Be fun alright. Something they haven't done in years either would be a nice stip for Seth/Punk.

Jey as world champ would be great but you're right it's definitely not happening.

Was a good showing for Penta, despite Cole framing him from the outset as "the second best luchador" 😅 Delighted for Penta anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,043 ✭✭✭✭beakerjoe

The 2nd best luchador comment was so stupid. Immediately making him feel less than the "real star", who is not the world's best at his age.

That said, Penta isn't even the best in his family. Penta will suit WWE better than his brother though, as he is much more of a vibes guy than Fenix

A few in AEW near the end of there contracts could be watching how Penta is doing

It's a different WWE since Mr Hankey fucked off. No doubt Penta would be given a 'comedy' gimmick if he was still in charge

Mr Hankey. Thats the funniest thing I've read in years.

Its hard to say how AEW stars would be used.

Obviously Vince is gone so WWE is more appealing to new talent or talent that had a good relationship with HHH. That's a big plus.

Andrade recently returned and really isn't doing much. Feels like a geek.

Ethan Page appears happy there and is a real good fit for WWE. But it's NXT.

Dragon Lee hasn't been used well.

Id have higher hopes for Penta but I can see him being at the same level he was in AEW.

I expect Ricky Starks to jump and he'll be a good acid test as he's someone with a bigger ceiling than Penta and was pushed hard in AEW. Very interested how he turns out, esp since he's good Pals with Cody. A good push for him and AEW guys will look even more seriouslu at WWE.

But AEW is very chaotic at the moment, which can't be great for morale backstage.

Didn't realise Penta could speak English. Dunno if he's fluent but he was doing okay.

So is SNME just WWE's version of Battle of the Belts?

I know it's a midcard title, but when we're getting a guaranteed new champion, I think the title match should main event.

What are the odds that a lot of these guys declaring for the Rumble will be in the later numbers. Every year it seems we could be wating for more surprises only for the last 6 or 7 to be guys like Cena, Roman or Orton.

For anyone that watched live, what are Netflix showing when it goes black since there aren't meant to be commercials? Like this week's episode is showing as being only about 2.5 hours long.

Full Raw highlights: Jan. 13, 2025

For anyone else like me that doesn't have netflix!?

Also I posted the bleacherreport on 'Bluesky' last week, today I got a notification 'WWE Tiffany Stratton' followed me!

Ya right, went to check my followers not there and no account on the platform for her as well. So that bogus/bot account was quickly dealt with by the platform.

Delighted for Lyra getting the title. Irish talent is such a boost for WWE and hope they continue to cast their eyes on the amazing talent in this country.

Penta's debut started off a bit slow but man he really delivered. Gable was the perfect opponent for him. Sold like a mother, that destroyer spike sell was gorgeous. The promo was great, also didn't realise his level of English, however the crowd coming alive when he spoke Spanish was amazing, even if it won't work as well outside of San Jose. Agree that AEW stars will definitely be looking seeing the presentation of this guy.

I honestly think that generally people who have come from AEW to WWE have been treated and booked well for the most part. In fact there's probably more WWE guys that went to AEW and didn't come off looking great than there is the opposite.

The Rumble is stacked. Being a Balor fan is pain.

The Rumble is absolutely stacked, and with the 2 night Mania's now it's hard to tell what route they go with the winner, I do love with big main eventers already announced you know we are getting storyline builds for Mania at the Rumble, I love the side stories in the Rumble more than the winners some years.

Really don't know what is next (and hope away from each other) for Priest and Balor

A move to SD might be better for one of them

Andrade is the one I point too that's been booked poorly compared to how he probably perceived he'd be pushed.

They have tried with Jade but failed. She's really lost her aura in WWE compared to AEW. Feels like just another woman in the roster as opposed to a huge star.

Ethan Page and Pullman Jr have been used better but both are nothing special. One is a JAG and the other is an embarrassment to his Dad's legacy.

Cody has been used very well. A huge sort of WWEs hot period. Presented like every bit of the star he was in AEW and then some. Not losing any of his gimmick was key and I feel the injury really helped him inadvertently. A complete win for WWE in every way, esp optically. The first big jump was a true success.

Penta is a wait and see but I feel it can go either way. What's good for him is that he's fresh to the product as opposed to Andrade and is a fantastic, if a little flawed, inside the ring. Will he be just another Hispanic guy in a few weeks or will they make something of him. I hope the latter as I loved his LU stuff.

ALSO Balor is a jobber nothing more. TJD are done.

Balor has done nothing in his WWE run beyond NXT and a good Brock match. His aura is long gone. Just another guy.

I had a strange one with Netflix. Times are to the best of my recollection…

I went to look at Raw on Tuesday evening after work. I think it was down as 2hr 31 mins - so I assumed the ads were missing. I watched about 1hr 30 mins. One of the last things was Sami and Miz setting up a match for later that night.

On Wednesday, I went to watch the last hour, starting with the street fight. Netflix said that I had 25 mins or so left, making it a 2 hour program. The street fight was the last thing with credits at the end and there was no Sami v Miz match.

    Anybody else see this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,585 ✭✭✭SteM

I think the same thing happened here. 1 hour into it yesterday. Just checked and there is an hour left but I could have sworn it was showing as a 2.5 hour show yesterday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,547 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Just checked and yep. Showing as 2 hours. Last week's is showing as 2 hrs 25 even though I remember it was 3 hrs.

Looking online now, it seems they have edited the show, including censoring the swearing and the F I Solo chants from the crowd. Which seems to go against what being on netflix was supposed to be.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,148 ✭✭✭NITRO95

I am stunned that the company that pipes in chants and crowd reactions on their live shows would edit their archived shows. Who could have possibly expected this?

I watched it on demand on Tuesday and it was 2.5 hours and I got to see the Sami/Miz match (you missed nothing)

I must have got in before the edit went up.

I thought people would be happy at a lower run time for Raw

Yeah seems the edits happen in the transition from the live stream version to the on demand version.

    What exactly have they cut?

Pretty sure it was 2hrs 25 or so when I watched.

Also worth noting they apparently haven't been using 'fake' crowd sounds recently. I don't think they have in a while tbh.

No no no. The fake crowd noise.mp3 is still there. It's not hard to spot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 264 ✭✭onmebike

Apart from one subscription to the WWE Network, I've only had access to the 1 hour highlights shows, so I'm really enjoying the full shows. I thought the crowd was flat on the first night - full of VIPs and celebs - but was much better on the subsequent Smackdown and Raw.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,585 ✭✭✭SteM

My IPTV provider has the 2.5 hour version up but I don't think I have the willpower to watch that and the Netflix version to compare tbh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,043 ✭✭✭✭beakerjoe

Ah the crowds can still be vocal, but they 100 percent still use the piped in crowd sounds. The edits are not hard to spot.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 42,995 Mod ✭✭✭✭Lord TSC

As much as I hate the Mexican Vortex that sucks in every luchadores, that comment immediately sets up a very natural Penta vs Rey match though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,509 ✭✭✭ThePott

We could be talking about two different things.

WWE have in the past 'piped in sounds' and had 'crowd sweetening'.

The piped in sounds are literally effects of cheers or booes as appropriate. I don't believe they've done that in a while but open to correction, not sure I'd notice half the time. It used to be really obvious when Smackdown was taped/

The crowd sweetening is a base layer of crowd atmosphere so there's never really silence. It's not that loud or noticeable half the time. I'd heard on Wrestling Observer Radio and read on a few wrestling sites that at least from the Netflix debut, they haven't been using crowd sweetening.

I do think if WWE were tinkering with audio THAT much, they'd probably have not had some of the crowd reactions recently. Like Hogan booed to that extent or some of the pretty quiet reaction to certain superstars over the last while.

WWE certainly still use audio over their shows to add in boo's, cheers and chants. That's not to say crowds don't do those things, they do, but WWE still use it. It was certainly present at the Netflix Raw debut. Its very obvious to me to the point where the show sounds way too artificial.

I think WWE are not as quick to use the audio as they once were, but you still see recent shows where the crowd sit on their hands yet you hear ridiculous cheering.
