Its the two L25 stops by the N11 junction of Stillorgan Park that have RTPI poles in place. Likely to facilitate people interchanging with the L25 from an N11 bus. None of the other recently upgraded stops along Stillorgan Park seems to have provision for an RTPI pole.

    The tweet in question:

Sidenote, didn't realise they're now terminating the 11b by Donnybrook Garage rather than Suffolk Road. Likely to more easily faciliate driver changeovers?

Probably more to do with a suitable location to wait.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,527 ✭✭✭p_haugh

Looking at the timetable on bustimes, it looks like it'll only have a 4 minute scheduled layover at Donnybrook anyways so not much of a layover will be required. Basically gives it enough time to turn around and set the scrolls for the return trip.

The 11b is now mentioned on the Dublin Bus website with a timetable.

    https://www.dublinbus.ie/bus-connects/spine-e

    https://www.dublinbus.ie/getmedia/83df0f7e-c1e9-4484-871e-4cb86080a356/Route-11b.pdf

Of course it’s still not on the TFI page.

I got on the 46a on the Northside end this morning, full as usual and no signage anywhere or leaflets outlining the changes to be found on the bus. A lot of people won’t have a clue what’s coming.

I thought there were more of them than that ! slim pickings indeed and none at all on the evening rush towards the Phoenix park , nothing leaving Donnybrook after 15:07 eeek.

I've circulated on residents whatsapps and without fail its "what ? really ? they are getting rid of the 46a ? , your making a joke "

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,795 ✭✭✭✭LXFlyer

    The timetable isn’t news though?

All of the new route timetables have been on Bustimes.org since last week as I linked to in an earlier post - can I suggest that you use that if you want to see the full stop by stop timetables?

It’s far superior to the info on either the DB or TFI sites.

The peak-time 19 extension to Merrion Square is mentioned now too, but the timetable hasn't been updated to reflect that yet.

Why call it 11B and not 11A?

I presume it's going to turn at the junction beside Donnybrook Church. Tricky, depending on car volume and light sequencing.

It was originally slated to turn around at Sussex Road, but now it's Donnybrook Road. Would it not have been easier to turn at Belfield flyover, near the home of the original 11B?

To reiterate this - for the most up to date and indeed the only place to see full stop by stop timetables for every route bustimes.org is the most useful website and these pages are worth bookmarking.

No idea why they used the number but the 11b never served Belfield flyover - it served the other side of the campus via Ranelagh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,500 ✭✭✭StreetLight

Yes, I know, but B for Belfield, and all that! ;-)

To answer your question on the terminus - the running times wouldn’t be sufficient to allow it go beyond Donnybrook Church, and it apparently was a safer location to turn than Sussex Road.

Since the 11 and 11b is taking over the northern half of the 46a this Sunday, this reminds me of the old 10 and 10a routes back then (since 11 is the next number after 10). It also means that the old phrase "10 to the zoo" will officially come back but as "11 to the zoo".

with a bit of luck , by the time its peak season at the zoo , i'd like to hope the 11 will be gone by then for this part of the city

Everybody on the road, including me, doubts that we had enough running time for Sussex Rd. let alone into Donnybrook

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,795 ✭✭✭✭LXFlyer

Nothing new there - they’ve got the running times wrong for most phases so far - either too generous or too tight.

Let the fun and games begin!

The 11 is basically the "home" for 2007-2009 buses, that includes the AX's and EV's. The 11b, however, I think will operate on SG's given on the amount of SG's Donnybrook current have.

Having AX's on more busy routes would be a great benefit, not to have them on more seaside routes, to see them maxed out and make them go out of service faster. (7, 7A, 7B etc.)

I never saw an AX on the 7:00 service to Sandyford. Also, having a bus corridor on the Sandyford area, as mentioned above, would ease traffic on the Willowfield Avenue/Drummartin Road area, close where the S6 crosses near The Goat in Goatstown.

There needs to be significant improvement to traffic on what I've experienced when travelling on BusConnects routes lately, (EX. L25, S6, S4). Having to wait nearly 20 mins for the next bus, when 2 busses pass at Milltown Luas is ridiculous.

Having the 117xx or the 112xx series buses on the S4 from GAI, would in my opinion would increase frequency in the D14 region.

On the other hand, why do the early morning 44's (which are the 07:00 and 08:00 services) don't have any powerful buses that can climb hills in Enniskerry? The last time the 44 had EV's when operating to Enniskerry was probably the time when the 61 was still in operation. If there would be any sort of like this passenger limits on EV's, AX's or whatever, just make the frequency every 30-45 mins or so.

I think if there could be a Phase 6b. If there would be, I think the 44, L25, 74, and the 14 or possibly the 11 could all see revised timetables or additional departures in the 06:00-11:30 periods.

Would they not just go into the garage to turn?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,500 ✭✭✭StreetLight

That would make sense. Give the driver a chance to use the facilities there, if required.

A fairly strange report on this that feels like it was written months ago. No mention of a lot of changes and the persistent "NTA have not listened to us" from the Independent Republic of Wadelai is pretty odd too

Here's some pics as of this morning at 3 46a stops - Parnell St, OCS northbound(x2), OCS Southbound.

    1. No notices on the stops saying service will be withdrawn.
    2. Banner electronic information is saying "13 new services" but looks only like a Route 13 schedule changes and does not indicate anything of the massive upheaval about to hit. English and Irish
    3. No information provided about service withdrawal.
    4. OCS northbound says the 11 will be withdrawn. STOP1 - Copy.JPG STOP2 - Copy.JPG STOP3.JPG STOP4 - Copy.jpg

Absolutely ridiculous. The vast majority of the public who do not follow boards haven't a clue what's going on, piss poor communication as usual.

Can someone explain what the point is of the 11B that is starting? Why does it not run at peak hours?
