Are we really going to keep seeing Dalot down the left? He's dreadful.

United could be in big trouble regarding injuries again. Bad memories of this time last year.

Rashford looked lively when he came on. Good free kick hit the bar and Watkins got the rebound. Ipswich have a poor enough full back in Johnson and Rashford was having plenty of joy taking him on. Shame he couldn’t put in these showing for us this season but hope he does enough for Villa to make the deal permanent.

Delap is a good striker already with more potential. Think I saw an article on the Athletic saying City have a buy back clause for £40m. Should be in for him if the opportunity come up.

Amad out is a huge blow. Rest of the season is going to be an even bigger slog than it looked.

Is it not only Amad injured? Shows how light they are I guess…

Not getting an attacking player and a central midfielder in January is going to absolutely kill us now.

Makes it hugely difficult for amorim to build a flow and confidence in the side now.

Loaning out Antony, when we had been using him, without replacement as risky as I feared it would be.

I don't think we have any suitable, usable youth waiting in those positions either.

I wonder if they have a call back option on Antony's loan deal. They'll have to consider triggering it if so.

Mainoo out as well, urgarte with a small injury and Collyer ill, apparently. Ugarte and Collyer will be fine for the next game.

I meant from the frontline but I guess Mainoo been playing there...

Were they playing Squid games in training this week? Losing 4 players in one week during training is criminal.

It's all good though, Dorgu was bought to play RWB and not LWB which has been a huge problem all season so we just ignored it.

Well, we have been told for a while now that he never gets any time to train with the players, so this week might have been the first chance for some more intensive sessions.

The players falling apart when pushed hard would be consistent with what happened in Ten Hags time.

Yikes. Talk about rivaling your opponents... This time on the injury list. Licha plus 4 new players out, Mount and Shaw not back and having let Rashford, Malacia and Antony go makes us extremely thin.

We're aiming for top 12-14 at this rate

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,937 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

I wouldn't have thought the training would be overly intense.

I'd assume loads of tactical work and repitition rather than hard sprints.

Collyer is ill. Not a training issue.

Amad did his ankle ligament. That's a contact or falling issue rather than intensity of training I would have though.

Mainoo and Ugarte I have no idea whether their injuries would point to a training overload.

Its the amad injury that I'm the most down about. And most annoyed about. We put so much importance on him in this side, too much, and now he's gone for the season. We essentially bet on him being available for every game and we've lost that hard.

Proves out January to be a poor month for united, whether it was financially required to be or not.

I wonder if we will now see dorgu in attack rather than wingback more.

This is the exact issue I feared would happen when we decided not to replace Antony or Rashford. Absolutely criminal.

The squad was already threadbare before we let those 3 walk out the door. The Rashford one had to happen but why let your only fit LB leave the day after Shaw falls apart again and you’ve already lost Martinez for 9-12 months. I also don’t understand the Antony one either. He was doing okay in his cameos from the bench, seems to work hard for the team, and was always available. It’s like the club torpedoed whatever chance we had of salvaging the season for no good reason.

Academy lads can't be much worse than what's currently there so would be happy to see Obi and Amass get some game time.

I thought Shaw was nearly ready a few weeks back? Not the first time I know…

Wafer thin squad at the moment

It points to a lot of physicality in the training sessions if we are seeing 3 players out with knocks. Whether that is running or full blown training matches with the players flying into each other I don’t know but it’s unusual to lose so many in such a short period of time.

Shaw was 2 weeks away back in August. He must be stuck near the event horizon of a massive black hole where time dilation means it’s 2 weeks for him but 6 months for everyone else.

Antony had to go, his confidence was clearly shot and it was best for both parties for him to go elsewhere and find it again.

The problem is deciding not to sign anybody to bolster the squad, even if it were just a cheap stopgap.

They made their choice, they will have to live or die by it.

Amorim has already addressed this, he was playing on the right because that's were he had been playing this season prior to his move so he thought it would have been easier for him to integrate him there. He views him for the left side

Never thought I'd say it but Leon bailey might have even been better than this

I’m going to come across as an old fart here but are modern day players too quick to pull up with injuries.

I remember reading about Keane and how getting onto the pitch was his No. 1 priority every week. If he had a little niggle he would try to hide it to some degree and manage it himself. Similarly I remember Lampard saying something similar - he wanted to be on the pitch to help his team. If he had a knock, he’d strap it up and still power on.

These days, it seems as though a player “feels” something and gets ruled out for weeks.

Also, I wouldn’t say playing in this Utd team is the most enjoyable experience, and the players aren’t the mentally strongest we’ve ever had at the club, hence why we are were we are, so if there’s an easy get out, would they take it?

Hard to say - I think I recall Keane and Scholes saying the modern game is more athletic than what it used to be. That would place more physical demands on players. The medical support has improved - I would think that means there is less expectation on a player to "power through" if the medical advice the club is paying for is that ignoring the injury will aggravate it. Manager can and do get slaughtered if they pressurise a player to "power through" and the injury flares up. Players do seem to have longer careers, perhaps connected to not playing through injuries like they used to. It all counts against just strapping up the injury and getting on with it.

I think definitely players are broadly more professional than they used to be. In the early 1990s, routine drinking during the season was accepted and a normal part of the player culture in top teams. Its not anymore.

There are players who seem to be almost constantly available like Bruno, and Maguire, but while mental strength can be an aspect of it it can simply be down to genetics, position played not requiring the same sudden stress/strain or luck too. Martinez for example doesn't seem like a mentally weak person.
