Power gone in oranmore, first time it's ever happened to me

Had a normal nights sleep here in Sligo town, when I woke through the night I could hear wind howling but "off in the distance". First gust of wind that rattled the air vents that I heard knocked off the power at 540am.

Getting up to Daragh levels of gusts as I type this. Glad I bought camping supplies just as Daragh died down so I can make coffee, these storms will become more common.

Jesus I hope it's not as bad as you think it is.

Still very windy here in Clare. Up most of the night with it. Quick glance outside with torch and can't see slates on the ground. Still have power which is surprising, as I'm out of town. Other side of the village is out.

More importantly, my wife didn't go into labor in the middle of it, which was a major worry yesterday.

I'm looking forward to going back to highlight the fools who commented yesterday to say there would be little damage, and that we were making a mountain out of a molehill.

I genuinely feel sorry for the millions out there who will no doubt have suffered severe property damage.

Lol, I thought the exact same thing, sounds like there's large planes coming in or out, but it's a constant noise.

Mullingar and the house shook for the first time and starting to hear sounds from the roof. Been up since 6am only but that was the worst gust since then.

Here in Kinnegad still with power..The constant sustained monotonous sound/ roar of the wind is unusual. Thank god no wheelie bins out in estate, as bin company emailed last night. Daylight will bring a bigger picture of the damage from the storm.

All you folks stressing about the Solar Panels in this wind has my mind made up about them. Think I'll hold off for another half decade. Chances are planning probably wouldn't allow the number of panels I'd want on my long South and street facing side of the roof of this Victorian End of Terrace. However even if they did allow it, even I can admit that they probably wouldn't look the best on this age and style of building (I think conventional panels look Fab on more modern houses though). Now add to that the concern about storms taking them off. Nah, think I'll save a bit longer till I can afford to redo the old decaying Bitumen non breathable roof membrane/felt and slates which will likely need a refresh by the 2030's anyway…..and get Slate effect Solar roof tiles installed at the same time. Nothing for the wind to grab onto with those. (Well no more than a normal roof slate).

Nothing too mental in Bray just off the Seafront. I'd have slept through this only for the fact that someone entered the front yard of our Flat nextdoor about 4:30am and didn't relatch the wooden gate so it started banging in the wind. Its outside my bedroom window and woke me and I had to get dressed and hop over the wall to relatch it to stop the incessant banging. Very windy but nothing mental when I went outside. Then again maybe the streetscape is sheltering the SE facing side yards somewhat. The Double Glazing, 2 foot thick Victorian Walls and having an attic conversion bedroom above me further insulating me from Roof sounds might also be contributing to me not thinking its too mad. As such, I'm not going to argue with anyone else in Bray who might ask me if I'm off my rocker because its the worst winds they've ever heard in Bray. It might just be a case of 'They don't build them like they used to!" LOL

I woke just after 2 and it was the worst I've ever heard in Thurles.

Not as bad now but still very strong winds.

Lucky to still have power etc ..

Feel terrible for the homeless and animals outside in this storm.
