TBH I have never seen such consensus across every single model, long and short range now, for such destructive winds hitting Ireland early friday morning. So unfortunately there will be an economic and possibly a human price to pay for this storm. The forecast going on model output is staggeringly high winds, there are no two ways about it. What window remains for some sort of moderation I wonder? Met.ie will no doubt ring the alarm later today or very first thing tomorrow. THey have probably gone across their own guidelines already issuing a red wind warning 48 hours out for the 4 counties concerned. They have to ensure they are as accurate and sensible as possible. They may also have a concern that a red wind warning as they have been issued before is not going to raise the alarm enough and may be preparing some other sort of a communication to go along with it….well some models are showing 200kph gusts into western counties. So that is not something people would necessarily comprehend even under a red warning until they actually experience it. That is rip the roof off half the properties in town stuff should it come off.

Wonder will the weather station survive this one. Survived Darragh but just about.

Anyways time to get Chocolate and Drink. That's all I need and charge the phone and look at the broken Shannon Radar which is more delicate than my weather station.

Settlements on Aran Islands are on the North and east side of the Islands. Would be a lot worse in Lahinch than Kilronan I'd say

Met eireann are probably just fine tuning warnings as regards different timings, all though this storm is moving through pretty quick. This will probably go National Red IMO as the timings for the storm to hit couldn't be worse coinciding with school runs and work commutes.

As MT pointed out, even if Warning times pass, it doesn't mean you can travel safely. Remember its still dark from 5pm and trees etc will be across roads and more difficult to see.

Tides seem to be at the ideal times to avoid the worst case. High tides Friday at 00:18 and 12:51

Have to say, expect disruption or diversion. Your timing of lunchtime won't be enough I think. Will still be very windy Dublin area.

Flying from cork at 13:00 to Holland. How likely is a cancellation and when would it be announced? Do airlines pay any attention to red warnings?

This storm will be so violent it will warp space time over Lietrim, Mayo and Sligo, causing the 3 counties to jump 36 hours into the future and time starts running backwards

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,419 ✭✭✭Cork2021

my area in North Cork is showing gusts over 130kph so definitely red! Darragh was an orange warning and did damage to my roof so I’m on high alert!

Almost nationwide Red warning as of 15:10. People had better take this seriously.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 728 ✭✭✭Pops_20

No they don't. They just send the planes up and hope for the best.

The red warning will be expired by 10:00 as it currently stands, but the airport will be monitoring conditions throughout the morning regardless. Although looking at the models, the wind speed will die down quickly after the main event so you might be OK.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,560 ✭✭✭✭dsmythy

They seem to be putting extra effort into specific timing for worst winds per area. Each red is issued within a certain time frame of when that timing is. Red could slowly spread over the map over the day as they go through this area by area. Where they don't feel confident enough they could wait until tomorrow for more development.

Probably keep an eye on your airline app from early Friday morning. There will be a lot of disruption with flights.

You might be okay though considering the time. Depends how much delays there is Friday morning.

Dublin being in red will mean there will be mass hysteria and panic buying from now on out. Cue all the red headers using the most sensational language possible.
