Regret coming on to this thread! Was keeping the head in the sand about it but it all, but we could be in for serious issues in a very exposed west galway house.

Losing electricity for a couple of days might be the better end if things

I fly a lot with work, didn't really notice my ears till people commented about it. It's like I'm flying here! Pulled out my Kestrel weather meter I have for shooting, pressure dropping like I've never seen before.

First they came for the socialists...

153 kmh is 95 mph. Just 1 mph under Cat 2. 188 is 116 mph, which would be a gust in the cat 3 range (111mph+).

From looking at the Aran Islands webcam things are looking bad there already! I have relatives out there so hopefully they'll be safe. No strong gusts in Galway City yet though.

I'll have my crossbreed mongrel over a walking health disaster pedigree any day. She's a **** diamond lying here on the sofa like a typical derpy lurcher, legs all over the place.

Do you normally have the option of WFH? If not, I'd not be making any effort to WfH tomorrow.

Seperately to that, if power is out it's likely a lot of mobile phone coverage will be out or worse again saturated if not and power is out to houses.

Either way there's plenty things you can tell your boss you were doing that were more important than work.

Haven’t heard wind like this ever in Waterford City. It’s like a Jet Plane is passing over but never leaves. Not easy to get to sleep in.

Eerily calm in North Kildare. Raining but calm. You can definitely feel the pressure dropping.

What’s Galway city like at the moment?

I live in an apartment block (moving into my new house in a week), but I've parked my car outside rather than the underground. If the power goes, the gates can't open, so you can't remove your car. Id rather take the chance of being able to move my car tomorrow, than power being gone with an unknown repair date!

On an exposed part of the coast near Kinsale. This is the worst wind I remember. Though perhaps Ophelia was this bad? The house is creaking and it’s not even 12am. Can’t imagine power will last for that much longer.

near enfield meath wet with light winds , feels like the calm before. I sincerely hope it is not as bad in the west as it looks on charts.

Constructed an OSB board wall today across my open garage front. Really hope it holds. 4 boards screwed into the top of the garage and going above it by around 15/20cm. Then screwed in 9 reinforced timber across the inside and outside. I then propped up behind the boards all of my moving boxes in a row. Whilst they're not heavy, I've created a long ridge of them to stop the boards pushing back too. This is what I'm so anxious about. If I knew with certainty it would 100% be ok, I'd probably lean into the storm more from a "excited" pov. But I suffer with GAD and panic attacks so this is just keeping me on edge.

At the end of the day, I can only do what I've done. If it withstands it, great. If not, not much more I could've done. My kids are with their mam tonight so are nice and safe and that's the main thing.

Very windy here in east Sligo and has been raining for a couple of hours. It had turned to wet snow when I was heading to bed around 11. I bed listening to the wind outside. Hope everything is secured in the garden, OH kept telling me everything was 'grand' but humoured me by moving stacked garden chairs into a sheltered corner. I hope he's right, we'll see.

I'm shocked at some of the wind speeds predicted in some locations, stay safe everyone

Picking up here in Clonmel, I would say it’s pretty bad now, scary to think worse is to come.

Looking at the models again and find it hard to fathom the kind of gusts coastal Kerry, Clare and Galway will experience later.

Iv a full pitty but she was a really sick runty puppy so she looks like a lanky Jack Russel with a slightly fat head. I just kicked her out for a wee in the rain before it gets too mad. She was not happy..

Windy enough here in North Mayo, there's a large SW facing window that I'm worried about and it's flexing a bit already 🙈

The wind speeds on the charts are absolutely mind boggling. If they materialse at those levels, this storm will be talked about for the next Centuary too. Oiche Na Gaoithe Moire II. I have enjoyed seeing the indepth discussions of Storm Eowyn, reminds me of the days fado when I joined the weather forum first in '06.

Going to try and get to sleep before it hits proper.

Weather here at 23.42pm ,South Sligo, mixed rain, sleet and snow. Winds picking up gently. Temperature unknown as my Weather Station bit the dust late last year. Sigh… typical! :)
