The Hyundai INSTER sub-compact EV with 355km range will be officially released later this month. It was teased today and based on the CASPER ICE model available in some markets. Thoughts?
Just got off the call with the dealer in Mullingar. They can only see that it's in transit, Hyundai has given no other info to dealerships.
There is one in the showroom window in Wexford that I think is Buttermilk.
When I ordered my one they told me they would have a Demo car in Feb for test drives, but I haven't heard anything from them since.
Emailed my dealer this morning and he said it will be 2/3 weeks, no reason given for the delay. Has anybody seen one of the buttermilk/hounds tooth ones in a dealership? That would give some credence to the possibility that the dealers have taken all the stock from the first shipment as demos.
300km review - Korean spec but video in English.
The dealer can see it on their system once the car was manufactured & ready to ship.
how do you get one?
Did anyone get a VIN yet for the March shipment please?
I think that last line might sum things up! Re the colour, I wasn't fussy on it so was assigned a colour that would allow me to get the car as soon as possible as that spec and colour was "on the next ship". Anyway, hopefully my faith in Hyundai will be redeemed with no (further) delays with the Inster.
No. But there could be. Go for it. 🤣
Is there a small/compact EV thread, because that the segment I'll be most interested in. Most of our driving is urban so little interest in long distance cruisers or big SUVs.
Grande Panda? Looks interesting.
some more competition
Has anyone got an Inster delivered to them yet?
If I understood the chatter regarding Kona EVs when they came out originally in 2019 correctly.
Each dealer back then got an allocation of x amount of cars.
If that's still in play then the April guy has simply probably sold the cars allocated to him as far as April.
Whereas the February dealer hasn't sold as many.
Remember that February could be the 28th and April could be the 1st meaning as little as 4.5 weeks between them.
We ordered the Signature and I'll certainly try our Ioniq 5 V2L adaptor with it. I don't rely on it, but I expect it to work…
My local dealer is telling me they will have it by end of Feb. Is that possible? Reached out to another one and they are saying April.
I haven't placed order yet but I'm bit cautious as I need the car ASAP and can't really wait another 2-3 months.
not sure why they don’t have 3 levels here and let people pay more if they want but they might feel there isn’t a market for a higher priced Inster, it could be that certain packs add too much VRT etc
The Elegance 49kW has a heat pump, but you're right about the digital key and V2L which you can get in the tech pack in the UK, but not here.
Not having the option for 360 camera, blind spot warnings/monitor cameras, or sunroof - in addition to the digital key and V2L you mentioned, is a bit of a bummer. As is the light interior only being available with the buttercream yellow exterior.
Ref for hear pump/battery heater: https://www.hyundai.ie/new-inster/specs.html (under Convenience)
I'm hoping charge port V2L will be supported if I purchase the adapter down the line. This was the case with the Ioniq 5, where even lower trims without V2L adapter included just needed a purchase of the adapter. Maybe even a retrofit of the interior V2L socket will be possible... But I won't hold my breath on that in particular!
In order to cut the price on them it would appear Irish cars will have a little less spec than the UK. Heat pump, digital key and V2L don’t seem to be a thing here which is a shame. I was working off the usual places I would research for spec sheets but without any comms from the importer in Ireland yet, I was working in the dark a little.
My dealer confirmed yesterday what another dealer had hinted to me back on the 17th January, that there is a stop-sale on the Insters that have arrived in the country in the last couple of weeks (so no deliveries or test drives). Specific details I got yesterday was that there's an electric motor bracket that needs to be replaced on them, these are being flown over at present, and they are planning to start rolling them out then at the end of the first week in February.
They mentioned that there's (if I recall correctly) 150 of them in the country at present.
I think mine has been in the country since last week, or even the end of the week before, and has chassis number assigned - my dealer had only mentioned something about the car being in customs to me last week (23rd) but I've seen an Inster elsewhere in a showroom already in Mooney's Long Mile Road.
Nobby, great video, I ordered a 49kwh Inster a few weeks back I saw it at the NEVO show though it looked very well kitted out and not cheap at all especially compared to the Spring. you said it has V2L the Garage I ordered from wasn't sure that it had , did the car in your video actually have the outlet or the adapter?
Be interested in seeing your take on the Panda too, it look pretty cool.
Yes. Spring is a good buy if you go for the really base model but the higher spec is just too close to this price wise and this doesn’t feel as budget.
Good sign of a maturing market.
If it was your money would you be more likely to buy the Inster over the Spring?
To me the Inster looks the better buy.
off to Turin in the morning to drive the new Panda. This will be the year of the small EV.
I would the fact that you never really specified a particular colour meant the people who had took priority and they were just waiting for one in a colour that no wanted for you but it never happened as it was so popular. I could of course be wrong too though. Maybe you were just dealing with a crap Hyundai dealer.
I hope this starts a trend of smaller EVs because the current trend is making car parks increasingly squeezy.
Cool car!
Ordered June 2022, cancelled and got deposit refunded in April 2023. Maybe it was Covid impacted, but there were shipments of Ioniq5s being delivered (and one of my mates ordered in Nov 2022 and took delivery in Jan/Feb 2023). The spec I ordered in the colour they had me down for (I didn't care what colour I got) either wasn't being shipped or was being assigned elsewhere. But they strung me along, it was always 'on the next ship' even though they didn't have a clue where it was.
