It's a great 3 matches to getting before championship amd the team needs to start resembling a championship team. Id like to see fionnan macekssey tried at 6 if he was fit and mikey and blanchfield on the wings. He has a presence, very good striker and what better game to test a lad out. I'd also like to see kk push up more against opposition puckouts and force goalies to go long. The backs to date have being OK but the biggest disappointment is none of the newer lads have done enough. I would like to see Stephen donnelly and Harry shine start again this weekend but id like to see a massive improvement in the delivery of ball because kk will get a lesson on movement and playing weighted passes into the attack.

So which is it? On the one hand you give out that management don't have a clue who their 6 is yet and that they should settle on a 6 and stick with him. Now you are saying you would like to see yet another player tried there! You would be the very one to criticise them if they did that!

Shine did not look fit or impress against a poor Wexford team. He was a sub on a poor Fitzgibbon team in Maynooth. Am i missing something ?

Having listened to our Co board chairman on the Kilkenny hurling pod it’s easy to see why we are where we are

He was at pains to point out multiple times about the board retaining there amateur ethos and when pushed about the development in dunmore a vague target of 5 years was given and when asked how could people get involved his response was ah sher give me a ring if you want to help out

Such a vague awkward interview not a shred excitement about anything in relation to the development

And listening to Michael Fennelly the previous week about the academy he also mentioned multiple times his role was part time and he needed more bodies and that the gaa is professional now and not amateur

While he’s doing a great job it appears he’s operating with one hand tied behind his back with our current board

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 351 ✭✭Nedflanders02

I would agree with you in regards to our current chairman, for a man who is supposed to be the front and centre of everything Kilkenny GAA related he is an exceptionally poor speaker and doesn't inspire any confidence. With regard to the development in Dunmore I think they are still awaiting the final plans and from what I've hear there will be a development committee put in place to look after this, Phil Hogan likely to be involved in this also.

I could be wrong on this but is Mick Fennelly's role not part time by his choice? The role as advertised was a full time roll but he didn't want the job on a full time basis as he is currently working with Setanta college (I think) and also wanted to keep this going, which is understandable on his part also.

A big crowd expected Sunday mostly Limerick our own poor supporters might and mightn’t go depending on the weather or some other lame excuses, and then feel they have the right to criticise after watching it on TV

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 313 ✭✭jamesbond2022

I understand there’s nothing finalised but god he didn’t answer a single question with any sort of conviction and just skated around any type of questions It was car crash stuff

I can’t imagine many other co board chairman coming across so clueless and lacking any kind of drive or enthusiasm for a project

Yes Fennelly’s role is part time as his lecturing is his bread and butter

It just came across as he was asking for a bit more help with what he was trying to do and didn’t have enough people to help him at the moment

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 351 ✭✭Nedflanders02

At the CB meeting last week he talked about how they had met with all the various stakeholders about the development and that they had a 3 hour meeting but when pressed on any of the details he hadn't a clue, he couldn't say if there would be 5 or 6 pitched, how many would have floodlights, if any would be all weather. I don't have anything against him, he comes across as a lad trying to do his best and has the best intentions I just think he's out of dept and not up to the role he's in, I can't imagine him heading up a project to go looking for investment from any of the big businesses or sponsors. In his defence I think he still has a full time job, whereas most of his predecessors were retired and able to commit 100% to the job.

Apologies I think I took you up incorrectly over what Fennelly was saying.

Is Phil Hogan involved in any way with CB stuff now, or did he do the report and then move on? Would be good to know there's someone with a bit of wherewithal taking care of the financial side of things!

Limerick's back up cast didn't impress and looked a bit callow against Kilkenny when the intensity was turned up in the league semi final last year - after earring a lot of plaudits in the preceding league. It remains to be seen how many of those break in and what their level truly is. As previously pointed out by a poster - they have the advantage of training with an awesome group. We will for sure learn more on Sunday but I'm not even sure that will be a true measurement of their ability that we can draw conclusions on. I'm comparing them with what what Limerick have had over the last 5/6 years.

Forwards have to earn the right to hurl which means there is a big importance on physical readiness. And your body has to stand up to whatever you need to do to get to and sustain that level. Lazy analysis on my part would say that level is much greater now and that most of the top forwards are now built like linebackers with the speed of a gazelle. So the bar to break through is higher.

If there was a transfer market how many top forwards under 21 would you bet your tens of millions on?

He's not officially involved with CB, he did the report last year to increase sponsorship and open doors to help get increased sponsorship and donations and to help put corporate governance structures in place etc.. but had handed that back to the CB to keep it going and was said he wouldn't be involved in keeping it going. It was mentioned however, that he was involved in the meeting regarding the new development and may be on the committee who will be overseeing the development. It's a pity someone couldn't persuade him to run for chairman next year, he's exactly the type of person we need running the board.

well actually I think Phil Hogan should be appointed project manager of the proposed development his vast knowledge of local government law, i.e.planning permission, an bord planala etc. would be invaluable but of course this won’t happen because the CB will get scared when the cost comes into play and won’t go through with the full project and do it piecemeal which they have done for years. I trust here that all posters would have there own vision of what the project should be but I think the upper echelons of the C B has absolutely no vision and if you have no vision then you have no plan and no future.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,277 ✭✭✭Marrooned

no one like yourself Ned in trying to get Big Phil elected as chairman, I for one would put my total trust in you and there is no time like the present to start investigating the possibility and really it doesn’t have to be Phil it could be anyone with a bit of vision and a lot of commensense. Let’s start the hunt now for candidates.

Hadn’t a clue was how he came across in the interview all a bit hap hazard

Although he didn’t want the full time job I think Fennelly was having a bit of a backhands dig at the Co board basically saying he can only do so much and it was a massive job that need a lot more people involved

surely kilkenny at nolan park at 2/1 is free

Money this sunday. Lump on i say

Following Limerick scoring 30 points against a good Tipperary team, most Kilkenny supporters that I have spoken to are dreading a bit of a trouncing on Sunday. In any case, Kilkenny will have a good idea where they stand after the league matches against Lk, Tipp and Cork

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,277 ✭✭✭Marrooned

we had the same fear last year in Cork we were packing up to go home after 10 minutes and look how that turned out. Get behind your team and drive them on the more support the better. Don’t let the fear of losing turn you off. It’s now you need the support not when we had that fantastic team.

To be honest I approached 2 other people a couple of years ago about standing but both declined for differing reasons. I don't think Big Phil would be interested in being chairman, I think it suits him better to be able to jump in and out when has too, I would never have been a fan of his during his political days but he has done a lot of good for Kilkenny GAA over the last 12/18 months.

I actually hated him as a political figure and all his party stood for,but I met him recently in GAA circles and I was most impressed with him and I’m from the far, far side of the equation. T.A.L.🇮🇪. Without knowing you Ned you could be the one that has what it takes, you seem to be very grounded and smart and I would say most if not all the posters would agree with me.

Dreadful interview by pj Kenny. Kilkenny would be a long time waiting for the likes of pj to impress investors and go after lads for sponsorship. My god that was chronic. All goes back to just appoint who's handy and won't rock the boat. When you compare him to what michael duignan brought to offally. He can't even speak off the cuff. It's not his fault he isn't up to it,it's the powers that be that appointed him. He is way out of his depth.

Three big matches coming up that will define the league. Kilkenny will get a lesson how to use space and the quality of ball going into their attack. It won't be drove at them a hundred miles an hour. Even though Limerick could be down 7 or 8 players the system doesn't change. They all know what they are doing. Alot of their new comers have done well. Its early in the year but kk haven't unearthed anything yet, no better place to start then against limerick. This league is about trying to find a few players to replace the couple of retirements but it looks like it will be more or less the same team that havent being good enough.I'd expect kk to definitely rise it and its more important to the home side to get the win or the minimum a good performance.

Best of luck to cbs. Hopefully they can pick it up after the heartbreaking defeat the last day.

Id say the pitch might be rough enough Sunday after the rain last night and a camogie match on Saturday.

Hopefully it doesn't slow the game down to a ruck fest

Agree with the comments here about the Co Board. I understand they are volunteers are have the best interests of Kilkenny GAA in their hearts, but the fact remains that compared to our peer counties, we have poor amateur representatives in what's effectively a professional era. Co Board should be run like a large company with a highly competent CEO at the helm, and empower him/her to run it accordingly. Unfortunately it's a bit of an old boys club in there and appointments are generally political to allow certain lads hold their influence.

interesting to see the Kilkenny line up. Heard a couple of the Fitz lads have been added to panel. We're not near as bad as some of the doom and gloom merchants make out. We beat Clare in 2023 convincingly, should 100% have beaten them year, and they currently sit as All Ireland Champions.

CBS bet by three points with a last minute goal. I wasn’t expecting that, I would have thought they would have been too strong.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 99 ✭✭Sir Chaz

I'd say they should have been too strong, definitely a shock to lose that, Claregalwya were bet out the gate in the previous game. I'd suspect complacency played a big part today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 461 ✭✭Alonzo Moseley

CBS will be terribly dissapointed with that, and Kierans will have it all to do now versus Pres Athenry, who are long overdue an AI win. I'd say winners of that semi will win it out.

Athenry have had stong teams for nearly a decade now and I'd say would have won at least one AI but for Covid.

CBS threw the game away. Missed several scoreable frees and two gilt edged goal chances. On the run of play, they were 4 or 5 points the better side but didn’t put it on the scoreboard. Claregalway were a point ahead when they scored the goal at the end and that was just out of CBS pushing everyone up to find an equaliser.
