The Hyundai INSTER sub-compact EV with 355km range will be officially released later this month. It was teased today and based on the CASPER ICE model available in some markets. Thoughts?
Having sat in both I wouldn't say it's much bigger. Certainly not something that would sway my decision.
Was that not around the time where Covid caused all sorts of problems with supply chains and manufacturing?
I did the same with the Teslas as well, so I actually asked my dealer the other day which ship it was on. All he said was that they usually come on 'Hyundai ships' from Turkey and Czech Rep (presumably he's referring to their plant here) into Cork or Dublin ports.
But of course i'd take that with a pinch of salt, the dealers don't have a clue. A few years back I ordered an Ioniq5 with expected delivery date of 5 months. Almost 10 months (and five postponed delivery dates) later the delivery timeframe had somehow increased to between 5-7 months so I cancelled. Hopefully things have improved since then, but i'm not overly confident
Most cars for the Irish market manufactured outside of the EU go to Zeebrugge before being loaded on to a smaller ship to Dublin, Cork or Roslare
The ID3 is a much bigger car and would appeal to VW golf drivers. The Inster is effectively the EV version of the iX20 so would appeal to drivers of the VW polo, ford fiesta and other small car drivers
Transferred to Ireland from Belgium would be on a ship. No other way of making that journey with a load of cars. Not sure they'd come through the UK now with Brexit, but maybe a few transporters on a RoRo vessel if the quantities are small.
So it would be hard to tell if it's just a few 40 foot transporters going on RoRo ferries.
Does anyone know where the Ships come into in Ireland, or if they are delivered to UK or Belgium and them transferred to Ireland? When I bought a Tesla I got a VIN and I was able to find which Ship it was loaded on and track it. It looks like Hyundai use EUKOR ships but they only seem to go to UK or Europe not Ireland. The dealer seems clueless and has given me a numebr of different dates in March and April, I'd say they just tell you whatever comes to mind when you ask.
Mine was due in on the same boat, and was due to be ready this week. But spoke to dealer on Saturday and apparently it wasn't actually on that boat and is still in transit and it'll likely be two more weeks, week of 10th Feb. I had heard anecdotally (maybe someone mentioned in this thread above?) last week that the dealers ended up requesting more demo models than expected and most of that boatload from Jan 20th (20-25 cars I think) have gone to the dealers.
When ordering back in November I managed a peek at the Hyundai ordering system and noted that some cars were due on a Jan 30th shipment (in addition to the Jan 20th shipment). So I guess my car is on that later shipment and maybe yours.
Given my previous unfortunate experience with Hyundai and their archaic ordering system i'd nearly settle for an anytime in 2025 delivery! 😀
Checked with the dealer if any news on my Inster. They are still waiting apparently and I wasn't given any further info. I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up being March after all.
Thank you
Is there a more detailed specs description for the Signature model than this please? (I'd like to find out if it has an armrest or it's exclusive to Elegance)

Well they are definitely in the battery business. And other car parts. Their name crops up regularly when I'm looking for car parts or batteries.
Edit: Hyundai added them to their battery suppliers list about three years ago,
Excellent.
I see the high voltage battery pack has Valeo Kapac as the supplier.
Has anyone heard of them before in a battery pack context

Thanks, Drogheda is my local dealer but nothing when I last enquired. I wasn't sure if they were here or not.
I saw one in Hyundai Dundrum in Dublin if you want to call for a test drive…
Has anyone who has ordered had a test drive? Are there cars in Ireland for a test drive at the moment?
Cheers!
Nothing yet. Might text the dealer next week to see if the car has landed in Ireland (was supposed to arrive on 20/01/2025)
Has anyone had any updates on delivery timeframes?
Have a day off.
Quick look around the Cross variant last week in Brussels
Old phrase. Not everything needs to become a gender battle.
"Might well be the thinking mans small car."
You mean the thinking persons choice. Not just menthsat buy cars anymore. Plenty of Women do too.
You said cold. Not below freezing.
Agree
I agree with Mc Griver,thanks
Entry level versions make sense alright. But when some versions hit 30k plus it doesn't i hate this 'make people think it's an suv and charge more' approach. But they're businesses and will gladly market what will sell.
Hope it does well but as a budget EV not something approaching the price of an id3, megane or cupra born because it's not worth that.
Good point,it's attracion for me was the amazing interior space, and reasonable range.Have seen some comments also of expensive paint colour options. Don't thinkthe Cross is worth an extra £2,000 and perhaps a bit too military looking?
It looks like a clever package, sliding rear bench is a good idea for a small car, or any car for that matter. Take your pick, more back seat room or more boot space depending on what you need on any given day.
I hope it does well, genuinely well thought out little car. Might well be the thinking mans small car, R5 will be the style choice. Place for both.
Inster, Renault 5, and if the cupra raval and vw id2 get released this year means there should be great choice in the sub 30k small car segment, although I know the latter 3 will all be over that for top spec at least there's options.
Jez, I have never heard a car get marketed like this before.
Everyone break on Irish radio seems to have an Inster advert on for the last few months.
