MM appointment is being delayed because several members of the Dail are behaving like spoilt children, once he gets that done, govt appointed and briefed they will make a call. This evening is plenty of time.

Source for the nationwide red ? Haven't seen that mentioned anywhere. Met have mentioned west and north west coasts for potential red.

Government are always kept briefed by the national emergency group which contains stakeholders from the various departments and emergency services

They are telling Local Authorites that this storm will be "Historic" " Memorable".

Luckily high tides on the western seaboard are around 1am and 1pm on Friday so avoiding the very worst of the wind. There will still be a serious storm surge but with low tide around the peaks of the winds it will help reduce potential coastal flooding.

I can see a scenario where conditions are not going to be safe for travel for quite a long time after the red alert winds have come and gone. People in some parts of the west, if not more widely, are going to be dealing with widespread disruptions and power outages, what if there is a lot of debris on roads taking days to clear? It will be a bigger logistical challenge than just calling an "all clear, winds are below 110 now" situation, if this guidance is accurate (big if) … so I hope messaging will consider that point, some parts of west-central Ireland could be facing a lot more recovery time than in some past significant events.

That doesn't mean they dont need to get the timing right. I forget the storm a few years back that ended up coming in earlier than expected and they ended upgrading the warnings only a hour before. They want to avoid that at all costs. You could say why not go red form 2am to 5pm like the Orange warning, but that is how credibility is lost as people sit and look out the window in a red warning hours after it has died down. And when credibility is lost an increasing number of people will ignore the red warning putting themselves and others at risk. For that reason, waiting a few hours to make a final call two days out is no harm

Well they are talking about the impact it has on the warnings being decided...

    Those charts are astonishing

Depends, are you trying to set new altitude records? 😏

I'm kinda torn with this one. Those charts being posted here are something else alright, but part of me suspects that there'll be some last-minute downgrade.

Good luck trying to figure me out. I haven't managed that myself yet!

There will almost certainly be a red warning for Dublin for a short period of time on Fri morning. I think it will coincide with the morning rush meaning schools will close, I'm seeing a 0500-1000 timeframe.

Harmonie brings it south and south coast bears the brunt. Gfs keeps it midlands and limerick galway and midlands have the worst winds. I asked MT which direction he thought and he replied ICON seems to be the mean of all models at the moment but that could change tomorrow.

I would imagine a storm of this intensity will require the most up to date data available before extending any more warnings. The situation is still fluid. It was mentioned that it wont impact high tides but it might as predicted surges are as high as I have ever seen them in the hours after high tide.

At the moment its a wind event maybe with some wave over topping in some western parts.

So you're saying we can all park our cars in the Salthill car park?

You have to take into account where the plane is flying prior to your flight.

Originally I'm flying on Friday from Faro to Dublin in the evening but based on what is to occur I have, off my own bat booked a flight for tomorrow thursday back into Dublin. I believe my Friday plane will be so out of place for my flight it will be cancelled and I would be stuck for a couple more days. Which honestly isn't a bad thing but I want to make sure family are strapped in.

the UK met office have issued an amber warning for NI and northern UK (north Manchester to above Glasgow).
That leads be to think the midlands and north will possibly go to red level in these areas by tomorrow unless they are being over cautious. It’s just an opinion, not fact.

I’m flying in from the States via London tomorrow, due in Dublin lunchtime tomorrow, avoiding this by the hair of my skinny skin skin, hopefully?

Problem is there are already weather delays this side of the pond meaning I might not arrive into London until early Friday morning

That would scupper getting home before Saturday
