I would refrain from using the word downgrade this could be interpreted the wrong way. In fact it's an upgrade, latest Harmonie show +130kmph in more areas

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 333 ✭✭ascophyllum

I see no downgrades and 170-190kmph gusts for my location. I don't see how structures will take that. It's almost evacuation territory

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,547 ✭✭✭munsterlegend

Yes it's all in my backyard stuff. A very powerful and dangerous storm. Galway area looks crazy at the moment.

Was checking the roof yesterday and noticed my neighbour (the other house in a semi d) is missing a few tiles on the south facing side. (Can see right into their attic)

We're in Clare so I'm expecting the wind to wreak havoc with the weak spot with way more flying off tomorrow morning. Anything they can do at short notice to block the hole? Guessing no roofer to be found tomorrow and its a 2 story so access is very difficult.

Was just coming on to say the same. I'm NW (not on the coast but due to get big wind speeds) and now seriously considering a cross country drive to get out of here.

Mod Note: Quite a number of OT and sensational and uncivil posts removed this morning.

Just to repeat the mod note in the OP.

This is expected to become a busy thread. For the interest and benefit to all posters please stay on topic. Off topic posts cant be moved and will need to be deleted. Please use appropriate threads eg. Met Eireann, winter discussion ect. Please adhere to the forum charter especially remaining civil and friendly . A no nonsense approach will need to be taken to keep the thread in shape. Posters may post in other threads but this is the only main event thread.

    Thanks.

Also expecting every garden fence in the estate to collapse. They're all 20 years old now and the wood supports were concreted in, but that wood has since rotted underground. And Friday is bin day. There'll be debris everywhere.

    Not looking forward to this

Insane how rte and the non tabloid media are getting away with the lack of information regarding this storm. People are really not clued up on the level of wind expected and no wonder. A row in the dail getting twice as much exposure is typical of this country. You would never think that possibly the biggest storm of this century so far is less than 24h away! Galway Beo and the likes also to blame..

What if your planning permission specifically mentions them as having to be retained?

I moved into a top floor apartment in Dublin with terrible windows a few days ago. Completely exposed to the south. I hope the windows don’t blow in 😳

Thank you for explaining that, I appreciate it . All I can say is I just hope everyone stays as safe as they possibly can, no matter what County they're in .

    Heavy rain here this morning.

Raining in Clare all night. Saturated ground will make trees more likely to fall

TAF"s showing gusts of 80kts at Shannon (don't think I've ever seen that) for tomorrow. 75kts for Knock. Strange to even see this so far out.

Woke this morning in east Waterford to wind, rain, thunder, lightning and hail! All before tomorrow. Yikes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,386 ✭✭✭BrentMused

Yeah, exactly the same situation here.

Ironically, neighbour and I had arranged a couple of weeks ago for someone to come out and have a look at our shared fence, as it's starting to badly sag and is probably a good storm away from coming down completely, and the earliest we could get him was tomorrow.

I suspect it'll be in an altogether different state come Friday evening! 🙈

Didn’t expect it to rain here in cork city last night. I know it seems to have shifted north so cork may not be as bad as predicted, which given what was/is predicted isn’t much of a comfort. I’m just thinking of large trees in my area that might have branches off tonight. And for some stupid reason a lot of ESB wires go through tree limbs of very near up here.

Lets hope the power stays on at the weather stations around the country for this one.. I still feel aggrieved for the power going out at Sherkin for Ophelia

If they're insurance covers it get them to call them.

After Darragh we lost some tiles, and our insurance sent someone out the next day. Doesn't affect NCB either

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,634 ✭✭✭An Ri rua

Yes, I notice it before Darragh. The starlings (I have a flock of 40+ klingons every morning are very aware and very jittery. Keen to feed. Noticed cats extremely jumpy since yesterday. Worse today. Anyone with horses would also see it straight away.

The normal winter weather hoop-merchants will melt away over the next 18 hours.

There is an orange warning for petty bickering on this thread. Stay tuned, as this could upgrade to red very soon.

What are they doing in the Hyacinth House?

Posts like this has me wondering if the person making the post has actually watched or listened to any of the RTE bulletins, or is just that the bulletins haven't been hysterical enough.
