I wish folk who commented on their situation provided their location too. Makes for far less guessing.

Stay safe everyone - might stay up for this one

Oscillating between wild winds and calmer winds here in Athenry. Very wet. Everything charged. Can see a massive crane on a building site not too far and gonna assume it's hardy to withstand the predicted sustained winds!

Stay safe everyone.. not sure I'm gonna sleep..

Southeasterly wind presently. Not too strong but I can certainly hear it gusting. It's when the wind starts to turn in maybe two hours, then all chaos brwaks loose. I hope it doesn't. I'll be glad when it's over with minimal damage or hurt.

Galway city seems quite calm - tempted to go out for a stroll but will resist. A bit of a while yet before things kick off here...

That's the fronts passing through. Should calm down a bit before the main show makes a play for you.

Thank feck for storm Darragh, the amount of trees it took down and even in the last few days there have been chainsaws going nonstop taking down dodgy trees.

Anyone have eyes on the 'storm chasing' planes that are supposed to be tracking this on flight radar? Or will they be in the air later?

Ryanair plane landing from Gran Canaria into cork just flew over head. Would hate to be on that

Two new tower cranes were erected on the crown square site in Mervue this week. I really hope they are still erect this time tomorrow and that the forecast is wrong for Galway. I'd rather listen to people moaning about how it should never have been a red warning for their few square acres than have to deal with some of the potential aftermath of this one.

Stay safe everyone or words to that effect.

Ryanair from Gran Canaria on approach to Cork, wind was 190° 27kts gusting to 43kts and within 2 minutes it switched to 220° 30kts gusting 50kts.

Aircraft gone around, unlikely it'll be landing in Cork tonight.

Just got a huge gust in Cork City there

The rain and wind has completely subsided here now outside Westport.

Looking at the laurel bushes outside the back window and not a stir.

Think its time to go to bed and get a couple hours before the mayhem.

Which, as I type has picked up drastically.

Missed approach... the first of many around the country over the next 24 hours.

Flew down to Bilbao today so it can take off tomorrow and go into the storm. Weather at Shannon would be out of limits for the aircraft

Was the "mongrel" comment not a tongue-in-cheek reference to all the talk of cavapoos and cavichons and whatnot? All of which are - sorry - essentially designer mongrels. Anyway, my dog is under here:

For anyone with dopey neighbours who left bins etc. out, I'd be putting a very pointed message into the neighbourhood WhatsApp (if there is one, obvs) asking people to please make sure they've secured everything, particularly [insert specific item neighbour in question has left outside]...
