MK Dons V AFC Wimbledon, a nice one where the TV cameras should definitely go, for the "atmosphere".

Good old Northampton Town, we can always be relied upon to fúck up in the FA Cup. To lose to Kettering makes it all the more Cobblers-y.

Oh well, give me an easy life and a peaceful death.

    Interesting point made here -

The FA agreed to scrap FA Cup replays because of “expanded European” demands on seven elite Premier League clubs who don’t enter the Cup until the third round anyway, have big squads and some will go on post-season tours or to the Fifa Club World Cup. Such a senseless, heartless decision highlighted this weekend with Non-League clubs like Weston-super-Mare, Hednesford Town, Guiseley, Southend United and others denied a replay, a chance of more revenue and potential memories for a lifetime. The Cup is a great competition, a historic institution that should be cherished and better protected. The game is about David as well as Goliath. #FACup

What is ignored is that as part of the arrangement the Premier League is upping it's contribution to the EFL by 33%.

Which could be spread much more evenly in the EFL, rather than a big payday just the few clubs who manage to draw with a big team in Round 3.

Thinking of making a thing of picking a random 3rd round game again as a late Christmas treat.

Ashley & Tyler Young could become the first father & son to play in the same FA Cup game in tonight's Everton-Peteborough tie: both on the bench and Tyler apparently a fringe player so probablky won't happen…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,290 ✭✭✭✭Osmosis Jones

Massive backlash from fans, media, and even Everton players after Peterborough never brought on Tyler to have his moment with his dad.

The complaints are an absolute joke imo, Peterborough were only 1-0 down until the 98th minute, they had every chance to win the game… and they're expected to bring on a kid who has played under 30 minutes of senior football (and hadn't even made the bench since October) just so Ashley Young can have a nice moment?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,883 ✭✭✭The Rooster

Young’s one word tweet ‘Gutted’ appeared on my twitter feed and in fairness most of the replies were supporting Ferguson’s decision, given the match situation (and 2 subs used at HT)

One reply was funny though, a joke along the lines of that it was ironic that a great father-son moment was ruined by someone who owes his entire career to who his father is 😂

HHow did that look incredibly easy?

I thought I had hit post earlier with my comment, I guess maybe not.

I was saying that was an excellent strike from TAA from outside the box, in off the post to make it 2-0. No keeper in the world would have saved that shot.

City getting criticised for not easing off. I was hoping they'd bring on Haaland and De Bruyne to ensure the score got to 10-0 thereby topping the 10-1 win against Huddersfield.

Tamworth were well deserving of their Draw with Spurs, could have won it at the death.

Spurs not able to beat a team in 90 minutes, that are a skyscraper below them in positions is comical.

    Utterly comical.

ET and maybe even pens to come.

Having no VAR I think rescued Man United with that offside decision against Martinelli. The linesman wasn't sure, but it can't be reversed. Maguire deliberately trying to play the ball should have meant he was then onside, having initially been offside.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,529 ✭✭✭Did you smash it

I don’t understand how it’s not a completely obvious offside. Are they trying to say maguire deliberately played that back to the keeper? That’s an incredible reach

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,577 ✭✭✭NITRO95

He was 3 yards off FFS. Get out of here with your rescued BS

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,512 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

No, Maguire deliberately played the ball, but made a complete hash of it. That shouldn't have rescued him and if VAR was in place, I think the decision would have been reversed.

We'll see what the panel make of it at half-time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,744 ✭✭✭eigrod

Exact same scenario Lovren deflected a ball to Kane who was miles offside a few seasons ago. Kane ran through and was awarded a penalty. No offside was called. We were told at the time it was correct interpretation. Today it’s being called the complete opposite. The law makers are an ass.

Why TF would you think I care what someone that works for Sky Sports thinks of it? I've been watching and playing football all my life. I know what offside is and Martinelli was offisde

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,290 ✭✭✭✭Osmosis Jones

I know it hasn't always been given but I think the offside decision for Maguire is how the rule should be applied.

Maguire wouldn't be stretching to get a touch on the ball if not to stop Martinelli getting in behind, he couldn't have known he was offside with any certainty.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,577 ✭✭✭NITRO95

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,512 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

It means Maguire deliberately and knowingly played the ball, it wasn't a deflection off him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,790 ✭✭✭✭8-10

If Maguire deliberately plays the ball, even if he's only doing it to prevent the ball getting to an offside player, he's then playing him on

Again, Lovren v Kane decided this clearly for everyone. He lunges to try and stop the ball getting through to Kane. If he doesn't touch it, Kane is offside. His touch plays him on

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,081 ✭✭✭✭klose

Was literally easier for Fernandes to stay up there and recover the ball
