For work a Logitech MX Keys Mini is personal choice, prefer the low profile keys and short press for key activation, I type a lot in work. Also handy for bringing in and out of work being TKL.

For gaming I currently have a mechanical keyboard with Hyper X red switches, the Hyper X Origins full size. Got it during a 25% off sale so at that price I think its a decent keyboard. Might change it up for a low profile TKL mechanical next. Personally don't need a number pad, no real use for one so I'd rather have more desk space

Well I finally broke, bought a 9800X3D there from Paradigit for €653.

€50 more than I'd like to have paid but have a bunch of parts here waiting about a good few months on the new CPU with warranty ticking down so decided to buy now. SSD and RAM are 6 months old now and never been out of the box!

Anyone know where one can get 9800x3d ? Seems unobtanium at the moment

Is this paradigit site mentioned above trustable?

Paradigit used to be Komplett, they are a legit company.

Oh wow there’s a name i haven’t heard in over 20 years! Thanks

Used Komplett loads of time before they became Paradigit, have used Paradigit twice now, onec for a laptop a few years ago and now for a 9800X3D which arrived via An Post yesterday.

Have all the parts needed now, first time I've done a complete rebuild like this since about 2018. Only things carrying over are the GPU, a 3080, and some SSDs

Temps for the 9800X3D at stock were awful, downloading games on Steam the CPU was getting up to 60C +. Changed PBO to a negative curve with an offset of 40 and increased the clock by 200Mhz amd temps are about 35C idle and 55C is the highest temp I've seen so far with load.

Bit crazy stock voltage is set so aggressively. Major difference in games compared to my old 9700K. GPU temps are about 10C cooler than my last case as well. Delighted with the upgrade so far

Forgot to mention the MB bios didn't support the CPU out of the box despite saying 9xxx series support on the box. It had Q Flash though so could just flash it with the latest bios file on a USB, flashed with no issues in about 5 minutes of starting the process. Such a good addition, having to get another CPU to do it would have been painful.

Motherboard doesnt support Sata M2 drives either, only PCIE and NVME, had an old 1tb one I was hoping to use but I'll have to put that in the old PC when selling it now, picked up a crucial 1tb gen 4 on amazon today to replace it, 5000Mbs per second and 1tb for £61, thought that was a good deal

I guess it's because the 9800X3D came out weeks later.

Yes they would have meant 9000 series non X3D varient.

I probably posted about this problem years ago somewhere on this forum, but my computer was randomly going blank and the fans would spin up full speed.

I tried everything over the years, except one thing…

A couple of days ago I moved the main atx cable around the back of the motherboard a few centimetres to the side. My assumption is that the cable was running right behind the CPU socket and heating it up or jolting or shorting it out or something.

I'm just posting this here because maybe it'll help someone else in the future really, but does that make sense to youses?

I think it would make more sense if the 24 pin connector is loose going into the motherboard and moving it a bit put it at an angle that the pins made contact.

If you haven't already id reseat the 24 pin in the motherboard

Some times these issues are so random. VGA error light was on on my motherboard earlier but the gpu was working.

Quick Google later, saw a post on reddit that said if you turn on PC and then the monitor the red error light for VGA comes on, if you turn on monitor first then the PC it doesnt. That worked and it doesnt come on turning the monitor first🤷‍♂️

I'd pushed and disconnected and reconnected every connector on the thing multiple times before this, it was always the first thing anyone ever said (and first thing i thought to do on my own too)

im so hyped for (monster hunter) wilds now, my pc isn't amazing spec but the steam deck was just as close to "literally unplayable" you can get without being literal during the first test.

in stock on Amazon, sold by Amazon, get it while you can

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,967 ✭✭✭✭K.O.Kiki

Showing as 591.45eur for me, which should be correct price (US MSRP: $479 + 23% = $589.17)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,615 ✭✭✭Revoker88

Well, I shoulda waited two weeks. That's a nice price.

Was genuinely worried about the other parts warranties ticking down though

bagged the 9800x3d no i just need to try bag the rtx 5080 to complete my build. any tips on getting my hands on one?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,203 ✭✭✭Squaredude

I'll be trying my luck with caseking and possibly scan.co.uk since they now seem to be accepting orders from Ireland again

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,534 ✭✭✭xtal191

I'm guessing they'll be near impossible to get, I'll try for the 5080 but if the 4080 Super drops a good bit in price I'll get that instead

New SSD arrived, a nice new 1tb of storage😁

Fixed up a few cable runs as well, not 100 neat but neat enough. H7 fantastic to build in have to say. Manged a higher GPU overclock at about 8-10C cooler than previous case as well. 9800X3D is at 5.3Ghz all core and the highest temp I've seen during gaming is about 65C, have fan profiles quite low aswell so it's quiet enough so have headroom to up the speed a bit if needed

Got my new bits yesterday, have to play around with the 9800X3D to see what my one can do. Have ram problems though, first time in my PC building life I've specifically bought ram from the mobo QVL list and the XMP profile won't boot🤦

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 537 ✭✭✭Coyler

Stating the absolute complete obvious but don't forget to clear the BIOS if changing RAM sticks. Can get away with it but often not. Also AM5 has this memory training that can really throw you off. Can take some time. Can be disable in the BIOS once it boots but I've seen memory training take a good 5 minutes.

Failing that try reseating your CPU and don't over tighten your cooler and then boot on each stick do memtest on either. Sorry if I'm teaching Grandma how to suck eggs.

Brand new mobo too so not an upgrade but no appreciate any info! I used to be quite active in this area but as I've got older the need to upgrade, tweak and find out everything about everything has waned a lot 😊 Nothing is ever straightforward in this game. Have had no end of issues setting up a dual windows 10/11 boot too but finally got that sorted.

EDIT: Turns out its probably cos the XMP speed is too high. Its a 7200mhz kit, not something I even considered as possible issue to be honest, it was the only kit I could find that had been tested with the mobo. Its running at 4800mhz stock. I'll have to manually tweak it so

Try these settings for 6400MHz. VDD: 1.55volts VDDQ: 1.45volts. Rest of voltages are correct in image.

The termination settings leave all stock the MB will pick them. So the proc and rtt's. in the two bottom right had sections.

If you want to boot quickly then leave power down mode on as well as Memory context restore.

Really happy with the temps for the 9800X3D. Not sure if its the phantom spirit cooler or just the cpu runs cool but all fans, including the dual cpu cooler fans, are running on a custom profile and don't go over 50% yet so it's so quiet, which is exactly what I want

The H7 case has to be helping too, it's more mesh that solid metal, surprisingly sturdy though

That's about as hot as I've seen it get at full load loading shaders for hogwarts legacy
