ESB wires are under tension putting a bigger load on the pole while telephone wires just hang. Also if your ESB line makes contact with ground it will short while as long as the wire does not break the Telephone ones will keep working.

Not an excuse for Eir being slow to replace the poles but the condition of the pole is not as vital

A similar scene where I do a lot of walking, albeit over a much bigger area. They probably won't have it all cleared for several months yet.

Yeah that's a fair point re the different loads. All the same the Eir poles snapped like matchsticks and they are still not replaced. Many are just lying there splintered. They look pure rotten.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

I recently just got my power back on. ESB had disconnected the house when they were replacing the power lines but didn't put the house back on. The power company is refusing to credit me back the 4 months standing charges saying it is a natural disaster! There must be no power company in the world that would charge you for not having any connection. They say I may be able to claim against ESB, but I would imagine that ESB will say that they do not deal with billing or refunds. Anyone else managed to get any money back from any of them?

A small claims court might sort that out worst case scenario. Only costs €25.
