Checked with the dealer if any news on my Inster. They are still waiting apparently and I wasn't given any further info. I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up being March after all.

Mine was due in on the same boat, and was due to be ready this week. But spoke to dealer on Saturday and apparently it wasn't actually on that boat and is still in transit and it'll likely be two more weeks, week of 10th Feb. I had heard anecdotally (maybe someone mentioned in this thread above?) last week that the dealers ended up requesting more demo models than expected and most of that boatload from Jan 20th (20-25 cars I think) have gone to the dealers.

When ordering back in November I managed a peek at the Hyundai ordering system and noted that some cars were due on a Jan 30th shipment (in addition to the Jan 20th shipment). So I guess my car is on that later shipment and maybe yours.

Given my previous unfortunate experience with Hyundai and their archaic ordering system i'd nearly settle for an anytime in 2025 delivery! 😀

Does anyone know where the Ships come into in Ireland, or if they are delivered to UK or Belgium and them transferred to Ireland? When I bought a Tesla I got a VIN and I was able to find which Ship it was loaded on and track it. It looks like Hyundai use EUKOR ships but they only seem to go to UK or Europe not Ireland. The dealer seems clueless and has given me a numebr of different dates in March and April, I'd say they just tell you whatever comes to mind when you ask.

Transferred to Ireland from Belgium would be on a ship. No other way of making that journey with a load of cars. Not sure they'd come through the UK now with Brexit, but maybe a few transporters on a RoRo vessel if the quantities are small.

So it would be hard to tell if it's just a few 40 foot transporters going on RoRo ferries.

The ID3 is a much bigger car and would appeal to VW golf drivers. The Inster is effectively the EV version of the iX20 so would appeal to drivers of the VW polo, ford fiesta and other small car drivers

Most cars for the Irish market manufactured outside of the EU go to Zeebrugge before being loaded on to a smaller ship to Dublin, Cork or Roslare

I did the same with the Teslas as well, so I actually asked my dealer the other day which ship it was on. All he said was that they usually come on 'Hyundai ships' from Turkey and Czech Rep (presumably he's referring to their plant here) into Cork or Dublin ports.

But of course i'd take that with a pinch of salt, the dealers don't have a clue. A few years back I ordered an Ioniq5 with expected delivery date of 5 months. Almost 10 months (and five postponed delivery dates) later the delivery timeframe had somehow increased to between 5-7 months so I cancelled. Hopefully things have improved since then, but i'm not overly confident

Was that not around the time where Covid caused all sorts of problems with supply chains and manufacturing?

Having sat in both I wouldn't say it's much bigger. Certainly not something that would sway my decision.

Ordered June 2022, cancelled and got deposit refunded in April 2023. Maybe it was Covid impacted, but there were shipments of Ioniq5s being delivered (and one of my mates ordered in Nov 2022 and took delivery in Jan/Feb 2023). The spec I ordered in the colour they had me down for (I didn't care what colour I got) either wasn't being shipped or was being assigned elsewhere. But they strung me along, it was always 'on the next ship' even though they didn't have a clue where it was.

I hope this starts a trend of smaller EVs because the current trend is making car parks increasingly squeezy.

    Ms

I would the fact that you never really specified a particular colour meant the people who had took priority and they were just waiting for one in a colour that no wanted for you but it never happened as it was so popular. I could of course be wrong too though. Maybe you were just dealing with a crap Hyundai dealer.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

off to Turin in the morning to drive the new Panda. This will be the year of the small EV.

If it was your money would you be more likely to buy the Inster over the Spring?

To me the Inster looks the better buy.

Yes. Spring is a good buy if you go for the really base model but the higher spec is just too close to this price wise and this doesn’t feel as budget.

Nobby, great video, I ordered a 49kwh Inster a few weeks back I saw it at the NEVO show though it looked very well kitted out and not cheap at all especially compared to the Spring. you said it has V2L the Garage I ordered from wasn't sure that it had , did the car in your video actually have the outlet or the adapter?

Be interested in seeing your take on the Panda too, it look pretty cool.

My dealer confirmed yesterday what another dealer had hinted to me back on the 17th January, that there is a stop-sale on the Insters that have arrived in the country in the last couple of weeks (so no deliveries or test drives). Specific details I got yesterday was that there's an electric motor bracket that needs to be replaced on them, these are being flown over at present, and they are planning to start rolling them out then at the end of the first week in February.

They mentioned that there's (if I recall correctly) 150 of them in the country at present.

I think mine has been in the country since last week, or even the end of the week before, and has chassis number assigned - my dealer had only mentioned something about the car being in customs to me last week (23rd) but I've seen an Inster elsewhere in a showroom already in Mooney's Long Mile Road.

In order to cut the price on them it would appear Irish cars will have a little less spec than the UK. Heat pump, digital key and V2L don’t seem to be a thing here which is a shame. I was working off the usual places I would research for spec sheets but without any comms from the importer in Ireland yet, I was working in the dark a little.

The Elegance 49kW has a heat pump, but you're right about the digital key and V2L which you can get in the tech pack in the UK, but not here.

Not having the option for 360 camera, blind spot warnings/monitor cameras, or sunroof - in addition to the digital key and V2L you mentioned, is a bit of a bummer. As is the light interior only being available with the buttercream yellow exterior.

Ref for hear pump/battery heater: https://www.hyundai.ie/new-inster/specs.html (under Convenience)

I'm hoping charge port V2L will be supported if I purchase the adapter down the line. This was the case with the Ioniq 5, where even lower trims without V2L adapter included just needed a purchase of the adapter. Maybe even a retrofit of the interior V2L socket will be possible... But I won't hold my breath on that in particular!

not sure why they don’t have 3 levels here and let people pay more if they want but they might feel there isn’t a market for a higher priced Inster, it could be that certain packs add too much VRT etc

My local dealer is telling me they will have it by end of Feb. Is that possible? Reached out to another one and they are saying April.

I haven't placed order yet but I'm bit cautious as I need the car ASAP and can't really wait another 2-3 months.

We ordered the Signature and I'll certainly try our Ioniq 5 V2L adaptor with it. I don't rely on it, but I expect it to work…

If I understood the chatter regarding Kona EVs when they came out originally in 2019 correctly.

Each dealer back then got an allocation of x amount of cars.

If that's still in play then the April guy has simply probably sold the cars allocated to him as far as April.

Whereas the February dealer hasn't sold as many.

Remember that February could be the 28th and April could be the 1st meaning as little as 4.5 weeks between them.

Is there a small/compact EV thread, because that the segment I'll be most interested in. Most of our driving is urban so little interest in long distance cruisers or big SUVs.
