City getting criticised for not easing off. I was hoping they'd bring on Haaland and De Bruyne to ensure the score got to 10-0 thereby topping the 10-1 win against Huddersfield.

Their kids are alright. Mcatee looks promising and attracting interest. They won't want another Cole Palmer situation

Tamworth were well deserving of their Draw with Spurs, could have won it at the death.

Spurs not able to beat a team in 90 minutes, that are a skyscraper below them in positions is comical.

    Utterly comical.

ET and maybe even pens to come.

Tamworth had an unbelievable chance with the last kick of the game to win it,

Some of these Tamworth players have jobs to go to in the morning, some of the Spurs lads shouldn't.

Having no VAR I think rescued Man United with that offside decision against Martinelli. The linesman wasn't sure, but it can't be reversed. Maguire deliberately trying to play the ball should have meant he was then onside, having initially been offside.

I don’t understand how it’s not a completely obvious offside. Are they trying to say maguire deliberately played that back to the keeper? That’s an incredible reach

He was 3 yards off FFS. Get out of here with your rescued BS

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,426 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

No, Maguire deliberately played the ball, but made a complete hash of it. That shouldn't have rescued him and if VAR was in place, I think the decision would have been reversed.

We'll see what the panel make of it at half-time.

Exact same scenario Lovren deflected a ball to Kane who was miles offside a few seasons ago. Kane ran through and was awarded a penalty. No offside was called. We were told at the time it was correct interpretation. Today it’s being called the complete opposite. The law makers are an ass.

Why TF would you think I care what someone that works for Sky Sports thinks of it? I've been watching and playing football all my life. I know what offside is and Martinelli was offisde

I know it hasn't always been given but I think the offside decision for Maguire is how the rule should be applied.

Maguire wouldn't be stretching to get a touch on the ball if not to stop Martinelli getting in behind, he couldn't have known he was offside with any certainty.

It means Maguire deliberately and knowingly played the ball, it wasn't a deflection off him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,156 ✭✭✭✭8-10

If Maguire deliberately plays the ball, even if he's only doing it to prevent the ball getting to an offside player, he's then playing him on

Again, Lovren v Kane decided this clearly for everyone. He lunges to try and stop the ball getting through to Kane. If he doesn't touch it, Kane is offside. His touch plays him on

Was literally easier for Fernandes to stay up there and recover the ball

    Fernandes is a petulant child

    Absolute embarrassment as a captain.

Fernandes has an absolutely disgusting attitude

If Arsenal ever play this white shirt again. I imagine TV companies will ask them to rethink the shirt numbers.

    This too shall pass.

Fernandes rightly booked for dissent. He should have been booked the first time after throwing his boot on the ground. That wasn't a foul.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,885 ✭✭✭✭Osmosis Jones

I think the Lovren decision was wrong too, it's counter intuitive to expect players to not play the ball because they somehow know the player in behind is offside. The offside player just being there influences play by making the defender go for the ball.

The "deliberate play" part of the rule is more there to stop defenders from just passing directly to an offside striker and getting a free kick out imo.

That's a big loss for Arsenal, possibly for quite some time with Jesus going off. Sterling on in his place, not a great replacement.

It was the same story, last time I seen them wear this shirt.

Fernandes should have had a free on the edge of the box, dreadful refereeing.

Lovren decision was correct per the rules. You can't be offside if you receive the ball from an opponent.

The only question is was Maguire trying to make contact with the ball, was that his intention, or did it accidentally hit him while he was not intending to touch the ball - meaning he was either trying to get out of the way or didn't realise the ball was about to hit him - a complete accident.

If it's the latter, then yeah he's not offside as Maguire didn't know he had touched the ball until it happened as he had no intention of touching it

refs should stop telling players he is watching them before corners and give a free or a penalty once ball is played.

Micah Richards has got to be the worst "analyst" on TV
