will say that I'm giving up on a dream, but I think I've just chosen to live it in my own time.I wish a huge amount of good luck to whoever will take my place: music in Italy is full of formidable artists and this year's cast is the most sincere proof of this.Always believe it!Something is changing and it is there for all to see.I hug you and see you on tour,Federico

I think Olly has made the right call. Cancelling his Italian shows would disappoint his home fanbase while not guaranteeing any international success. Plus, I don't think he's a great singer and song was nothing special. He'd have still scraped into the top 10 I'm sure, but would that really be worth the logical nightmare of rescheduling shows?

My understanding is that the offer will be made to Lucio, but he doesn't have to go to Basel with Volevo essere un duro, which I don't think would be that accessible to European audiences. Whatever he decides, I hope he brings Topo Gigio along.

It has just been confirmed by RAI that Lucio will be the artist with Volevo essere un duro

so why did he enter then, depriving someone else of a spot in the local contest…?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,747 ✭✭✭✭odyssey06

Its not just the local contest to select someone for Eurovision. It is San Remo music festival which is massive in Italy, has wide viewership in Europe and predates the Eurovision.

Mans just went DTF. Catch up on his performance here.

KAJ got the 2nd DTF spot

Ella Tiritiello took the Final chance spot

I love this, a much better option than Olly for me. Hard to know how it will do but it's a quality entry.

Icelandic Jedward have just taken the win. Was a decent National final and one i really enjoyed.

Melodifestivalen has been poor enough this year. Stand out for me is Klara Hammarstrom but it seems Mans is a certainty unfortunately.

Another country has gone for an "unserious" entry. There's a real opportunity for any country that decides to send a strong, well-sung ballad to storm the jury vote.

Finally back home and gave Revolution a listen tonight.

Honestly... I got winner vibes from the performance. Yes the song is basic enough, but we know juries will be all over this, plus his vocals are great.

A jury sweep plus 3rd/4th in the televote would easily be enough to see this over the line. Honestly think we might already be looking at the winner, but obviously there's still plenty of songs to come, so let's see.

I fear you might be right @yerwanthere123. If this does happen and he wins due to a jury sweep, I think there needs to be a conversation about bringing juries back to the semis again. As much as I loved Nemo's song, it's not great for the contest when a song that comes fifth with the public gets the win.

Having a huge number of televote friendly songs and a small number of jury friendly songs in the final just skews everything. It also gives the Big 5 the advantage of being able to send jury bait without having to take the risk of it getting stuck in the semis.

Mans is a great performer and he may very well be a runaway winner in Basel, but the actual song and lyrics are dreadfully bland. If Ireland or the UK sent it, it would probably be bottom 5 in the final.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 892 ✭✭✭supereurope

Hard agree. The juries will absolutely fall over themselves to vote for him unfortunately.

I'm amazed how many people still aren't getting this, while still complaining about jury sweeps in the grand final. It's crystal clear why we have two years of jury landslide winners…viewer-friendly songs that juries won't vote for now form the majority of the grand final lineup. With so little "jury fodder" now, of course they'll concentrate their votes on certain songs. Like many fans, I knew making the semis 100% televote again wouldn't end well.

Unfortunately, I fear the EBU will just make the final 100% televote too. We've been here before, and I'm old enough to remember how horrible the 2000s were for the contest.

I would hope they'd have enough sense not to go there, especially now that Israel and Ukraine are guaranteed massive televote scores.

It just needs to be balanced, as having different scoring systems in the semis makes no sense. It was really just a lazy solution to jury corruption.

My personal preference would be the MGP approach in Norway, a 60/40 split in favour of the public vote. But it has to be consistent across semis and final.

I agree it is just so bland.

He is a good performer and a decent singer, but the lyrics are especially poor they are like something generated by AI and the song is just so safe.

I also doubt they will allow the paper etc on a Eurovision stage.

This also qualified for the final in Sweden. It's a lot of fun!

I've never understood why the EBU thought the solution to jury vote rigging was to abolish the juries instead of making changes to the jury system. My solution would be to go back to the pre-televote jury voting method, with 16 jury members (much harder to corrupt 16 people instead of just five) who are each required to award between one and 10 votes to each song straight after it has been performed, with no abstentions allowed. I don't understand the logic in asking the juries to rank the songs from 1st to 25th place. I mean, how do you decide to rank a song 17th or 18th? What criteria would you use?

Abolishing the juries was the easy answer.

The infamous "Song for Europe" of Fr Ted is on right now, and it's a bit worrying when you think things like "Well, Fr Dick Byrne couldn't possibly go to Eurovision with that staging, it breaks the six on stage rule."

Louane's song will be premiered at the Stade de France during half time of the France-Scotland six nations match on Saturday, March 15th. France must think they've got something big up their sleeve, because that's quite a launch for a Eurovision song.

Melodifestivalen possibly not quite the Måns procession we thought it might be, he's well behind KAJ on both Spotify streaming and YouTube views. I imagine juries will scupper their chances and ensure the 'right' act is sent, but I would kinda laugh if Måns didn't even make it to Eurovision!

Take a dive into the Discography of Louane. She is an amazing singer.

The Aussie entry is as creepy as the strange Milky Milky man from the Mary Whitehouse Experience…
